exactly. big men were taught and trained to be physical and use their body in the 90s-10s, since the perimeter game wasn't as prevalent as it is now, they were the best as they were the biggest and strongest people on the court. as 3 points and iso game evolved, big men were left behind, the last 15 years has just been them adjusting their game to catch up, and they finally have. league is in wraps, big men are back.

In this video itself, he suggesting these 3 bigs are perhaps the 3 best of all-time but ignoring that stats are going crazy because the game changed. If 3 of the highest PERs are in on season, it likely means the game has changed that it's easier for players to rack up statistics. He isn't adjusting for how the game is played.

This Channel has so much recency bias and seems ignôránt of important details. “15 years ago the teams started going with guards”. There were some major rule changes starting in 2004 that opened the game and made it harder for a post only big man. Then around 2014 the nba figured out the 3 was very important so it gave even more value to small ball. Stats the past decade are so padded because the nba removed hand checking and allowed less contact by defensive players. Offensive plays also no revolve around single players much more - That’s why right now there are 2 players at 30pts 11reb 4ast, another at 27pts 13reb 8 ast and guards and SF at 25-30pts 7-10 ast. Westbrook was averaging a triple double for several years and Harden was a 30pts 10ast 8 reb machine. This is a a reflection of rule changes that made offense easier.

Also, Giannis is what Kobe wanted Shaq to be. Had Shaq had worked as hard as Giannis, he would have been the equivalent of Wilt Chamberlain in the 00's. Shaq is actually bigger the Giannis too. The sad part is, back then Shaq didn't need to, so he didn't.

As a kid I watched NBA in 90's and every team had the same formation ( C, PF, SF, SG, PG ). I love and kind of miss 90's basketball. But now I'm getting used to this kind of gameplay. The game evolve so much in those 20 years while I haven't been watching NBA that it was stunning to me. In 90's playmakers never had more rebounds than Centers or PF , now this is normal. Now you have teams who play with players who are almost at the same size, all 5 of them around 6'6 to 6'9. In 90's Centers had to be over 6'11 , PF mostly 6'8 - 6'11 and so on. I'm getting used to the new game styles now and love the game again tho it is very different.

I know stats say wilt was waaaaay better but if wilt played now he would be averaging just as much if not less than Giannis
Wilt played in a time were people couldn’t dribble or shoot the blocks were easy bc no one was good the rebounds were easy bc no one tried to get a rebound over him the points were easy bc everyone sucked at defense
There is no way someone could change my mind on this I truly do believe Giannis is our new wilt

Although what these 3 are doing is amazing...you have to compare it to their eras instead of across eras. In statistics there is something called a z-score. It tells you how well you did relative to your year, class, or whatever demographic you wish to compare. Although what Wilt did was insane, he wouldn't have averaged 50ppg and 26rpg in the 80s and 90s (though I still think he would've been dominant). Efficiency today is easier to achieve because of the rules. The league is less physical with defenses more restrictive than in decades past.

There are guys who had the skill sets who could translate across eras. A lot of those names - Wilt, Hakeem, young Shaq, Ewing could all shoot mid-range and could develop into players with similar skill sets to Giannis and Embiid. Joker's a bit of unicorn -He doesn't have the speed and defense, but his playmaking helps make up for some of it.
