DS2 was a thousand times less bs than this guy
@maximedaunis8292 nah DS2 is ass bro. Some of the worst bosses in the the franchise are in DS1 and DS2. They make Godskin duo and fire giant look like good bosses (they're not)

@@dididi3368 DS2 had great hit boxes? HAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, the game where there were dozens of memes about one boss's hitboxes alone (pursuer), and it gets much worse than that in the game. On the other hand, DS3 is the game that always had videos showing off people dodging the attacks by pixels because the hitboxes were extremely accurate.

Pro tip: The Crucible Feather talisman makes his charges actually avoidable
It also makes you die to absolutely everything else in 2 hits maximum cause of the lowered damage negation
You can dodge this charge with medium and light roll 100% consistently
No way i just watched bro try to roll forward into an oncoming semi 💀 just dodge to the side dude
You cant
@@swift7842 You absolutely can, it just doesn't give you a lot of frames, so you need to time it correctly
@@JohnDoe-xt3kf due to the tracking, it’s heavily dependent on context and environment which makes it so there’s no 1 consistent way to dodge it which makes it a lot more about knowledge than timing.
Whilst I do think it’s an interesting idea to have a move that you need to think for, it’s somewhat poorly executed since there aren’t really any other moves that need you to think like this which causes it to be really difficult to be able to actually tell what the intended way to dodge it is.
(This has also now been patched in the most recent update but it’s worth bringing up how the original spawn location for the Gaius was directly in front of the fog gate which was the one place where it actually is possible to dodge either left or right freely, which is the biggest culprit for making it seem like it’s just a normal move that can be dealt with the normal way)
@@swift7842 That's simply not true, you can 100% consistently dodge the charge if you get the timing right and dodge to the side but toward him
How is it difficult to tell you're supposed to dodge toward him but to the side ?
For anyone struggling who may see this: Raptor of the Mists ashes of war renders the charge useless and can also be used for basically every attack.
Fighting him with deflecting hardtear is actually really fun
king bulblin would be proud
MY NAAAAAAME IS GAIUS MASATAKA ONIWAAA! AND AS I BREATH, YOU SHALL NOT PASS THESE HITBOXES!
No, no jokes aside, curse you Miyazaki.
Ahh yes, Miyazaki's favourite hog rider, Commander Bullshit
The pig fucking ascending got me😂
Thomas the train in shadowlands
My favorite part is how the charge attack hits multiple times. And also the part where it does inconsistent damage. And also the part where it hits you through knocked down s
Remember when he charged you, hit you into a wall, kept going so you have no choice but to stand up or roll into him STILL doing the charge? Death is what happens then lol. Never mess up the first part.
It has an hitbox for the front of the pig and one for the back, not really a problem if you dodge it.
It doesn't do inconsistent damage...
BTW when Gaius charge at you, roll to the right.
It’s quite dependent on his position relative to you when starting the charge, there’s no fullproof way to consistently dodge it without any outside items like raptor of the mist or vow of the indomitable. (Although I’m somewhat unsure if it still applies to light load)
@swift7842 The charge CAN be consistently dodged with just medium load for sure! Been doing it most of time when helping people in coop. But make sure to put the Opaline Hardtear in your Flask of Wondrous Physick, so in case you fail the dodge, it will save you.
@edinonjunio "CAN be consistently dodged... most of the time" I guess 60% of the time it works all the time.
@HarryS77 More like 80% of the time... But seriously, when I fail to dodge, it is because I mess up the roll. The charge attack hitbox is just fine.
@@swift7842 That's untrue, you can 100% consistently dodge his charge to the right
Looking at the player animations and the boss animations, it's like they belong to different games.
Because the boss moves at lightning speeds, meanwhile it takes 5 years for the player to chug a healing flask.
Miyazaki went full fucking anime with some of these enemies and bosses. Very cool and flashy, if only my character wasn't moving like a rheumatic snail.
Why would you expect a boss to behave like the player character ? Bosses fight in souls games were always supposed to be "superior" to the player character in terms of what they're able to do, it was always supposed to be the player overcoming the odds and killing beings more powerful than them. don't remember Artorias behaving like the player character, he does backflip, frontflip and leap across the arena, he outclass the player character in terms of movement and abilities.
This is a consistent thing across 99% of bosses in souls games, they're not supposed to be the equal of the player characters they're supposed to be very powerful beings that surpass the player character in every way.
This doesn't make the fights unfair mechanically since the player character has i-frames and is able to dodge 99% of attack thrown by the bosses, when they're not able it's most likely a bug to be fixed.
@@Crichjo32 It doesn't take 5 years, you're supposed to find openings to heal not just mindlessly spam the heal button every time you take damage.
Also none of the bosses move that fast, the vast majority of their attack are reactable and avoidable
@@portalmanHUN This is how souls games always worked, Artorias of the Abyss in DS1 can do triple back flip, leap across the entire arena, do a double frontflip into an attack, can input read when the player is healing, has a anime powerup moement, is literally inspired from a manga character, can charge at high speed, has delayed attacks...
Bosses in souls games were always full anime, they were always "cool and flashy" and always outmatched the speed of the player character.
Also the speed of the player character has vastly increased in Elden Ring, you have light roll, you recover faster from attack, you can jump to cover more distance and to get i-frames, you have access to attack that can close gap, you also have "anime" attack, you have tons of i-frame AOW, you have guard counter, you heal faster...
theres a tear you can put in your physick that gives you sekiro styled deflections that apparently trivializes this boss:))
have fun for consequential playthrus lmao

You have to take a long way around to get to him (try the right side area of shadow keep)

Boss is designed to be a horseback joust.
Dude: "i gona use mimic''
Half of this guy's. Attacks are near impossible to Dodge on horseback and instantly kill your horse. Trying to joust does nothing.
@@man-iz4ml you can actualy with a good timing on dashs, double jump and dismounts. Also staying on is flank that not covered by is lance help.
Also i advise a good holly spear or a throwing weapon (dlc) help even with full strengh builds.
eh, fighting him on horseback wasn't too fun from my experience. While you can flank around and jump over a lot of the attacks, the pig still has some pretty janky hitboxes that make it feel like a coin flip each time on wether or not it hits you. Pairing this with the fact that getting hit will ABSOLUTELY kill torrent, and leave you stunned on the ground long enough for Gaius to get a free hit on you, the risk just isn't worth it. Had a lot more fun fighting this guy on foot than I did on horseback tbh
@@Begbras I'm not struggling. I beat him relatively quick.
Have fun jousting on wet paperbag Torrent while Gaius is corkscrew flying at you at mach 10.
Dude's not a boss, he's a blight on fun.
pretty much my only issue with it was that stupid charge, cant dodge into it or to the side, cant jump over it, I tried SPRINTING sideways and that SOMETIMES worked lol.
this is a severe case of not having raptor of the mists
I love this guy!
A great fight, that's what it is.
"oh no I cannot summon my mimic tear and win first try thanks Miyasaki :'((("
This guy felt harder to fight than fucking Radahn and Messmer just because of how janky the hitboxes on him are.
Damn, he feels so much more graceful with that first song.
Yeah, trying to melee Gaius is cancer. But I'm running an Int/Dex build, so I summoned Taylew and spammed Comet when he wasn't attacking me.
I never had any issues with this boss. Soloed him in 1 try easy.
Because i poise casted impenetrable thorns into his butt 3 times.
"Itz our idendity" "the game will break if we do this"
This guy was making me lose my damn marbles
Bloodhound step makes dodging the charge so much more barable 😭
To this day I still don’t know whether I’m expected to block, jump, frame perfect dodge or Torrent i-frames that stupid charge of his to avoid taking damage.
diagonally"frame perfect dodge" The dodge is absolutely not "frame perfect" you have a reasonable margin for error , you're supposed to dodge diagonally with good timing
I haven't played the DLC yet, but saw that moveset and immediately went, "oh, this guy exists to teach you how to use that Sekiro Deflection physick."
The final boss does too
I don't think you can deflect the hog charge since it's a lingering hitbox
@gunsevenwhillans420 It us one if the easiest things to deflect I have found.
@@archercraft1018 Huh. Alright. So Commander Gaius is Blazing Bull 3.0 then
Me medium rolling straight through the charge and coming out unscathed each and every time. Gaius isn’t hard or BS, people just seem to be awful at timing their rolls. Same with the final boss, time your rolls, punishes and heals.
Personally, I found he wasn’t too hard, staying close to him seemed really important, and I only really used a shield to block the charge attack.
you can use torrent in this fight , but is only really useful in phase 1
The classic charge after heal lock animation, gets me everytime 🤣
This is the worst boss I've ever seen in any FromSoft game (and I solo'd him btw).

@@wingnutmcjamison4876 I think it will be nerfed, the hitboxes, the speed of the hog, everything.
Astel
@@Goofy_Prussianyou have problems fighting astel?
Bro Midir exists.
Honestly, the only problem with Gaius is the charge. The rest of his moveset is pretty standard for an ER Boss
This mf and the final boss got me returning to my Emo roots
That boss is broken, it hits you even when you cover yourself with the best shield
That teleport spell was literally built for these charge moves it feels. miriams vanishing i think its called and it trivialises those charges
Use the guard absorption talisman and get your blessing up wickedly high. By that point i had like… 68, 70 percent physical reduction, so eating the damage wasn’t too bad but blocking it was better
mate, you tried to block boar the size of a rhino in a full plate armor, what the hell did you expect?
Bro, you just didn't pump adaptability.
Use holy or bleed, also summon the 4 guys with the shields. They take all the agro and you can heal them with spells. Then just shoot him with bleed/holy
Since I found trying to dodge roll the long range charge inconsistent, I ended up always running jumping to the side instead. Works consistently when timed right. If the charge started up close meanwhile dodge roll is consistent.
The charge 💀
Miyazaki yes!
All the internet seems to hate this dude, but i actually had fun fighting him, storm blade is all it takes
The moment I first walked into his boss chamber it was something straight out of a movie. I didn't rest at the grace because I just didn't want to and was running at half flasks. I walked onto the field trying to ascertain what the place was. I then remembered all the footage I have seen of this boss fight and realized what it was. I tried rushing back to the room but it was too late, the boss healthbar had appeared and I was about to feel the wrath of Gaius's galactic drill 3000.
It s a DS2 reference , and I love it . A boss isn t a boss if they don t kill you a dozen times , do you really wan t to first try them and feel hollow afterwards ?
Daaamn you take half health from that gallop? I just die 😊
This first boss in the DLC where I almost had to use a summon to beat.
Holy shit, someone actually using a shield 🤯
You can fight him on horseback and jump most of his attacks
FYI: You can actualy evade the charge by evading in the upper right direction.
you have to change the direction your rolling to opposite to the one your walking to
We love you Miyazaki!!!❤❤❤🎉😂
Raptor of the mists can help with the charge, if you’re able to use that
Where's that opening clip from? XD
You just earned yourself a new sub
The attacks are dodgable and properly telegraphed, he starts each attempt with the charge so after getting hit by it enough times you should easily be able to get the timing down
I liked him more than base game Radahn, cool boss
You need a greatshield, preferably with the greatshield talisman to block him effectively
No no no no you want barricade or the spell that makes shields harder. That talisman you're talking about only seems to make a decent diff on shields that are not great. For example the finger print shield gets next to no buff from it.
I beat him after about 6 tries. Not once did I successfully dodge his charge.
He’s like stupid easy if you stick to the fog gate and bait him to stay in that vicinity for some up close combat
Awesome edit dude, keep it up
This dlc repeatedly shows the benefits of a greatshield you do the backflip on his charge and don’t lose tons of stamina.
Scadutree blast did literally no damage after it had previously 1 shotted me.
Flame knights stagger on each riposte and do little tick damage.
This boss and the final one were the only 2 that gave me problems.
It really is something.
one of the times i fought him my mimic killed him but it was so late in my death animation that it didn't count lol
Damn they added pig physics
It took me 20 tries to figure out that you can just use bloodhound step😂
literally how do you avoid his attacks, they're fucking perfectly paced to always hit you no matter what
They just need to remove or nerf the tracking of the charge. All the other attacks are manageable. But when you get knocked down to a shoddy hitbox and he charges and charges and charges again, it becomes pure misery.
You know I actually had a fun time fighting this goofy albinuric
FWIW Windy Crystal Tear carried me through this fight. You can dodge straight through his charge attack with it active
Or just time your dodge well and medium roll *me*
That actor at the beginning looked so familiar. Then I realised its the therapist/curator from Until Dawn!
They seem to have changed this boss, he rides in from the far left side of the arena now, giving you loads of time to prep/buff. Also bloodhound’s step helps with the charge if you sweep directly to the side of the attack. I’m probs in the minority of people who don’t hate this fight. I mean it’s not great but at the same time it’s not horrible.
Tips for this boss: guard counter and holy damage, mimic tears or aggressive soul summon, this boss takes you back to basics like dark souls 1. I beat him with finger shield and heavy lordsworn straight sword with flame spear ash of war.
Light roll, thats all you need in this fight.
Took me 30 minutes to kill him with dual longswords
