It’s not likely with 2 attack dice, but, if it is persistent, there’s still a chance.
Luke is my favorite. I feel like his force ability is great, plus his synergy with Leia is good.
His ability is great. However, when I'm running 5 ship lists, his cost is a factor. His Battle of Yavin Loadout is cost effective at 5.
Most lists I see have either BoY Luke or BoE Wedge. Wedge seems expensive at 6 but Luke seems like the best fit at 5. Lukes survivability and not having to rely on proximity or shot order make him the best imo.

I usually build a 5 ship list and trying to fit a 5 point ship is a challenge at times. Yes, I can put in BoY Luke or BoE Wedge, but that may mean sacrificing a X-Wing for Arvel or Keo in an A-Wing that may not endure the fight as long as a X-Wing.
Think custom Wedge is definitely my first go-to T65 pilot, Thane is good though I do really enjoy flying Wes Janson. He currently has a very good amount of loadout available and his jamming ability is very useful. BoY Luke would be my current 3rd go to, well, 2nd before Wes but at his current squad cost he has a lot of punch with Pro-torps, 2 force, attack speed in place of the S-foils boost which does not remove a red die and R2D2 able to regen a shield twice. Possibly not the most entertaining pilot to use but effective
Corran Horn is also very fun, wish he had torps instead of missiles currently but his ability is very nice particularly when flying with B-wings

Thayne at 5 is better than Garvin at 4. While Garvin ability is more fruitful to the squad, if he doesn’t get shot at first, his ability can become moot. Both are still very good pilots.
It can all be situational or you purposely fly Garvin in front to be shot at.
