Best captain United ever had and one of the most complete central midfielders of all time. Younger fans who didn't get to see him in his prime assume that his best qualities were his aggressive leadership skills and defensive contribution. But he could create, attack, defend, score, he had it all and was able to run games by himself. Manchester United have had many top quality midfielders since he left. But they've never really been able to replace what Roy Keane brought, and I'm not sure they ever will. Thank you for this amazing video, we don't have enough of Roy Keane on UA-cam!
@Harris Zaindi Keane not a great passer of the ball? He was an expert at on-the-ground forward through balls which could unlock defences in an instant for his team-mates, and he also played as the most advanced central midfielder when he first signed for the club, so your talk about "defensive box-to-box" and Gattuso are showcasing your own ignorance. He would usually play ahead of Ince and later Nicky Butt, and even when Scholes arrived he was still a fantastic attacking presence in his best years. You've listed a bunch of names of "more complete" midfielders including Edgar Davids. Davids himself called Roy Keane and Paul Scholes the best opponents he played against. Keane was definitely better than Davids and arguably Seedorf as well. It's quite obvious you don't know much about Roy Keane. He had a superb first touch, passing range and ability on the ball, so to call him technically limited is ridiculous.
So underrated it’s unreal. Legit that blistering counter attack on the break that united were known for was almost created by Keane back when he joined. He would win the ball deep and launch forward bringing his team with him up the pitch. He was an absolute tank of a player.
