Remember that afternoon like as if it were yesterday!!! Ray “Romford Pele” truly run that midfield like a true lion. What a talented young Nicholas Anelka was. A true revolution took place on and off the pitch at Arsenal for next 7 to years , then all goes pear shape.
Possibily my fave Arsenal team of all time that double winning season. I was 9 years old and they were superheros to me. Overmars on the back of my shirt
Man, that was Gary Speed, it's been 9 years since he passed away. I remember that match, I was about to graduate from the University of Baghdad in June of that year. Time goes really fast...
I have been watching football for over 65 years and the ice man in my opinion was simply the best, marvellous technicion and a lot tougher than he looked, the goal against Newcastle still stands out as the best individual goal of all time.
Newcastle rarely threatened on the day, had this match been two years earlier I'd have fancied them for the win. Arsenal were superb that season though.
@@andrawalter4151 >>> Nope. Wenger said he would have bought Henry regardless. Wenger bought him because he wasn't happy at Juventus not because of Anelka's departure. Remember Henry was a winger then.
It's probably already been said, but Overmars scored the goal at Old Trafford that cut Man Utd's lead at the top earlier that season. Won them the double. Hell of a player.
George Graham’s tactical rigour combined with Arsène Wenger’s dynamic fluidity gave rise to one of the best teams in football history. Btw isn’t it amazing that seventeen years later Shay Given would face Arsenal again in the FA Cup final 2015 and be ripped again?
The 97/98 and 98/99 Arsenal team was the greatest. We really should’ve won back to back doubles if it wasn’t for United getting lucky in the FA Cup semi final and losing to Leeds in the league. If we would’ve drawn against Leeds, we would’ve been level on points and goal difference with United and would’ve won the league as we beat them head to head.
The mysterious case of Nicolas Anelka. Wonderkid at PSG. Wenger saw something in him, but Anelka didn't repay the faith. He thought he was good enough to play for Madrid. Everyone laughed, from Madrid to a flop at Liverpool, and somehow this man who played for PSG, Real Madrid, Liverpool, ended up at Bolton. Many years later, most of the player at his age is retired, but he's at Stamford Bridge banging in goals as though he just peak. Lolol this guy is the best.
I was a blackpool pleasure Beach on this day.. 10yr old, boiling Hot.. kept checking the score on the tvs at different outlet, was gutted seeing nufc getting beat lol
My tops said, THANK GOD 4 VIEIRA When I first had it done the guy was like, what?? then when he held it up after he said it was the best one he’d printed.
This is my earliest Arsenal memory. For some reason the Newcastle kit stuck in my mind. I vaguely remember Euro 96 but I was 5 at the time so I only really remember the grey kit and David Seaman's pontly tail and mustache.
As much as I miss this English defense, I also rate the DM duo so much in Petit and Viera, it's so sad we haven't replaced them since they left arsenal
Arsenal should have really made a statement in the summer transfer window by signing Zinedine Zidane (who went on to dominate with France at the World Cup) they missed out and allowed Utd to come back stronger and win their treble.
Quite rightly a lot of attention gets paid to the '02 and '04 clubs but this team was right up with the best Arsenal teams- if you look at what this team did the 2nd half of the season the football they played the way they steamrolled in the league and the cup and if not for losing players to the transfer market might have rattled off 3 or 4 in a row...we could use a Tony Adams now!
Marc Overmars' pace was criminally underrrated!
As fast as King Thierry

When Martin Tyler said "they are ARSENAL" that gave me chills.
No anymore brother they left their soul at Highbury and Wenger and Co. destroyed us.

What a small club. Average club.

Anelka was a phenomenal talent.
Damn Martin keown with the mustafi skills
Luckly Alan Shearer missed it...
Got his powers stolen.... Like in space jam... He was all over the place there 🤣🤣
Anelka would have been Arsenal great if we hadn’t sold him what a talent he had. Imagine Henry and Anelka upfront and The Ace man behind them.
Henry was bought from Anelka's transfer
Simon Clancy him and Cesc got away cos of Arsene stubbornness Anelka time we had Chamakh and Adebayor.

Lovely memories. Was a great day indeed. Remember it like it was yesterday
The FA Cup has always been our personal trophy.
Between us and chelsea and recently city
I have to admit I do find it mildly amusing how we keep winning FA Cups and yet haven't won a league cup (the easier trophy) since 1992.
I was 9 years old when I was watching this. The good old days!!!!
Look at Viera with the poise and control of the game..
My captain. 😍
Marc Overmars 💓
I miss those days, let’s get them back!
love to watch the full game !!
Damn!Anelka lethal man,he was cold in his teens

Overmars was a superb player man. Jeez
The king of Fa Cup
Nice football we played back then 😭😭😭😭
Now it’s all about dancing and taking selfies on the touch line.

Nostalgia at its finest.
Anelka was such a stud. 19 years old starting for Arsenal in an FA Cup final

What a squad arsenal had there
1998 and Patrick Vieira was here and he was still there for the 03-04 season man this guy was a gunner!!!
Anelka plays for every team
I was there. What a memory.
What a fantastic team, how I miss those times. Seems like Arsenal lost their true identity when they moved from Highbury.
I remember this match and when they were driving on the north circular Ian Wright hanging out the window
My favourite player
Marc overmars score!!!
I missed the Real Arsenal "Gunners", I grew to love so darely. But will always be a Gunner.

First game I remember watching on TV
Also RIP Gary Speed. Xxx
That goal at man utd 98 Superb!
LIL MARKY Overmars!!
Saturday 16th May 1998
What a season Parlour and Overmars had. Our midfield was sick Overmars-Petit-Vieira-Parlour. Now we have Ceballos Xhaka and El Neny 😂😭😭
Arsenal golden days. They were ARSENAL, now they’re just arsenal
At least show us clips when he made blistering runs, and not two yard dashes.
Lol

Overmars scared the life outta defenders
The year before Henry. To think this already incredible team got better.
Overmars-Anelka is like Bergkamp-Wright
Anelka jogava muito

1:33 Keown was in tatters there lol
I am here only to listen to Martin Tyler. Golden days of EPL
class of 98 vs class of 92 epic.
2020, we're doing the FA this year
Overmars has the same playstype like Heug-Min Son just 100x better
Look at Arsenal now 😳
Title of the video : "how fast was Overmars". Highlights : "not 1 run from Overmars"
Anelka was really good at this age
tbf Anelka was always great..there was always question marks about his personality but as a footballer the guy was brilliant
Arsenal should have really made a statement in the summer transfer window by signing Zinedine Zidane (who went on to dominate with France at the World Cup) they missed out and allowed Utd to come back stronger and win their treble.
But if anyone is playing a cup final, he must call up to Petit. Great character for Emanuel.
Jeez, the standard's come on since then, hasn't it?
1-0 Marc Overmars (23 min)
2-0 Nicolas Anelka (69 min)
Anelka do in this game something that Henry never do for Arsenal- scoring in final....
When my gunners were phenomenal

Funny because after the takeover Newcastle will probably have a better team in the next few years. I miss this arsenal
Arsenal are finished now!!
once upon a time arsenal club, now it's arsenic club.
Just wait 4 years and u couldnt image whats going to happen
"It's Anelka. There's no catching him and may be there's no catching Arsenal now"
VAR still trying to compute Anelka’s goal 😂
that defense error xD
0:20 Moments like this make me think Anelka was the luckiest striker ever by signing so many big teams...
comments like these make me question your knowledge of football mate 😌
Had Arsenal kept those legends they would've won at least 1 UCL
The same team that couldn't make it passed the first round of UEFAcup that season? Nor passed the first round of CL 1998/99?
ghe start of invinsibles

Anelka could've been a GREAT if he'd had some stability in his career and had some independent guidance.
Jordan Peterson in his prime was really good
Kevin Costner was at this game
