Different states and regions have different standards and traditions. I probably wouldn’t shoot at a running deer with a rifle. But I didn’t grow up hunting that way. My favorite way to hunt deer is with dogs. Lots of people don’t like that. We all need to stay on the same team. God bless and much success brother.

We just haven’t had any good experiences with dog hunters. Most shoot deer 9 times to kill a deer with Buck shot all up and down the body while it’s moving or they just barely wound the deer. Then you have the idiots who shoot their own dogs if they don’t do what they are supposed to do. I respect every way because I know some do it right but most don’t do it kills the reputation. I’ll stick to my jeans and flannels 😂 Good luck to you though. I hope you get a big one!

Need to build a jumping target next for ultimate realistic practice.
Maybe set it up on a track like a roller coaster. Would be pretty sweet

My dada took me to a gravel pit when I was learning to hunt. We found an old tire with the rim still in so we put paper on the rim to see any hits. The tire was rolled down a steep bank and by the time it hit the bottom of the hill it was traveling fast and bounded like a deer. I would shoot away with a Marlin 336 and hit about 50% of my shots at the age of 12. You got to learn to trust your front sight because that bullet is faster than the deer by far.

    Thank you for this video.
I was hoping for more specifics, such as, HOW to lead the deer, where to try and hold, maybe how far ahead of the deer?
A little bit about sight picture, maybe.
Good idea on what to do for target practice though
Thank you guys for all you do for the tracking community

      Use a shotgun.

Shooting a moving target accurately on the first shot with a rifle takes practice. But it depends on so many factors that most don’t recommend it to average Joe. Most with a shotgun fail at it. But some knock it out of the park. But practice practice practice.

You miss every shot you don’t take, keep after it. Let it fuel the tank and get back out there for another opportunity. Best of luck to yiu

Shooting at a runnig deer is unethical.

If you are a skilled marksman it matters not whether the game animal is stationery or not. An unskilled marksman will find a way to miss a stationary target even at point blank range.
