Thank you Amber, we are dedicated to learning from you. You've made the non-profit world easy for us to understand through the new educative content you share on this platform.
Hi Amber, Great presentation. What was your process for obtaining feedback about your nonprofit? How did you get speaking engagements? Thank you, and have a great rest of the day and weekend. Cynthia 🥰
@Amber Melanie Smith He said something about salary being a program not overhead. So, I ewas wondering how to label it as a program, if that makes sense. Thank you for your asking for clarification. Maybe now it's clear as mud???
@@CynthiaMJackson-dk7nz If a staff is program staff (someone hired to manage or help execute a program), then that staff person's salary is a program expense.
I’m listening to this now because our non-profit has such a hard time with Charity Navigator. Guidestar / Candid is so much more user friendly and totally current with our nonprofit (990’s from 2012-2021) whereas Charity Navigator is much more challenging to update and literally has nothing but our name. One Foundation from which I’m applying for funding wants a Charity Navigator report and there is absolutely no way to run a report on the website, and no help in the FAQ’s. Hopefully this interview will offer some clarity
Hey Christina! Not sure if you saw my second Charity Navigator video, but they talk a bit more about how to update your profile. A lot of it is automatically pulled in by your IRS records, so whatever you have on file with the IRS is what Charity Navigator will have.
Hi, we are new, we only received our 501c3 in December of 2021, we were told our first filing is March 2023, so we have no 990 form to report. But we are in our second year of operation, and we need funding help! I just signed up for Charity Navigator while watching this video, waiting for confirmation of our 501c3 status. What can we do until we file our first 990?
Hey Amber, really liked your video What are donors looking for? @Charity Navigator Interview Part 1 Michael Thatcher, CEO, have you ever thought of getting a verification badge for your channel? It will definitely boost your views and subs by 100X.

Hi Amber,
Great presentation. What was your process for obtaining feedback about your nonprofit? How did you get speaking engagements? Thank you, and have a great rest of the day and weekend. Cynthia 🥰
Lots of ways to get feedback! Asking donors/volunteers, doing stakeholder surveys especially.
Can you share tips for small new nonprofits with a fiscal sponsor? I find your channel to be very helpful! Thank you!

You can still raise money! You just have to be transparent with donors that their donation is not tax deductible until you get your tax exempt status.
@@AmberMelanieSmith We have our 501c3 as of December of 2021, but we do not file our first 990 until 2023.
I think I'm at the point where I need to make a video of who I am and what I am about. But I have never been a camera man
Even starting simple with a video made on your phone is something!
@@AmberMelanieSmith I have never liked being in front of a camera.. I tried when I was traveling. It's just not my thing really....but ik I need to

This was good stuff but damn I hate that story telling stuff
LOL, I hear you - but I have learned that if you can get really good at it, storytelling is super powerful.
