Johnny your 4th line is actually starting for your AHL team, go to edit strategies when you're in the edit lines screen and you can select what line you want to start games. You have the 4th line selected to be the starting lineup for the games. I don't think it affects the ice time that much but the chat wasn't trolling.
Couple suggestions: (Like so he sees) 1. Check the PK stats for your assistant coach. The assistant coach is responsible for the PK and the better the PK grade is for the assistant the better the PK will simulate 2. We need someone for depth goal scoring on the 3rd line instead of Kerfoot. Someone who can score but also has the ability to help the PK. 3. We need a 6th Defenseman between 80-83 overall that works on the PK and Powerplay

I think acquire a better bottom pairing d man. Move out some younger players that wont crack the top 9 anytime soon for some draft picks. Move Kurtz down to the second line, he'll preform better I think if you shelter him a bit more. My personal change to the lines would be something like. And run that for a few weeks in simulation and see how the team changes. 1: Vesce - Cooley - Kurri 2: Maccelli - Doan - Laine 3: Guenther - Kerfoot - Nabokov 4: Marchand - Gregor - Joshua 1d: Werenski - Chychrun 2d: Kurtz - Lindstein 3d: TRADE PIECE - Kesselring I'd say move Kurtz down because the game sees Werenski as the better player offensively and defensively. So the AI just factors him into the simulation more than it would for Kurtz. And it could hinder his progression. Cuz to be brutally honest, he's only an 82 with no x factors in his D+3 year? When he started as a 78... +4 overall in his 3rd season. (So he's had 2 off seasons) He should be 84 by now, And not going to lie, Guenther is probably going to remain capped at an 85/86 player. Which I said in like episode 2. Trade him while his value is high, acquire draft picks or picks and a 3rd liner center of the future. You need someone young that also takes faceoffs. None of your younger centers are good on the draws.
I love the addition of the one period of gameplay in the first preseason game. It's fun, hilarious, and a nice little change of pace. I say do it once at the beginning of every season!
The trade you did for Lindstein is exactly what you have to keep doing because we don’t have any first round picks to blow it up. Step by step keep adding to this team & it’s going on deep cup runs

Plus if St. Louis held on to him and didn’t sign him they would get a 1st 2nd and 3rd atleast in compensation.

I’d like to see you swap Guenther and Macceli just for a month or 2 to see if anything improves. I still believe Guenther can hit 88+ ovr with some good statistical seasons. If you put Macceli on the second pp that’s fine, but don’t neglect what Guenther has done 5v5 thus far. Reward him. I also think you should call up Karpotsev now that he’s NHL ready and listed as a 4th liner.
Screwing around in preseason is a GREAT way of creating cool storylines for the season.. there should be a whole episode nest season of preseason play to establish lore for the upcoming season.. also fun to watch Johnny actually play lol
It's worth looking into your Assistant and associate Coaches, you might want to get guys who could have higher ratings for the Penalty kill, and powerplay. I imagine, if your current guy only has like a C, or even B, the penalty kill should improve, and the powerplay could get even better.
Honestly the whole chemistry system has always seemed hit and miss for me so seeing Johnny take us through the lindstein trade with chemistry in mind is cool. Makes things actually make sense
I’ve seen players grow different gold x-factors in games before so there is hope that Cooley’s spin-o-rama could change as long as he keeps producing. I figure once that happens, you’ll see Vesce’s numbers spike.
Hey johnny I would consider moving guenther on the first line instead of maccelli .. The hitting of guenther and his passing skills will give more opportunity for vesce to score. I would give more PK minutes to marchand .Give him more minutes , he simulate so well ... will improve the PK I would have my D-core like this (chycrun - kurtz ..... lindstein - werenski)... It would give more opportunity to score to werenski and put chycrun in a better defensive position. Finally, need to upgrade that 3rd pair ... Cup contender team would often get a really good d-men to put on their 3rd pair. Love the content , You missed the fact that the last playoff , 6 of the 7 canadian teams made the playoff (not ottawa) That's insane !!
If your trying to win this year trade for Drew Doughty. You just saw the Capitals win with all the old players. You need more poise on the Blue Line. He can be on the 3rd pairing and do PK with his X factors. Retain half and rent his experience for a year! It’s what Utah needs to get over the edge. More gameplay where you play yourself for sure, could easily play some non-important games during the season too. Also, Brandsegg-Nygård is Norwegian, it's pretty common to give your child both surnames there.
Hey Johnny, loving the series so far! I think a key issue right now is that your first line are all minuses. Perhaps the PLY-PLY-PWF combo is leaving the defense lacking right now. Kurri might be a good fit on the 1st line, but you mentioned targeting an 85-86 OVR forward for your 3rd line C - why not target an 85-86 OVR TWF LW to slot in instead of Maccelli, if the chemistry works?
How does johnny do it when he can control startegies when he goes into a game to watch it? What do you have to change in settings if you want to be able to change lines and tactics while in a live game?
