This always makes me incredibly emottional. I imagine my character from gw1 seeing Ascalon in gw2, and how it changed. She's used to a dead, charred world, full of hatred and violence. Now, she sees a beautiful place, a land restored to its former speldor, in full autumn - just like on that fateful day of the searing. She sees human children and charr cubs playing together. She realized she doesn't belong in this place anymore.
But then, BOOM! A wild flying purple electric chicken flys in out of nowhere and makes the land all dark and horrible again. This time the land has a new type of crystal instead of searing crystals. Branded crystals.
I just started gw1 recently and I'm thinking about the same thing. I wanted to create a charr version of my gw1 toon as her reincarnation but I figured it might be too cruel
I heard this years ago when the game was new and knew I found my game. It was dusk and the fireflies came out right when this started playing for the first time as I explored the forests and fields of Ascalon. It was magic.
I finally found it! I first came upon this track while questing in Fields of Ruin and whatever I was doing at that point become secondary. I just had to pause to listen to this music, taking it all in. I never played Guild Wars, but whenever this music plays and I see the broken wall of Ascalon, it kind of makes me sad. Beautiful piece of music!
My favorite race is by far the Charr, but if you played the original GW it makes Ascalon bittersweet. You start in a verdant land of forests and plains and after a few hours it crumbles and burns and you realize that it was all just a tutorial. The next 1/5 of the game is just trying to save as many people as you can from the Charr onslaught and a hardheaded king.
GW2 is the only MMO I've ever played that I left the music on. This song is the one that inspired me to see if I could actually find the soundtrack which of course I did here on youtube. I listen to it a lot since my work can be stressful. Thank you Jeremy Soule for bringing acoustic solace to my soul!
My friend made me play this game for the first time about 5 years ago, i only played for a week or two but the soundtrack made me come back this year... i just couldn't brush off the memory of that friend walking me around ascalon while this specific song was playing in the background now gw2 is one of my favorite games ever lol
hits hard if u played guild wars prophecies, looking at the broken wall just brought me back to years ago dicking around in the pre searing with a few friends i didnt know. i was terrible at gw1 so i would never go into the post searing, just an endless sunny afternoon. player numbers were low there as well so it really captured the feeling of dread and loneliness whenever i went to post searing ascalon. this track captured my feelings perfectly though. it is peaceful and nostalgic in a way like the pre searing, but the skeleton of ascalon still looms. its kinda unsettling, especially with all the human ghosts attacking anything in sight. tldr good game, good song
Ascalon will never be restored. It was somehow peaceful back then before the Searing. Not perfect, but a good place to live on earth, with dark clouds gathering from the north. Sad and nostalgic era, 2012 and 2005 seem so far away. Emotional song.
Ascalon has a special place in my heart. It was the place Guild Wars Prophecies started with the Charr invading your home country and the remnants of the human empire falling apart under the savage attacks of the Charr legions. Desperately trying to defend the capital and surrounding villages the Great Wall fell and the shamans brought hell and destruction down upon the capital.
@@AlgaInventory Ascalon has always been home to the charr. The humans invaded Ascalon and the human king Balthazar gave them the means necessary to reclaim what's theirs. King Adelbern had it coming and deserved what he got.
So much nostalgia! I love Ascalon and the soundtrack there. I remember as I was walking around with my first character, a charr, and hearing this the first time.
I first heard this when I was running around in the plains of Ashford, I was near the great wall and this starts off. Man I got chills and was remided of GW1 instantly.
“I won’t be returning to Guild Wars,” he said. “EverQuest has an exclusive with me for the future projects that involve MMOs. [Guild Wars] was a good experience over many years. As with all good things, it had to come to an end.” ~Jeremy Soule, 2014 It's a shame the guild wars series will never have Jeremy's mind composing its music. Guild Wars' music won't be the same
yes i thought the same and i imidiatly thought about Jeremy soule, this man is such a Legend. The complete original soundtrack is by him and i hope he will do music for gw2 in the future again.
i was running around in ebonhawke when i heard it for the first time its just epic... i stood around there for more then 1 hour in hope to hear ot again and now i found it here GREAT !!!
I had never other character than human for more than few hours, but Ascalon melodies are the best, this and Walls of Ebonhawke. I love 'em so much ♥ : ' ' ) (playing it from 2012)
It's crazy to feel nostalgia for a game that feels like it came out yesterday. But when this song plays for me in Ascalon, a city so important to both games, I get filled with emotion.
Jeremy Soule is the reason Guild Wars is generally better than other RPG's (in my own opinion) I play this game for the music, not just the game play. Thank you Jeremy Soule!
Makes me wonder how epic the Canthan GW2 content soundtrack is going to be, because the GW1 Factions soundtrack had some really amazing tracks - "Weight of the World", "A Land Divided" and the remix version of the Factions theme are a few that come to mind. Always enjoyed hearing the first 2 I mentioned in Fort Aspenwood.
Only when her generation, and all those that remember the dark days are gone, will the world truly be at peace. This is the future, and it belongs to the children of her children.
My theory is that some of these were unreleased or unused tracks originally intended for Skyrim, because this one sounds exactly like Skyrim. If you modded this into Skyrim, no one would even notice.

Everytime I imagine anything from gw1, I want to hurl :S

I heard this while I was playing GW2, I had to stop for a while and take it all in.
+Little Lamp same
+Little Lamp ikr?
i've literally stopped moving about the map to stay still and listen to the song. i agree
I JUST PUT THIS VIDEO ON REPEAT AND MUTED ALL MUSIC AS I MOVED ABOUT
@jake bourret Totally true.
Jeremy Soule doesn't make just music.
This is truly one of the finest pieces of music composed for any game ever.
I dare say one of the finest pieces of music in existence.
I just wish there was a 10 minute version or something
Finally! Every time I'm in Ascalon and this piece comes on, I always have to turn the volume up. It is so hauntingly beautiful!
7 years ago: my first chracter was a charr. Hearing this while exploring plains of ashford for the first time was a beautiful experience
Guild wars 2 has a lot of amazing music but this is the only song where I feel like I'm actually walking through ascalon. Incredible.
I still almost cry to this after a decade. This is very nostalgic for me because my first character was a charr warrior
I heard this years ago when the game was new and knew I found my game. It was dusk and the fireflies came out right when this started playing for the first time as I explored the forests and fields of Ascalon. It was magic.

WORD!! I was the same too yo
That'll teach them, for stealing the lands from the Charrs
martyr's forest is where this theme is right?

charr do what they need to do
but still i feel sad when see ascalon ruin

Single best MMO song in existence. GW2 has an amazing sound track!
After a long, arduous war that left a whole kingdom destroyed, an empire schismed, and a land scarred, the Charr have finally returned home....
Plains of Ashford :)
Every once in a while I play gw2, don't know what to do and I just go into the Charr region because I know this track is going to play. Masterpiece!
Jeremy Soule's music is the definition of majestic. It can take you to other worlds in the blink of an eye.
I just come to Ascalon to hear this music. This is so fantastic.
I know jeremy soule also did skyrim but you can really hear the similarities between both games, both games soundtracks are fantastic
My friend made me play this game for the first time about 5 years ago, i only played for a week or two but the soundtrack made me come back this year... i just couldn't brush off the memory of that friend walking me around ascalon while this specific song was playing in the background

Number 36, "A Land Restored", love this song, it gives me goose bumps when I hear it in game!
its sure does lass!!
After all these years, it still gives me chills.
Reminds me the entrance of Ascalon catacombs at night with all the players waiting and this song playing... so good memories...

Such a tragedy for Ascalonians. Ascalon was and still is my favorite human kingdom ... pity there's not much of it today thanks to those filthy Charrs
@@AlgaInventory Ascalon has always been home to the charr. The humans invaded Ascalon and the human king Balthazar gave them the means necessary to reclaim what's theirs. King Adelbern had it coming and deserved what he got.
I was fishing and chilling in Ascalon at night and this started playing and destroyed me for no reason.
This is honestly one of the most beautiful pieces of music that has ever graced my ears. Thank you, Jeremy soule, you are a gift to humanity
I was looking for this track, so beautiful! This song can calm any beast.
So much nostalgia! I love Ascalon and the soundtrack there. I remember as I was walking around with my first character, a charr, and hearing this the first time.
I remember when I walked in Ascalon with my Canthan warrior for the first time back in 2006. This track gave me a nostalgic feeling
Impossible. This track is from GW2, which was released in 2012. It was NOT in GW1.
perhaps it reminded him ;)
2010 meets 2012 Dich findet man hier also auch? kenn dich von Durden, Bro!
Oh natürlich doch :o
I first heard this when I was running around in the plains of Ashford, I was near the great wall and this starts off. Man I got chills and was remided of GW1 instantly.
Favorite one
Thinking about using this in my up coming wedding!
Definately do that, the track fits brilliantly with it
congratulations!! (so late but still haha)
So what did you used? Lol
Used it for wedding or not?
Give us updates!
This is truly touching.

yes i thought the same and i imidiatly thought about Jeremy soule, this man is such a Legend. The complete original soundtrack is by him and i hope he will do music for gw2 in the future again.

It's the onion-cutting ninjas.
currently i have this nostalgic feels when i started GW2 first time :D its nice.
incredible
One of my favorite song along with the Tengu wall. Beautiful, beautiful Ascalonian theme. As I am a huge fan of Ascalon and their story.
Hearing this song every now and then but nobody completley ignored by most other players
THIS track especially is 100 % pure Soule! :)
Jeremy Soule never disappoints
Jeremy Soule is so inspirational! Thank you.
such an amazing track it should be featured more
Anyone who played Guild Wars 1 will have the feels listening to this. NO.MATTER.WHAT! I sure remember my first time, 5 years ago.
i was running around in ebonhawke when i heard it for the first time
its just epic...
i stood around there for more then 1 hour in hope to hear ot again and now i found it here
GREAT !!!
Gives me chills. Every time.
I didn't stick with GW2 because I am too slow for it, but I come here often to listen to my favorites.
Definitively, it's my favorite.... so beautiful!
this music is amazing, god!!!!
I had never other character than human for more than few hours, but Ascalon melodies are the best, this and Walls of Ebonhawke. I love 'em so much ♥ : ' ' ) (playing it from 2012)

Best OST in GW2

Aaahhh brings back memories. My first character was a charr and playing for the first time was a great experience.
I'm level 42 while writing this and this is my absolute favorite song in the game so far
just dinged 80 got my raptor, came straight back to the char area to celebrate
Jeremy Soule is the reason Guild Wars is generally better than other RPG's (in my own opinion) I play this game for the music, not just the game play. Thank you Jeremy Soule!
At 1:25 it reminds me of The Lord of the Rings
Yes!!!! Found it, so much reminds me of Skyrim. Deffo my fave in game😃
#JeremySoule
Finally I found this song! Right after Orders Unite this is my 2nd favorite song!

Earth, we will win.
I love this song, my favorite is 0:00 at 1:23!
Very Skyrim'esque. I love it.
Ascalon and the Charr forever! Together we can restore our Land. ☺️
I'm crying
This music really so god...
"The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long."
36. A Land Restored - the best soundtrack ever
Jeremy Soule you musical magician...
ill use it in my car
after gym
Song reminds me of Skyrims "From Past and present"
Glory to the Charr!
Guys.. I wanna listen to this when my soul rest in peace ... the other life must be better than this .. I strongly belive in that
I agree. I mean after we die we actually live again, but a better life awaits us. This song sounds so heavenly. Music for the soul.
Sorry to say, but this sounds like romanticizing death, and it's such a joyful song of relief too
After watching Europa: The Last Battle, sometimes this song is one of the few things that gets me through the day. Glory to our Lord Jesus Christ ❤
best track of a soundtrack that is already a hundred times better than TES5's. well done.
Always reminds me of Skyrim. Beautiful song :3 as everything else from Jeremy Soule :)
Soñe con está canción, i dream with this song OMG
beautiful track, dont know what more i could say
Totally agree!
So beautiful...
Oblivion soundtrack when I'm reading, here! Soule's work is just amazing
My theory is that some of these were unreleased or unused tracks originally intended for Skyrim, because this one sounds exactly like Skyrim. If you modded this into Skyrim, no one would even notice.
Unbelievably beautiful. Listening to it...I think I should get the OST now. ^^
Wonderfully worded
Magnifique cette musique :)
very calming
Ah finally :')
After going through 35 songs I found the one i was looking for^^
really I like that song, really tugged at my hearts strings when i finished the game as my sylvari
Skyrim music so nice!
