Last month I purchased a Precious Moments soft doll made by applause. I was cleaning the doll and trying to fix his nightcap for a photo and it wasn’t cooperating! I was going to remove the cardboard in his cap (sewn in each corner) I was able to get a few fingers inside the cap and it didn’t feel like cardboard! To my shock I started pulling $20 dollar bills totaling $160.00. So now I check all picture frames and anything else that could be a hiding spot! It was a fun shocking surprise !
I found $780 throughout my mom’s house when I cleaned it out. I still wonder about the money I’m sure I DIDN’T find. I’m sure there was some. Found it inside figurines, between plates of her wedding china, between pages of her oldest bible, in the base of her Grandfather’s clock…… we had to check everything. I even found a filled jewelry box under a vent cover, in an air vent. 🙄
My 3 daughters wanted Cabbage Patch dolls for Christmas back in the 80's. I was a single parent at that time and money was very tight. It was cheaper for me to send money to my auntie in Canada to buy the dolls and send them back to the UK. My girls were very happy that Christmas.
Alexander, the orange big clock ⏰ you found, I had the EXACT clock through my teenage years. I’m 70 now! The alarm on that clock could wake someone on the other side of the world. It’s alarming… Lol ♥️

As a set dresser and the head of props for our local Little Theatre, all of those produce cans and spice jars that have no barcodes on them are things I am always on the lookout for.
I never understand the hubris of people who have nothing to do with the process feel it is their responsibility to tell others what to do with their salvage.
I’ve mentioned this before and I know you hate wearing a GoPro but if if you put one on a tripod in the doorway or something while you go through with both hands, your audience can watch the process and it will go much faster. I so enjoy watching you do these clean outs. It cures my desire to go buy a bunch of junk myself. Lol😂
Alex, the demand is high for ephemera. All old books, old cookbooks, old stamps, old checks, old bills, anything paper that can be used to make junk journals. Thank you for bringing us along on your trips through these clean outs!
I'm so jealous and wanted to be there helping you! This is definitely my jam!! Several years ago, 15-20, I went through an old house that nobody had lived in for 20 years & was full of stuff from the time the house was built in the 1930's! The same family owned it from the beginning & from years to years a different generation of the family would live there for a short time and then move out leaving all their stuff behind. The last family members who lived there, put a big sign on the front door "DO NOT ENTER, CONDEMNED BY DEMONS!" So of course, I found out about the first Castor family who built the house & what the scoop was. Turned out the 1930's grandma was "crazy" and unalived a grandkid or two & unmanned one, hence the big sign on the front door. This didn't bother me in the least, bec I have Jesus in my heart and even the devil is afraid of God. Anyhoo, I found the best stuff! Jewelry, a Sr ring from 1893, postcards, money, and handmade quilts from the 1800's... The list is long, just like this home, and I loved every second!

I was fascinated to see Reckitt Blue on the side of the box. For the viewers Reckitts produced the little blue bags that went into the washing to make the whites whiter. Reckitts were in Hull UK, they are one of my ancestors. Originally Reckitt then became Reckitt and Coleman now Reckitt Benckiser
Isaac Reckitt started the business in 1840, producing starch. It is amazing when you read the history of the company how many of the domestic cleaning products they started. They became Reckitt and Coleman in 1938.
The amount of work you have ahead of you but I really enjoy these types of episodes with you. I remember clearing out my parent's 3600 sq foot, 4 car garage, tack shed (horses), and exercise barn.. and my mom had been working on clearing out before she passed. House was not a hoarder's house, just big and full. I'd work for 4 hours or so, go home thinking I'd done a lot, and go back the next day and realize it didn't look like I'd touched anything. We ended up just picking what we wanted to keep and calling in an auction house (Mom had done the same thing with her parent's home and it worked well).
Alex, seniors homes are in desperate need of clothing donations. Seniors literally cannot afford to buy cloths due to their fixed incomes. A lot of little old ladies could use the clothing.
I do love your clearance vids. I know it is business, but it is also a needed service for families who are too far away to do it, or emotionally can't face doing it. That Call of the Wild book was probably from the 1960's when Grosset and Dunlop changed from books with dust jackets to printed picture covers. The date of 1931 is for the version of the story not when it was printed. I am a collector of Nancy Drew books also from Grosset and Dunlop and this was standard procedure for them.
The Call of the Wild book only has value if the condition is decent and it has the slipcase. If all other books on the shelves were binned because of mice, this book may be worthless. I'd previously told Alex the book was worth CAD165, but that's for a pristine copy.

My mother and her siblings pinned money into the sleeves of their coats and we found so much in the pockets of their clothes. I think it stemmed from the days of Depression in the USA. We never knew what we would find.
This old guy saved tons of his used dinner napkins,and his family thought it was gross and threw them out,then they seen him hiding his money in them,never would I have thought to look between them either,and they found $500.00 twice stuffed in books,and $1,600.00 in a pants pocket.

Do people who say “it never hurts to ask” ever think about the phrase “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”? The latter is typically not seen as a good thing, which would seem to undercut the truth of the former phrase.
There’s not a snowball’s chance that they will give anyone free parking. The U of A also controls the parking for the cancer hospital and even the cancer patients have to pay about $20+ a day for their parking.

Also look underside of drawers. My grandparents had thousands taped in bags there. Thankfully my dad was aware and even found money stashed in a chimney hidey hole and in their oven. I miss my grandparents. They had the best old house. Along with a butlers pantry we were allowed to play in and eat sweet biscuits we "found" hehe

The Corning ware handle is to put on any corning ware casserole that has the section that comes out on the side so that you can use it on top of the stove as a pan and they make those handles in various sizes
* 1978 was before you were born ! The wife and I being born in 62 and 57 respectfully were thinking " God He's So Young ! " Then we realized that's not it , it's that " We Are So Old !!! " 😮
The Cabbage Patch Kids - as usual, once they are out of their box they are worth less. However, if you can find the "adoption papers/birth certificates for the doll, that pushes their value up again. There is definitely a market for them in the UK, and the USA. Beanie Babies, not so much any more, although if you find Beanie Baby Kids, they are very popular as first dolls for toddlers these days.
My dad worked for Sears when Cabbage Patch dolls came out. He was able to get me one. I’m almost 70 and I remember that my Cabbage Patch doll was named Deva Elizabeta. I still have my doll but I’ve changed her clothes. She means nothing to anyone except me. My dad cared even though I was an adult!
I sure wish someone like you & your family would have been in my area when my Mom passed. She had a packed 3 bedroom house full of home shopping boxes never opened 😢 really. It took me months to clear out her home. I’ve vowed to myself, never to do that when I become older, because it was such a burden. Trying to find places to take ALL of the STUFF!
Well done for keeping going getting it cleared. I will never forget the number of medication bottles we found in my grandmother's house, specifically her handbags 🤣 she had a handbag for every outfit colour & each had some of the essentials that she might need to save moving them from one to another 🙈 we got funny looks at the pharmacies when dropping off & were often back the following week as we would find more. My mum was similar to you that she vowed to not leave me with a similar mess but my dad hasn't quite got the same memo so I'm trying to get him to work through his stashes of wood and metal & car parts

The rectangular Pyrex with the glass lid is bakeware. It's beautiful and yes it can also be put in the Refrigerator because the glass is tempered. Beautiful stuff.
Noticed some Pyrex measuring cups in lower cabinet, but didn’t notice whether you tossed them in garbage or not. You may already know this: if PYREX is all in caps, those are the older ones with borosilicate glass. Those are better than the ones made today. They are hard to find in Michigan, and have a decent resale value.

Most canned, bottled, even boxed foods has so many preservatives in them that unless the tops are bulging, they are good for up to ten years after expiration date

I got a couple of those Corning handles when I was first married (1976). I used them so rarely, that I got rid of them at some point. I love that old 1952 cookbook. I learned to cook from Mom’s 1950 Betty Crocker cookbook, and got my grandmother’s when she passed.
Don't poo poo the shopping channels boxes/ packages! They may be some jewelry in there! When my mother passed, we had a whole queen size bed loaded with jewelry. We went around the room, 5 of us kids, and asked who wanted what. Now, mind you, I sold fine jewelry in the past, so know a little about it! My brothers and sister poo pood most of the jewelry, so I made out like a bandit! I knew mom had bought a lot of jewelry through shopping channels, but she didn't buy junk! Real gem stones and diamonds set in either 10k or 14k. I even have some rare Burmese rubies set in 14k. Also, some green pearls from our great great grandmother! I'm just glad I know my jewelry! 😊

Its a University and it has nothing to do with the restricted parking, that is all the city and they will not give anything to help out anyone.

Our local area will sell tradesmen a builders permit if they need to park in order to carry out works. It may be the same where this is.

Also look underside of drawers. My grandparents had thousands taped in bags there. Thankfully my dad was aware and even found money stashed in a chimney hidey hole and in their oven. I miss my grandparents. They had the best old house. Along with a butlers pantry we were allowed to play in and eat sweet biscuits we "found" hehe

You seem like such a kind and generous person with an unbelievable work ethic.I don't normally comment on UA-cam videos, but I just had to in this case. But bless your heart, Alex, why don't you make this work easier for yourself by using totes or boxes as you sort through stuff instead of making piles. Limit the times you handle the stuff. One for keep or review closer, one for donate, one for trash, eat. Seems like it would make things easier for you. Keep up the great work and bringing us great videos. 😀

The Corning ware handle is to put on any corning ware casserole that has the section that comes out on the side so that you can use it on top of the stove as a pan and they make those handles in various sizes
* 1978 was before you were born ! The wife and I being born in 62 and 57 respectfully were thinking " God He's So Young ! " Then we realized that's not it , it's that " We Are So Old !!! " 😮
The Cabbage Patch Kids - as usual, once they are out of their box they are worth less. However, if you can find the "adoption papers/birth certificates for the doll, that pushes their value up again. There is definitely a market for them in the UK, and the USA. Beanie Babies, not so much any more, although if you find Beanie Baby Kids, they are very popular as first dolls for toddlers these days.
My dad worked for Sears when Cabbage Patch dolls came out. He was able to get me one. I’m almost 70 and I remember that my Cabbage Patch doll was named Deva Elizabeta. I still have my doll but I’ve changed her clothes. She means nothing to anyone except me. My dad cared even though I was an adult!
Oh, boy-I wanted those old kitchen utensils, like the fish turner! And the buttons and scissors! So much fun stuff.

I sure wish someone like you & your family would have been in my area when my Mom passed. She had a packed 3 bedroom house full of home shopping boxes never opened 😢 really. It took me months to clear out her home. I’ve vowed to myself, never to do that when I become older, because it was such a burden. Trying to find places to take ALL of the STUFF!
Well done for keeping going getting it cleared. I will never forget the number of medication bottles we found in my grandmother's house, specifically her handbags 🤣 she had a handbag for every outfit colour & each had some of the essentials that she might need to save moving them from one to another 🙈 we got funny looks at the pharmacies when dropping off & were often back the following week as we would find more. My mum was similar to you that she vowed to not leave me with a similar mess but my dad hasn't quite got the same memo so I'm trying to get him to work through his stashes of wood and metal & car parts

The rectangular Pyrex with the glass lid is bakeware. It's beautiful and yes it can also be put in the Refrigerator because the glass is tempered. Beautiful stuff.
I stayed at a Thunderbird Motel at Niagra Falls, on the Canadian side, in the early 1990s. It looked like it’s been there since the 1950s.

I took a couple old mattress toppers and made them into dog beds for my old dogs. I used baby mattress water resistant sheets to cover them with.
Noticed some Pyrex measuring cups in lower cabinet, but didn’t notice whether you tossed them in garbage or not. You may already know this: if PYREX is all in caps, those are the older ones with borosilicate glass. Those are better than the ones made today. They are hard to find in Michigan, and have a decent resale value.

You should invest in a body cam or head cam. Would give you such easy access when not holding onto a camera or phone the whole time.

Most canned, bottled, even boxed foods has so many preservatives in them that unless the tops are bulging, they are good for up to ten years after expiration date

I got a couple of those Corning handles when I was first married (1976). I used them so rarely, that I got rid of them at some point. I love that old 1952 cookbook. I learned to cook from Mom’s 1950 Betty Crocker cookbook, and got my grandmother’s when she passed.
Don't poo poo the shopping channels boxes/ packages! They may be some jewelry in there! When my mother passed, we had a whole queen size bed loaded with jewelry. We went around the room, 5 of us kids, and asked who wanted what. Now, mind you, I sold fine jewelry in the past, so know a little about it! My brothers and sister poo pood most of the jewelry, so I made out like a bandit! I knew mom had bought a lot of jewelry through shopping channels, but she didn't buy junk! Real gem stones and diamonds set in either 10k or 14k. I even have some rare Burmese rubies set in 14k. Also, some green pearls from our great great grandmother! I'm just glad I know my jewelry! 😊
