Heard this on Radio 1 in early July 1989 (but didn't know who the band was), saw this performance in mid-July 89, bought the single on cassette immediately and have treasured it ever since. It's such a beautiful song, so evocative of the 80s and yet it stands the test of time. After all, we are still listening to and loving it 34 years on...
I LOVE THE BIBLE....they are fantastic, great musicians and lovely song writers. The album Eureka is simply WONDERFUL. Listening your music I felt always a great pleasure. You remind me the sweetest part of my youth, thank you guys! :-) A big hug from Italy!
@BigUncleJ I can't believe I didn't know about these recent gigs!!! Thanks to your post, I've only just realised that The Bible had reformed. I last saw them on the 'Dodo' tour, which was superb. I've seen Boo play solo several times but The Bible always have a special place in my heart. I'm gutted that I've missed the recent gigs. I only hope that they play a handful more - in Manchester, if you're listening Boo!!
Tony (keyboards) is my brother - I remember seeing this show being done - we had seats right at the back, and Ben Elton was dead nervous, it was his first show sitting in for Tel. It was the days before fake drum kits were available for miming, so Dave was kicking the bass drum pedal and by the time the noise got to the back of the theatre it was really out of time with the soundtrack. Glad that didn't come across on the telly! REALLY looking forward to seeing them tonight at the Clapham Grand..
I loved the way Wogan showcased new singles and often ones that were not necessarily likely to rise high in the charts ( this deserved too, of course). It was filmed at the Shepherds Bush Empire I think. Used to go past it often on my way to work in White City in the nineties and early 2000s. I saw Nik Kershaw there in 1999 and Prefab Sprout on a rare tour in 2000. I cannot remember the name of the venue next door but I saw Then Jerico there in the mid 1990s when Mark Shaw was trying to keep the band on the road.
I think it was the late summer of 89 when they were on wogan, I know they released HBG on numerous times, but when they were on prime-time T.V. I thought this is it...everybody will know of The Bible" Now....hopes dashed, they split just over a year later..tragic.
+Davin Dx Yes ... they re-released it on those dates hoping to get recognised within the uk/gb charts as they were considered (at the time) a uni - indie band !.
+Dalia Guevara The Lead singer Boo (Mark Nicolas) Hewerdine, came from a religious protestant christian family ... and at that time other bands had religious names like "The Jesus and Mary Chain" and "The Christians" .. So the band used "The Bible" ... from what I know of there music (a lot) they had one song called "Mahalia" named after an black American christian singer, that is the only christian reference I can think of ... If you ever look at there imagery its pagan like!.
@@merseydave1 And another song or album called graceland the whole thing is rife with religion which should have been left out so this band stood out because this song sounds great. i think this song was on an album out january 1988.

Saw Boo playing in Edinburgh tonight with Heidi Talbot - fantastic performance and it was so great to hear this song again 👍👍❤️

by 1988 rigged radio was already ignoring good music and playing the primitive trash... it only got worse every 5 years thereafter.
Boo Hewerdine So Cute!!!!!
@jediboyuk He looked a bit like Jason Donovan lol. I can't really imagine Jason coming up with something like this, though... marvellous.
@aleroguy21 o ok thanks
does anybody know what this song was about ?
Horrendous name for a band hoping to stand out. Great song. Was this song out in 87,88, or 89? I am reading conflicting things.
+Davin Dx could u tell me why they used that name???

What a tragic wast of talent that they didnt make it in the "big time" !
