The Mayans did not predict the end of the world in 2012. What they did predict in 2012 was the end of the long count, which was to herald the dawn of a new era, and was to be celebrated. In fact, in the Yucatán Peninsula, they actually held celebratory festivities on December 21st 2012, to herald the arrival of the new age.

Ironic, considering that, what is now the Yucatan Peninsula, was; 'Ground Zero', for the cataclysm that was the 'Extinction Event' for the dinosaurs, 66 million years ago!

Its even named after the town that's was built more or less in the center of the old crater. The so called 'Chixiclub Impactor'. ☄️

2012 movie logic:
Charlie said that everyone who tried to tell people the truth about the 2012 apocalypse got killed, but somehow, Charlie has more information than most scientists in the movie and has a radio program telling people all about it, but he's still alive.
Also, if he has all that information about the map for the arks (spaceships) and what will happen, he could just publish it online, because once it's on the internet, it's impossible to remove.
He’s alive cause people look at him crazy and don’t believe him lmao. He’s not some high government official so why would they kill him? If nobody believes him keep him and let that whole idea sounds crazy to the majority.

Charlie isn't a government official, he's a conspiracy theorist, and irl, conspiracy theorists are seen mostly as crazy and people don't believe them, and their sources are questionable, so the government wouldn't spend time to track them down.
But here, Charlie had very accurate information, and since in the movie everyone who knew about the impeding apocalypse were killed, Charlie could be on a government watchlist for his information, where someone from the government could force him to shut his blog down.
And regarding the spaceships, if he did post it online, then he definitely would be on a watchlist and be hunt down, and the government could try to erase the map from the internet, but, people who are avid listeners of Charlie could download the map and spread it around anonymously, so it would be pretty hard to erase from the internet. "But people wouldn't believe the map", well, that is until the world started falling apart and they saw the map, they could download it and find a way to arrive at the place where the spaceships are.
But, in this movie, it's a cartoon world with cartoon logic, so, logical sense doesn't really apply and everything is exaggerated. So, a conspiracy theorist having very accurate information from an apocalyptic event and not be hunt down is the least of your worries, when you have a fictional world where land is falling apart in very unrealistic ways.
The government can only keep tabs on the ones that they control. The ones that are inside the system knowing about the plan, the scientists, the commanders.
They can't keep track of every single citizens, especially people reporting on the radio.
It’s about credibility, people have always been saying the world will end. When a major figure comes out and says it, it’s different.
Probably because the government thinks he’s just another of those wackos saying the end is near, not a credible source.

Truthy movie... the whole 2012 date thing was silly but we do live on an accident prone planet. The Andes Mountains have risen a mile into the air in the time since human agriculture began. Why else would there be man made agricultural terraces above the permanent snowline in the Andes? And the islands off the Siberian coastline which are made of piled up tree limbs and wooly mammoth carcasses sure suggest that some force of nature scoured the face of the earth in the not too distant past. It's no wonder that there are entire underground cities in the mountains of Turkey and that Europe is riddled with endless miles of underground caves.
Indeed, and modern science speaks of these things either in the most mundane way, or have no idea why these things are the way they are.

Sometimes when I watch a movie (more specifically Marvel movies) I get some important details completely wrong. 4 example in endgame when Doctor Strange and the other wizards brought back the heroes when they were snapped back, I thought those were versions of them from before they were snapped. And in NWH I thought everyone including Peter would forget who Peter was, so I thought he was gonna have amnesia XD.
