They really did Big Nose Kate's character dirty in this movie, she wasn't trying to kill Doc, she only recognized that he had come to terms with the fact that he was GOING to die, and he'd rather go out living his life, on his own terms. In real life, she was the one taking care of Doc at the Sanitorium.

In the Kevin Costner version, Wyatt had to intervene in a moment of domestic abuse between Doc and Kate. Doc was drunk and put hands on her and she drew a pistol.
Instead of trying to calm her down Doc dared her to end him. Wyatt got Doc to be quiet and spoke to Kate.
During that scene you hear Kate tell her side of the story. She loves Doc and sticks with him despite his illness which is very contagious. But for all of her dedication he gets drunk and hits her.
Instead of saying sorry Doc keeps trying to goad her to pull the trigger. Finally Wyatt knocks out Doc and gets Kate to hand over the gun.
Theirs was a sad and tragic romance.

3:00, oh yeah all of these people were real people. Fun fact Doc Holiday was a Doctor of Dentistry from Griffin, Georgia. I grew up where Morgan is buried and Those really were Morgan's last words. In Tombstone, during the night paranormal tours, it's explained that the shots came from the back door in complete darkness. Nobody knows who shot him. There were two shots. Wyatt was actually there playing pool with him when it happened behind their backs in the back of the saloon. 1st shot missed Wyatt. But Morgan, he died on midnight... on Wyatt's birthday.

There's a western historian on UA-cam that talks about some of these events. He actually got to visit the movie set when they first started shooting.
He said that it looked like the director and Kurt Russell were butting heads because the director wanted Kurt to fight in a style accurate to the times, but Kurt kept fighting in a modern style. Then a couple of days later they fired the original director and hired a different one, and they changed the script.
He said that he got to read the original script and said if they stuck to it, it would've been the Godfather of westerns. And he hopes that Netflix or someone will pick it up and turn it into a mini series, because he thinks it's that good.

The conversation in Latin between Ringo and Holliday has implied meaning beyond it's literal translation, but in modern day English, it goes (loosely) as follows:
    Wyatt: He's drunk
Doc: I'm more honest when I'm drunk.
Ringo: You better watch your mouth.
Doc: Tell it to someone who cares, I don't.
Ringo: Maybe you need to be taught a lesson.
    Doc: It's your funeral.
That being said, "Open Range" is another really good western film you should check out! Starring Kevin Costner & Robert Duvall.
Tho Tombstone has always been a fave of mine! The movie was filmed at Old Tucson in Tucson, AZ (I was actually there at the time during filming back in 1993), which is about 70 miles north of the actual town of Tombstone, which still exists to this day and has many of its original buildings still standing.

Soap existed! It was homemade out of lard.
Also, "I'm your huckleberry" means "I'm the man for the job" or sometimes, depending who you say it to, means "I'm your buddy".
I saw another commenter mention "hucklebearer". A lot of people, including me, thought that's what he said during his fight with Johnny Ringo. It would have been awesome if he had, because it would have added a deeper meaning! But Kilmer has said the line was always huckleberry. I think I heard a rumor that the script is online somewhere.
Many places had anti Chinese organizations because the general public thought they were taking jobs away from everyone. But in actuality, the jobs they took were dangerous (building the railroads, working with explosives, etc).
When you said you hoped Wyatt would slap Billy Bob Thorton, I had to laugh because I knew what was coming! 😂 Johnny Tyler was a real guy, and headed up a local gambling ring. The incident did happen, but in reality it happened a few years later. I think it was a wise move to include it in the movie, because it showed us how Wyatt dealt with guys like that (And Ike. What a little punk).
Lots of reactors misunderstand Lou's yelling at Wyatt. She isn't mad, she's upset because Virgil has been shot, she's scared, and Wyatt won't stfu. Her reaction is a normal one.
That's all. I'll step aside and let everyone else chime in now! 😊

Tombstone is #2 on my western list. Great reaction. Watch Dances with Wolves and try not to cry. Masterpiece. Won 7 academy awards including best picture over goodfellas and godfather 3 in 1991. It’s the best Western of all time. It is credited as a leading influence for the revitalization of the Western genre of filmmaking in Hollywood. In 2007, Dances with Wolves was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". James Cameron took the story of dances with wolves and made a sci fi movie called Avatar 😂. Not kidding.

Kevin Costner filmed his own version of these events called Wyatt Earp. The script and dialogue is not as gangsta as this flick. But it is a much more historically accurate and shows more of their family background. The Earps despite being lawmen also did a bit of crime in their time. Pretty much their "wives" were part time prostitutes which leads into some hysterically funny situations.
Also Wyatt and Josephine were getting it in well before Maddie passed away.

I will fight many people on this but I must say it: this movie is for the most part accurate and faithful to the real Life events and people , with many phrases (Like , "You're a Daisy if you do") having been said by the real Life peopke .And far , far more so than the previous books and movies that served as a mythology of Real Life .But there are some things to mention that were inaccurate:
1- William Brocious did not willingly murder Marshall Frederick White .Apparently , (one of) his Revolver(s) had been decocked with the firing pin pressing on a live round and an unexpected bump leading to the injury that killed old Fred (Who was actually in his thirties in real Life) .White testified on his deathbed that Brocius did not mean to kill him and so did Wyatt Earp on his trial (Which makes Curly even more of a dick since Wyatt saved him from jail and he still has murderous intent against him) .
2- Ike Clanton did not try to return to the """Gunfight at the OK Corral""" (It was really called the Freemont Street Fight at the time and by its very survivors , since it was done outside the Corral) .Some reports claim he shot at the Lawmen but they are not certain and the fact that he was not shot and allowed to walk away despite being the main instigator of the violence and ill will helped demonstrate how the Earps and Holliday acted in Self-Defense at the "Spicer Hearings" .
3- The crippling of Virgil and killing of Morgan happened months away from each other and a second shot was fired at the Bar , which hit right above Wyatt's head and into a wooden post (Reading into the dude's Life , it is insane how many times he nearly got hit but somehow did not) .Reading the news article on his death and the weeping of his puppy is absolutely heart rending .
4- When going on his vengeful ride , the posse was joined by Newton and Warren Earp , the oldest and youngest of the brothers respectively .Also , Warren was a bully and a douche , desperate for violence and killed in an argument in 1900 .
5- No one knows who killed John Ringo or if he was killed .His death was officially ruled a suicide , although the angle of entry into his head is suspicious and it is reported that John Henry Holliday was too far away at the time to have done it .
6- Wyatt Earp did not visit John Henry Holliday at the Sanitorium , hearing of his death from others and having butted heads prior to this .I am fine with this change since it seems Wyatt was regretful of not having been there for his friend in his last days and it feels like a little gift for the famous Lawman .
7- The Colt Single Action Army used in the film do not have Walnut grips but rather have Gutta Percha grips , which were not introduced until 1882 , after most of the events portrayed .Also , Wyatt Earp used a Smith and Wesson Model 3 at the Freemont Street Fight , not his famous Colt SAA Buntline Special gifted to him for his work as a Dodge City Lawman .The rest of the firearms are fine , such as Holliday's Colt SAA and Thunderer , both Nickel plated , the Stevensons 10 Bore Shotgun used by Earp and Company and Virgil's S&W Model 3 Third Russian Model .
Love your reaction , you really make me enjoy the film even more .

I love this movie. It’s my favorite Kurt Russell movie, but Val Kilmer stole my heat as Doc. I almost wished you would have watched Kevin Costner’s Wyatt Earp first and saved this one, which was the best, for last. They did a great job with this movie and Kurt Russell was the reincarnation of Wyatt Earp in my opinion. I am curios to see your reaction to Young Guns and Silverado.
