  • We take the Ford Everest 4WD and Toyota Landcruiser 200 to explore some of the Catherine Hill Bay Area on the NSW Central Coast. A bit of winching action and some beautiful scenery made for a great day out exploring with the family.

What model Everest do you have sir?
Thank you for these videos. It's truly inspiring to see how you and your family appreciate the outdoors. Also really helped me in my decision to now get an Everest

Was up there last weds in my Coily Zook with a mate with a Hummer H3. Great fun, tho i'll be more confident on some tracks with a little lift and proper a/t tyres...

Yeah it’s a fun spot. Did you get down to the rock shelf? The Hummer would have been interesting

@@braydenhowie We did get down to the shelf. Hummer was having no trouble. We got to a spot that was a little too high for me to make, but he went up it with no trouble, did a U-turn and came back down just to see if he could. Its runnning 33's to my current 27's.
Will head back when my lift goes in and possibly get some 29" A/T's.

Thanks mate. Suspension is lifted 2in. I haven’t done anything with the fuel tank, but the guard is mostly missing now. The tank itself is strong and flexible - so far no issues

I hope you used a tree saver when you were winching and not killing the trees. Get a recovery kit and do it properly. Tracks get closed because of environmental damage caused by 4wders not doing the right thing.

Thanks for your concern, but yes I have a full recovery kit and a tree trunk protector was used

get a Prado, you'll never need a winch. this is not that hard of a climb for a proper 4x4. I have a 1997 Prado , climbs steeps like this at ease. never ever got stuck in my 10 years of driving it.

    • @braydenhowie

Yeah, nah. If you have a Prado that's never needed a winch, you simply haven't been driving it hard enough... As for this rock step, the vehicle was hung up on a recovery point - this is a clearance issue only. We could have packed it and it would have climbed fine, but the rear was precariously perched on a very loose edge with enough of a drop to roll the vehicle. So the winch was used for safety. The hardest part of a large rock step is bringing the rear wheels up - you can see in the video that it did that part on its own. I know the Prado well and like it - but off road there is actually very little in it between the Prado and the Everest. But you're welcome to your opinion.

Prados are an an awkward offspring of a proper landcruiser and a Mitsubishi Mirage. Prados are IFS they will always be more limited off-road. Just as the Everest will be. Having A GU Patrol myself I haven't gotten stuck yet. But I know I will, if you never get stuck your not trying hard enough. I would argue a "proper" 4wd has dual live axles, but each to their own ;)
