Hard to say. But that one leg where you had special vfr and were flying through the mountains in barely Vmc. That was insane! But this series was epic and lot of good laughs too. Thanks for sharing that with the community and glad it all went well.
Really appreciate the effort you put into the videos in every phase of flight, and educating on all safety aspects. Everyone can learn from that. Keep up the great work.
Completely confused chaps. This sequence is all out of order. I'd like to see the start of your journey back to Alaska, and not start halfway through which then reverts to something totally different. It would be nice to see continuity between each episode
Chris: Great flight with you and Daniel. I especially enjoyed your explanation of the new instruments. Looking forward to your next video (s) ! Quite an epic adventure.
Everything about this journey just works. The obvious friendship, the upgrade, planning, beautiful views, and the personal component of missing your family. That said, what strikes me the most is this was all accomplished in a trusty 172! Thank you for all you do......
Nice flight - glad the new panel / instruments are working out so good. Makes life / flying so much 'better' then the old style ones. Hope everyone is doing well. Take care - Be safe.
I had a friend that would almost always run out of gas! One night he was in his 180 and flying in icing conditions and. Ice blocked the vent and the bladder bottoms moved up and stopped the floats from reading the real fuel in the bladder. He did experience that dreaded "Deafening Silence!". Love your videos! Thanks!
I've totally loved this series. I have been up the ALCAN many times in on a motorcycle three trips and in a pickup truck many more times. That trip never gets old for me. I grew up with my dad being a pilot and eventually a Helicopter pilot. He loves helicopter flight (so do I honestly) I never have been able to get my pilots license all these years later. So I've set a goal after watching several aviation channels, yours being one of the main ones, to get my license in the next few years. Thanks for posting great videos and keeping me interested in getting to that goal...
Thanks for sharing your trip! I've binge watched the whole list during the last week now that I'm thinking to take flying lessons. Congrats from Spain!
Your ATC bill would be from NAV Canada which is a private company that runs the whole air traffic system in Canada. Transport Canada just handles the regulatory part.
Guys: Hello from Calgary Alberta. The time and capital you have invested in upgrading your 172 have transformed an already great aircraft into an even better one. Not only making the aircraft safer and easier to pilot but adding many additional years to its flying. As a pilot and 172 owner seeing the huge change having IFR instrumentation brings has me considering the investment in an IFR rating and equipped aircraft. Want to recognize the exceptional level of airmanship both of you possess and your commitment to quality pilot instruction. So critically important everywhere but especially in Alaska with the number of pilots, reliance as a primary form of transportation, challenging terrain and weather. What I enjoyed most about your trip is a tie between watching you enjoying the large box of Timbits or the large carton of Goldfish :-). Really I enjoyed seeing the level of planning that went into the trip and amount of time spent on site showing and explaining all the physical upgrades. Thanks for including us in your trip it was truly an original, looking forward to seeing more from you.
it.s evident you guy’s spent your money on flying lessons and not on singing lessons. Keep the rubber side down, looks like you had a blast on the trip. Fair winds and blue skys !! RKW
Never say in public that something is inexpensive, else the seller rectify the situation at the first opportunity, and ruin it for the rest of us! 😀 Great video, enjoyed the ride. Like being in the back seat!
Love this channel. Early retirement is so much better when you add aviation! Private cert soon. First airplane on order and on the waiting list for the local GA airport (DVT). Can't wait to make this my 2nd life!
If you're already using ForeFlight why not get a Sentry? Good backup for GPS, ADS-B In and AHRS plus built in CO detector. Might be tough to calibrate the AHRS though because of your nose up attitude on the R/W. Love the landing lights!
Transport Canada is the FAA equivalent in Canada; NAV Canada is the separate organization that provides ATC services and the ones who send the ATC bills
What a great video with an even greater message about ADM! I also love night flights but Ohio is mostly flat lands as well, so no real danger of terrain. We do however have some fairly tall antennas dotted all over to watch out for though. As always thanks for bringing us along with you guys. I also hope you and your family are doing well Chris.
Great video as usual Chris! I have flown long days like that across Canada on the way to and from Alaska. I know one thing for sure, I’m not as good a pilot when I land the last time as I was when I took off in the early morning. Keep up the good work. See you this June for some more flying in a bonanza.
Daniel, thank you for all you do, you clearly do most of the work. It’s sad that Chris appears to take credit for all that you do. Chris sleeps more and Pilots less than you. Stop letting him pretend to know more than you.
Great video! Recently purchased a 1957 Cessna 172 and was curious about upgrading the Pitot tube. Looks like have installed a new one? Curious what all was involved with that.
Interesting @23:37 you can see the exhaust sort of like you see from radials, I am surprised Ihave never seen the exhaust like that from a smaller engine with a muffler.
The landing light appears to be on one side of the aircraft is that correct? If yes, would it be possible to have landing lights on both sides? Great video and it shows a way of building flight time fast. Lastly, roughly how many gallons of gas did you get for the entire journey?
Hey...but...at the takeoff, in external visual, you are sit down on right side... XD Hi Chris, i follow you from Italy, in a little town near Milan. Sooner or later I will come to Alaska to see you and you will let me take a flight with your 172. I have only an ultralight license but what matters is the love of flying. :-D
I'm curious why your altimeter bounces around so much, especially having just upgraded the panel. Is it an issue with the instrument itself or something else?
Love the review of the engine monitoring and fuel senders. I do have a quick question. If your Cessna has a fuel valve with BOTH, why did you choose to manage the fuel in each tank manually? Just for my own information and wanting to learn. I just bought my own 172 and would love the perspective.
I notice you have a SIRS Navigator compass on your windshield. Where may I ask did you get the adapter to install it on the Cessna bracket? I've been looking for one for several weeks for mine.
why does the plane's nose seem pretty high from the ground and the tail about to get too close to it? I even wonder if it gets worse with weights on the passenger seats..
What did you enjoy most about the trip? COMMENT BELOW

I liked your practical use of Garmin 275, fuel management , Crew coordination on this long flight. Well done there.
Not the singing!

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.
You are showing the utility of General Aviation!! Great series:)
Lot of guts in taking a 145hp bird from the 60s through such high country and terrain. 🙌😲
Very careful planning.
Indeed, that’s super commendable. Thanks for responding and making such excellent content for all of us!
That night leg was insane! This series has me considering a trip up to Alaska to do my instrument with you. That would be cool!
Everything about this journey just works. The obvious friendship, the upgrade, planning, beautiful views, and the personal component of missing your family. That said, what strikes me the most is this was all accomplished in a trusty 172! Thank you for all you do......

I am loving this series of videos. I have watched some of them twice. What an adventure.
I like when cleared to my lady’s Regīna arrival via direct! 😂😅😅😅 KLEER!!!! Lol!
Really enjoyed the night visuals - even the completely dark scenes. And especially the night swamp sounds. Nice flight.
Your pitstop in Josephburg is 5 minutes away from me. I can't wait to start my journey to becoming a Private pilot.

@@angleofattack Oh, I did fly with him many times, always very interesting! You just got a love flying!

Sweet… looking like a fun trip… love your new avionics
Chris, Great job on the video. You guys are really putting it to it here.
#1 and enjoyed the last one regarding the upgraded panel
Nice - we appreciate the shout out
Of course!
Outstanding!
This series is the bees knees
That was some very nice flying and scenery.

Going to be starting my PPL at that tiny Josephburg airport this week. Wish me luck.

Good to know!
@@angleofattack also one thing I forgot to mention; it’s not a pay per use charge. It’s a quarterly fee that aircraft owners pay. Even for us.
Woo, been waiting for this!
Outstanding

1:47 Chris Palmer should have done that..
Enjoying this next chapter. If we see you at the GAAG in Palmer, we'll give a wave. Will be there Saturday, hoping for good flying weather. N29356.
N2423U is known as the little airplane that could :D

Our particular model has a requirement to switch at 5K. There’s a design flaw in the system that causes one tank to draw more than the other.
Did you end up finding some Tim Bits?
Am I the only one asking about the difficulties of toilet breaks? 😂
Great flight and love the interaction between the two of you. Yeah, night flying if cool, any worries about single engine at night?
Great update. How are you going to beat this.....paint job lol? Great CRM
Some day!
Doing ifr cross country sweet

Don't you have to fill out a 'Cross Country" worksheet?
Canadian ATC system is privatized and that might explain why they charge for the service.
Ah. I thought it was the government.
@5:07 What is with this weird road design? Google Earth had me asking more questions.
I can almost drive Regina to GP in a legal 13hr day in my KW. Mind you, I DO have 500hp and enough fuel for the entire trip on board.🤣
using mph? not knots??
Could you share the capacity of your fuel tanks? Thanks
i enjoyed the flight! but i was curious why not just leave the tanks on both?
Apparently that model has a design flaw that drains one tank faster than the other.
Touch screen is great until you hit bumps 😂
nice.. is it me or at the beginning when it's on the ground it seems really tail heavy?
It’s the nosewheel. Same size as the main wheels.
@@angleofattack ahhh ok. just looked weird. never thought of that :D
What’s the max distance on that thing. ? Can it make it from Minneapolis to Phoenix in one go?
Nah. Not in one go.
@@angleofattack would app would I use to calculate flight time with a 172? I’ve been obsessed with learning how to fly. Discovery flight next week
11:28 minutes. That’s how long this whole series has been. 🥱
Ha. Longer than that!
