    Inertia + centripetal force creates a centrifugal EFFECT (not a force).

      It is an inertial force. You don't have to avoid the word "force". It behaves identically to one inside rotating reference frames and if you want to reconcile Newton's laws from within a rotating reference frames, you're going to have problems if you do not treat it as a legitimate force. Your clarification is unnecessary.

      @@willoughbykrenzteinburg kind of. Theres no such thing as centrifugal force. Its just inertia with another body exerting a centripetal force redirecting it and keeping it going in a circle

      @@RetroRockGamer "Theres no such thing as centrifugal force" is a categorically false statement. It is a thing. It's an _inertial_ force and is defined as such. I've said this already. It's not "kind of" true. It is absolutely true.

    It’s interesting watching these old episodes, because how teachers treated students was different than today. Obviously, Mr. Wizard is a kind man and passion about teaching science, but unlike today, there is no coddling of the kid’s emotions. Today, if the kids said the roller coaster, scared him, the teacher would say something like “you were very brave.” Nope, not Mr Wizard!

    Thank you Mr wizard throughout the magnificent years as a great teacher and scholar for protecting such values of alloyed metals that offer such structural support to our beloved core but most importantly thank you for protecting all the elements of the periodical chart for our safe inhabitants of the United States of America of a civilian zone separate from a military zone. Thank you for your continued pursuit to your excellence of freedoms of Education. And thank you for being such an excellent teacher all these years respectfully and sincerely

    I forgot all about this show. I used to love it growing up. Now I'm trying to find a kids video to explain to my 7 year old step-daughter what centrifugal force is. But it's 2020 and this video doesn't have enough flashing strobes and explosions to hold her attention.

    At last a video that explains the truth about it. I've seen so many videos saying the inertia is the responsible for keeping the water up (wrong) or that the centripetal force is the one (also wrong). Then I found your video. At the end the water "feels"gravity up, being pushed up by centrifugal force. That is the reason !! If there is no force down, the water has no reason to go down....I loved you video....

      If you swing a ball on a string the ball will "EXERT" a centrifugal force on your hand as a reaction to the the centripetal force exerted by your hand on the ball - basic physics.

    I hate to point this out but a rotating mass EXERTS a centrifugal force, it is not subject to such a force; any decent book on physics will confirm this. If an object was subject to both a centripetal and a centrifugal force, a common misconception, these forces would cancel each other out, thus nothing would rotate. Frank Smith.

    • @franksmith9027
      @franksmith9027 8 років тому +1

      You fail to state why I am confused.

    • @calvinhulburt9188
      @calvinhulburt9188 7 років тому

      You are confused because a centripetal and centrifugal force only exist together and only when a mass is accelerating. The centripetal force is the F in Newton's second law while the centrifugal force is the ma.

    • @franksmith9027
      @franksmith9027 7 років тому

      Thank you for responding. Newton's Third Law states, in effect, that forces go in pairs thus if you have a centripetal force you must have a centrifugal force, however, they will not both be acting on the rotating mass; this is the point I make in my original comment. The formula for the centripetal and centrifugal force is the same since they are equal but act in opposite directions and on different masses.

    • @calvinhulburt9188
      @calvinhulburt9188 7 років тому +1

      No they act on the one rotating mass in accordance with Newton's second law.

    • @franksmith9027
      @franksmith9027 7 років тому

      It is obvious If a centripetal force and a centrifugal force act on the same mass they will cancel each out and equate to no force at all.

  • @Kaijuus

    No such thing as a centrifugal force... Sigh.
