I have loved having planted aquariums, and that's how I got into houseplants. I learned that I don't like a lot of fuss and maintenance, so now I have a 40 breeder with just a bunch of easy to grow things that don't need CO2 (bolbitis, anubias, swords, crypts) along with several pothos, a monstera deliciosa, and a peace lily growing out the back. Water stays clean!
I am no joke soooo happy you're getting back into planted tanks!! I just recently entered the hobby myself and I literally crave aquarium content now :) Such a lovely video and tank!!! Any plans for shrimp or fish?
When I first saw your videos months ago, it really got me into houseplants. My collection is still pretty small but I am really enjoying it. I also recently started my aquarium, also inspired by you. The only plant that I have in there is pothos 😅. Hopefully I can so something like this in the future.
It’s nice to see someone my age also being interested in planted aquariums. I always felt like the community were all old biologists and nobody else my age was really into it. So glad I came across this video super interesting and relaxing to watch! Inspired me to maybe have my own planted aquarium
Oh I'd love to make a planted aquarium with a large peace lilly I have so I totally appreciate seeing these tutorials!! Where did you purchase you're tissue culture plants through ?
It's pretty different but I love to make bioactive vivariums its way easier then aquariums in my experience. Aquariums are also very fun and it makes me so happy seeing the animals enjoying there habitat. It's fun to make too and it's going shopping for fish is also pretty fun. So what I'm trying to say is please make the aquarium and don't give up if it goes bad.
@@plantseveryinch9024 I think it's more expensive making an aquarium and taking care of the water can be hard. And changing it. Depending on the plants you want you may need CO2. You need really big tanks and one problem with the water that you don't spot in time can make your aquarium die. I think vivariums also kinda hard. You may get mites if you don't quarantine and you pet reptile could try to eat your plants. If you don't put a pet its a terrarium. I think paludrium and ripariums look the best but I never made one so your need to do more research on those and on all these enclosure so you know what your doing.
I remembered your note about using paper towels to glue rocks together when making my terrarium yesterday! I glued wood and rocks together for my hard scape and then cultured Christmas moss. I love the idea of combining aquatic and terrestrial plants in terrariums. Planning on adding selaginella and oak leaf ficus 😀
You actually inspired me to get more into planted aquariums from your setup with the aquariums on the shelves in your old place when I found you on tiktok earlier this year. I also just got around to setting up a walstad style 3 gallon bowl last week after seeing that planted bowl TikTok you posted a while ago. Planted tanks actually seemed really intimidating before but your videos made me really want to try them. Really enjoy your content.
I also started with planted tanks! Definitely a good segway from aquascaping to house plants. You learn a lot about one that can be applied to the other. :)
sooo excited you're getting back into aquariums! i had a very basic one a year ago, but loved watching my dad create his 50 gallon tank when I was young. i think it's time to bring mine back. this video will be great guidance!
paused at 2:11 because I just want to point out and say that you are sooooo creative and just ashadunadhhadhadwaaaaaaaahhh youre so great and wonderful and i just love you and chris and i dont think i will ever ever eveerrr get tired of you huhu
I just love this and you! Your videos have inspired me to expand my green thumb from house plants/gardening to terrariums and aquariums. Thank you so much for sharing!
Wow. That turned out so beautiful!! I probably won’t ever do aquarium plants. But I love what you did and loved the video! I’d be happy to see more!! I’ll live vicariously through you 😂
I have no desire to build an aquarium. Standing water kind of freaks me out. I'm just here because I like to hear Benji talk. His voice is very soothing.
Omg this is so beautiful! Thanks for the tips I’m upgrading my fishs tank to a bigger tank this weekend and I want to put a bunch of pretty plants in it
Some good alternatives to cigarette filters that are almost definitely less expensive are cotton balls and polyester. They’ll do basically the same thing (speed up curing time and be a connecting point between objects), and they’re a lot more readily available. The only downside is that cotton can decay underwater. This isn’t going to happen as badly if it’s covered in glue, obviously, but it’s still something to consider. In a terrarium or some other terrestrial setup, cotton works just fine. But polyester is probably a better option for aquatic applications, since it’s synthetic. You can get cotton at really any pharmacy or supermarket in the form of cotton balls and pads for makeup removal. Polyester fluff is a little tougher to find, but it’s a component in a lot of air and water filters, some small-scale insulations, and as stuffing for pillows and plush stuffed animals and dog toys. But yeah, I dunno how expensive cigarette filters are, but I imagine that they’re pretty pricey, considering the price of cigarettes, cigars, reusable lighters, pipes, and all the other smoking stuff. It’s an expensive habit (so I’ve heard).
There is a good channel about fishtanks with a great comunity, Fish for thought and they have kind of a discord for discussing and sharing planted aquariums.
Love your channel Benji. :) I do house plants as well and I edit/film for a channel named Aquarium Co-Op.. and I’m Vietnamese lol. Good to see the diversity of the channel 🌱🪴🐠
I would love to see your take on paludariums and setups that are both plant and aquarium. I tried cigarette filter and it was a big fail, I think it depends on what they are made from. I think mine were more of a plastic then a natural fibre like cotton or wood pulp.
It's so fun to watch you design and find ways to put it all together! If you put fish and some other aquarium animals in the tank, how would you control algae? I suppose CO2 wouldn't be an option as it'll damage fish and other animals?
Wow, you have a great creative eye for sure! Looks really good, and the plants look super cute too. Oh, now you need some fish and other creatures inside too!
I just discovered your channel and love all your videos. Thank you for posting this I'm super inspired! Have you ever tried growing lotus in an aquarium or have any tips??
benjiii thank you for this! i wanted to get started on aquariums next year so im trying to do as much research as i can. i hope you continue to share more aquariums w us in the future :) !!
you could use a rock or a bag of small rocks to create height in the substrate and save up some precious lumps of aquasoil... -words from a budget aquarist
Nice emergent growth with H verticilata. Also, I think the addition of grass like plants in the back was super smart. Which species is it? The Rotala growth and color look amazing!
i loved mine but i just didn’t have the time to keep changing the water so the water got so orange and it died 😭😭 but a planted aquarium is one of my goals for when i do have the time for it 🙏🏼
this is awesome! i have a couple of planted fishtanks but it’s such an expensive hobby where i live. can you make a tutorial on how to use the osmocote? do you just use it like you would use the fancy fertile substrate?
I love it and you're so sweet ✨ it's so interesting, I want one for my home✨🥺 Furthermore I have a lot of plants in my room and I want more for my house. I'm searching some kind of plants safe for cats. I have a pothos that it's huge😍😍 Love seeing plants in water... It's such a magic see the oxygen on their leaves 🥺

this is sooo helpful and perfect timing, I was literally thinking of starting my own planted aquarium yesterday!!!
Oh I'd love to make a planted aquarium with a large peace lilly I have so I totally appreciate seeing these tutorials!! Where did you purchase you're tissue culture plants through ?
i purchased most of them from my local aquarium store, but i provided links in the description if you want to buy them online

OMG I love the way you create the layouts with the rocks and driftwood before you plant, you're so creative 🥺
Omg I love so much the vibes of your videos ! So relaxing and inspiring
My favorite store ever! The owner is such a nice and sweet guy. Glad to see he's still in business :)
Such a cool video. It’s so fascinating to watch and see the aquarium come together!
I like how your so relaxed chill like watching you from beginning to now and I always learn this one should me to be patient 👍👍👍

Just a tip, pull the moss in half and just pull the jelly off the bottom. Saves much more time
Wow! I appreciate these tutorials. Thx for sharing 😊
Very cool! I kinda want to make a fishbowl one now. 😍
I’m finally starting in the planted aquarium hobby so this is right on time for me 😬
I love it I think it's become more amazing if it has a fish and cute turtle💚
Way to small for a turtle, but it is a ten gallon so you could get some really small schooling fish like chili rasboras.
You've helped me fall in love with a new passion! I'm so excited :)
Wow this is beautiful. I want to live here :(
