Hello Daniel thanks for the video I own two Arrarex Caravel and one Little Boni i love the simplicity of it and the quality espresso you can make with it. The caravel does not really need a pid control and it also goes a bit against the design idea. Its kind of funny you prefer it to the Cremina and Pavoni machines its clear to see you love the Caravel. so why would you even bother with the Gaggia anymore?
Good question about why I still use the Gaggia! When making 4 double shot espressos in a row, it is still the fastest, most convenient option. But a part just broke, so it's only levers for now. About the PID: What I love so much about the Caravel is that the basic design is very temperature-stable compared to the Europiccola or the Cremina. And I think that if there is even more precise control over the brew temperature, it would be fun to experiment with different roasts. I don't think that it makes the overall machine much more complex - it's just about replacing the bi-metal switch, which is already broken.
What is your opinion on temperature stability on the caravel? Also do you know what is the max brewing temp? Boiler heatup time? Sorry for too much questions but i'm thinking of getting one and you seem to know a lot!
I actually bought one since my comment here, so i'll just answer my own questions in case anyone is interested. Heatup time to boiling is around 5min (with half a boiler). If you preheat the group and portafilter enough, brewing temp is suprisingly stable. I managed to put a thermometre probe inside the basket (above the puck) and i got 98.5celcius pretty much throughout the shot! That's crazy! 98.5 must be the max i guess - the temp i usually use for medium roast is around 94celcius. It's worth mentioning that for stable temps throughout the shot i had the element on, while for declining profile i switched off the element before preinfusing.
Go Daniel! Love this
I get a lot of coffee machines that I sell on my channel. I would love to have your skills. Compliments
Hi !! Where can I find a portafilter? For this model? Thanks!!
