  • Опубліковано 19 жов 2017
  • On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, Julian connected with Dame again to discuss how to “Get Paid To Be Yourself.” This time, we were happy to accompany the both of them to host a live conversation between the two at the Artist Collective in Los Angeles, CA. In a discussion that spanned well over an hour, Dame expressed his opinions, thoughts, and views on a variety of points ranging from entrepreneurship, independence, and ownership to the importance of health, wealth, and legacy.

Dame is a random stream of consciousness. He drops some powerful gems, but at other times he's contradictory. Overall he's still BRILLIANT.

His brilliance outweighs the natural aspect of contradiction. We all contradict ourselves at times. Sometimes you feel like a nut.....sometimes you dont. Its the human paradox.....

Wisdom is often situational. That's where it may seem contradictory.

I’m very impressed with Damon Dash in this interview. The things he said about family and getting old. He was very introspective I am now a fan of his again and I’m rooting for his success.

Brother Dame Dash! Revisiting this 5 years later and I’m still subscribed to the outlook and approach. Being in corporate and fighting for position to be at the top is weird when they only give you cents on the penny lol people pocket watching and creating dramas at the workplace etc #TallestMidget type shit
Play your game, and create your lane.

I'm Damon Dash's favorite student from his class and I just stopped by to send support. I pay for my career and I yell like Dame used to yell. It's great. I too enjoy making life hellish for any mediocre person who stumbles into my presence. I love being uncomfortable and making others uncomfortable. #Damedashdisciple

thank u so much!! to Julian and Dame! great questions jules. And Dame always has amazing insights and a great, healthy mindset
    timestamp below:
0:00 i like the intro and the mindset he's coming from of fly , passionate, creative, driven hustler but still be fly and not a cornball like dame , hov, puff, kevin hart, will smith, nipsey hustly, black mamba and other excellent people from our culture who are stil cool that we ressonate with and what it means to get paid to be yourself
5:35 dame comes out and what are some things that frustrated him abt corporate
8:30 boss' dont ask. rich dad principle- pay yourself first. some diff on how corporate and independent run
10:55 some principles abt abeing a boss or independent. house analogy . some benefits off being the boss
12:10 going from having a boss to being a boss and some of how to do it
13:00 dame being ahead of his time with his mindsets and how he feels about people catching up .
look at what people pay for, and do it yourself. be the plug
(there was so much game in here i couldnt catch them all. i have to rewatch it again)
18:00 you're never broke when u have money in the streets
20:20 dame alludes to the fact that he may have made an effort to do one of my biggest dreams. Seeing him and puff collab and get money together and go for world domination!
we need to stick together. no one is taking from u- its better if everyone is strong than if u are the only strong one out there . have that mindset of genuinly wanting others to win because u understand that its in everybodys best interest. Yes, yours as well. its a win/win!
dame does stupid shit sometimes. or doesnt do what he's should
22:35 good work vs leveraging celebrity
24:15 doing what u love, leveraging that
25:20 how dame managed to run so many business' simultaneously
    28:30 u need to flip!
29:30 u might not want a big staff! it could be like running on a treadmill
30:15 believe in yourself. how dame started believing in himself and making himself rich not others anymore
32:05 some challenges dame has had to deal with is the disrespect he had to sustain in corporate
(got to timestamp this part later)
39:45 what it maeans to be independent and why its importantvb
    1:19:20 how dame markets things
34:00 dont sell your time for money. do things u love.

Dame is referring to the contradiction. If you go on Boyce instagram you'll see the comments of his fans getting angry of him saying one thing one day and going against it the next day. Dame and Boyce, just not speaking their business out in public but if you follow them on Instagram you'll get the real gems.

Sometimes, I think Dame thinks very one-dimensionally. He always mentions this idea of starting out by "Buying something, bottling it up and selling for double" as a consistent means to advance however, most legitimate business ventures do not yield 100% return-on-investment as he often suggests. Dame seems to be referring to "hustling" legitimate and oftentimes illegitimate as the way to go, as without having to pay taxes, follow laws and such you probably can assure yourself a ROI like 100%. The issue with this mindset is when it becomes time to make the jump from "Illegitimate Street Hustler" to "Corporate Businessman" a lot of things change, and very drastically. And this is why I think Dame found himself in the position he ended up in with Roc-a-fella and Def Jam.
My advice; listen to his points, consider his history and make your own decisions from there. No one man's word is gospel, not even the pastor.

First of all... Please normalize your audio and boost the levels before you post a video.
Second... Dame is dropping knowledge for people who aspire to be entrepreneurs. However, what he is saying is simply not applicable to about 90% of the population and rather counter-intuitive for an executive to promote independence to worker bees. That type of mindset can help you gain a great deal of wealth and independence or you end up broke and dead. Telling people there is no security in being an employee in nonsense. In fact, there is far more job security in being an employee than an owner in most circumstances. Dope info but Dame also seems slightly detached from reality.
