    Original fisheye footage is now included. Download link is here: xr.creatorup.com/canon-eos-vr-system-in-depth-review/ - You can download the Canon VR Utility App or Premiere Pro Plug-in and stitch it for VR headset preview. The app is free to use for footage under 2-min. Enjoy!

      Thanks for the test video clips for downloading! Since I don't use Premiere, for the time being I can work with 8 bit mp4 export files from the EOS VR Utility to use in my Vegas Pro editing software (until they update to allow ProRes 422). Everything looks good and the footage handles well! I'm now awaiting delivery of my lens next week. Thanks again for everything you've provided on this lens!

    Canon R5 shooting overheating can be solved with an external dummy battery, an external memory card and an external monitor. In addition, there is also a fan for cooling the phone to solve it.

    You can tell that the noise being produced by the R5's sensor is workable. It's hiding plenty of buried detail in the noise waiting to be sifted out and reclaimed with tools like Topaz in post. A monolithic lens by itself is a superior solution to twin sensors, so long as we can mate it to a cam that suits every users individual goals, and can carry over as we upgrade camera bodies over our lifetimes. Like any normal lens barrel.
    That's a very good sign. But Canon still needs to knock it off with the proprietary mounting ring.

    Hey everyone! I want to share some good news! I can confirm that the Canon VR lens does indeed work with ALL Canon mirrorless camera bodies (R, RP, R6, R5, R3) for photos! I took some test shots with the VR lens on an R6, resized the jpegs to 8192x5464 (the R5 photo resolution), copied the Metadata from an R5 jpeg shot with the VR lens, and pasted it into the resized R6 photos. The Canon EOS VR Utility software read the R6 photos just fine and exported out properly corrected equirectilinear 3D VR180 photos! This is great news!
    Unfortunately, this does not work well for video. Without explaining a couple extra necessary steps to actually make the Canon VR software make corrections to the video file, the bigger problem is that the R, RP, and R6 do not record DCI video, so the sides of the video files are actually cropped a touch. I haven't tested to see what the final output would look like but I assume it wouldn't look great.

    • @hughhou
      @hughhou  2 роки тому

      So you can copy meta from video file to trick Canon VR Utility? What if I crop in Premiere and make the size exactly the same as R5 and copy meta in and treat the software to stitch video file?

    • @marksoukup1267
      @marksoukup1267 2 роки тому

      @@hughhou So, I haven't tested this yet so it's theoretical. The process to go about making 3D VR video work from any Canon camera is to bring the video into any video editing program that allows exporting out the video as a jpeg sequence, with a resolution of 8192x5464. Make sure the aspect ratio is preserved if you're trying to pad out extra empty space. (If you can't go that high with resolution then you may need to do a batch process expand the size in photoshop.) Copy the Metadata from an original R5 3D VR jpeg and paste it into all the exported jpegs. Open up one of the exported jpegs into the Canon VR Utility program and let the software generate corrections for the jpeg. If you need to make adjustments to the file do so. Now quite the program. There will be an .xml file created for that jpeg with all the corrections for it inside. Make as many copies necessary of that xml file as you have of the exported jpeg files. Then use a renaming program like A.F.5 to quickly batch rename all the .xml files to match the names of the jpeg files. The reason for doing it this way is so that all the VR corrections are exact...we don't want any variation between the jpegs. Then open the folder with all the jpegs in the Canon VR Utility program, select all, and export out the corrected jpegs. Now you can bring the corrected jpegs into Premiere or any video editing program as a jpeg video sequence, edit as you like, crop the video to 8192x4096, and export it out as a video file.
      Theoretically this should work, but I haven't tested it. Likewise, you can do this same trick with R5 VR RAW video. Edit with Canon's Cinema RAW and export out. I'll have to figure out if a jpeg sequence or video works better. Either way, read the first part of this post to proceed forward to getting the RAW video to an edited 3D VR mp4 video. Hope this helps! Let me know if you discover anything promising!

      I'm self-taught, but I've recently been viewing the SMPTE presentations and I'm almost convinced that a lot of the wing-clipping nay-sayers on the Internet are largely repeating falsehoods about optics, video, and photo stuff. It gets even crazier once you dive into some of the literature and methods for anamorphic projection and stacking from 50-100 years ago. Mind-blowing (imo) material that deserves a whole lot more attention than what it's currently given. That said; I'm more impressed with the sound projection of the Quest 2 than I am it's ghetto optics. We should talk!

      What is the RAW photo workflow? Did you render out as jpg and put in EOS VR Utility?

    • @marksoukup1267
      @marksoukup1267 2 роки тому +1

      @@hughhou So the first key step is shooting RAW + Jpeg. Next, I imported the Raw photo in Lightroom and edited them like normal. Then I exported it out to to Jpeg. Then I used ExifToolGUI to copy the Exif data from the original Jpeg that came from the R5 and pasted it into the edit Raw-to-Jpeg file. Then I opened EOS VR Utility and pointed to the folder containing the Raw-to-Jpeg file. It read the Jpeg file as if it were the original Jpeg that came straight out of the R5, and had no problem applying corrections to it. Then I exported it out to a finalized Jpeg for VR headset viewing! Awesome huh?
      I did not try this with multiple photos. I will check to see if I can do a batch copy and paste to multiple edited jpegs at once. If I can, then theoretically you should be able to do the same with Raw 8k video!

      If you want VR video emerge....You need cheaper, better and easier VR device to wear....
      and you need cheaper and better camera in order to produce a lot of VR video...Mobile phone are able of 5,7k recording and just need of dual lens 150° or 180°....(instead of useless ultra wide or macro cam)
      And a VR video has to be easy to produce....like a Tik Tok video... It's not the case actually...

      @@SETHalpine thank you for advice. I know all this moments. But I have VR class - 20 headsets and application for synchronization. Also I’m going to show my videos in headsets for whole classroom. Not mobile, not UA-cam - because I demonstrate in countryside schools. There are many such schools in Russian countryside places where there aren’t Internet or very bad Internet connection. Therefore I need my own quality educational films. I filmed by Insta360 EVO, but I didn’t like quality.

      @@SETHalpine I have insta360 Pro1, I have Insta360 One X2. But much immersive for my purposes is VR180. I’m going to sell Insta360 Pro1 (maybe I’ll buy Titan in the future))) and buy Canon. VR360 video I’m going to film by Insta360 One X2 but only from drone. And ground shooting only VR180 by Canon. 360 panoramas I’m shooting by Sony A7m3 with Nodal Ninja pano head and PTGUI.
