I agree, however the movie’s main criticism of bad stigma of the illness DID does annoy me, but fictionally its a good film, and he’s of course great in it, scary as well - tho this is also a problem (showing DID people should be feared and are inherently dangerous).
How in the hell is _Split_ only at number 3? Sure, his performance in _Atonement_ might have earned him a Golden Globe nomination, but I feel _Split_ is the film that shows him at his most fearless, so to speak, which I think matters more than anything.

I can't believe I cried at the ending of Filth when he plays on paper such an unlikeable character. That shows James' ability as an actor to give the character range and depth.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby- HIM It’s slightly different delivery, particularly when he gets hit by the bus (taxi? I can’t remember) and when they talk at the apartment in the end. My absolute FAVORITE scenes and they didn’t include them in the combined movie. 😔
@dianaog67 the combined movie was only made on the studio's insistence to be released in theaters as one movie. The actual thing is to watch the his version followed by her version and be the judge yourself. That's the way they intended for it to be seen. What a beautiful piece of art!!

Hell yes, I agree with the top five in exactly the same order. Given what little time is spent with Robbie and Cecelia together, the intensity of their connection still sells absolutely. I think why McAvoy's characters are so charismatic is due to his ability to play them vulnerably, making his Robbie right on the dime, and every other character he plays in the top five utterly proves it.
McAvoy as Macbeth in BBC's Shakespeare retold was one of the most terrifying things I've ever witnessed, I'd say that deserves to be somewhere in the top ten even if it's a bit lesser known
As much as I loved him in "Atonement", "Split" is his best performance, followed very closely by "Filth", which made me put him on my Top 3 favourite actors (and that's not easy). Charles Xavier would have to be a much more impressive character to win from those other 2 performances.
Unfortunately i didn't feel any chemistry with him and Anne in Jane . the same he had with Keira in Atonement. He's a marvelous actor tho and has many astonishing films

Bruce Robertson is objectively his best performance. Nothing else even comes close. It's one of the best performances ever tbh.

Good choice with McAvoy. Have but of a crush but speaking transparently he's brilliant. He can play all sorts of roles and the other great thing about him, he doesn't mind playing second fiddle if the role is right, especially to a woman.
