2/7/2025 update: they fixed some stuff with him but some of his slam techs are broken now like late wall and crouch slam effects
NEW UPDATED INFO: Developer Comment: We have made some adjustments to Mercy's abilities to be more like the original feel of the hero in 2017. Additionally, we're planning an update to Doomfist in the mode in the next patch.

i am pretty sure they didnt bring back old doom, the created him again from scratch so thats probably why he feels so incredibly different even if its the same abilities
the source code for old doom is for a different engine, they either refactored it sloppily or just create new code off cuff and it shows. All the particle effects are still from tank doom, slam feels like they repurpose old slam to have a lower arch and indicator. punch still feels like tank doom punch but without the aoe and lowered damage. It's exactly like Dante said, it's workshop doom at its best but it's no old dps doom, not even close.
i honestly dont mind, cus i never played ow1 and as an ow2 main even if its not exactly dps doom im still glad i at least get to try it
@@invisibledog93 all the effects except for parts of sym are the new ones (and sym's ones are kind jank like you still see the new TP effect for a split second) so that isnt that big of a deal and is just a limitation they have to work with

If they dont change him back to dps, at the very least keep the grunting when punching for emp punch. It adds so much to the character especially in the middle of a chaotic team fight. Idk why they removed it
The grunting was designed for balance, as they wanted a charged up 1 shot to be very obvious. Let’s not nerf tank doom!

I never played OW1 and playing DPS Doomfist after learning Tank Doomfist feels like putting both shoes on the wrong foot. I am spoiled by how much you can fuck up with the OP tanks of 5V5

1. They are losing a large amount of their fanbase.
2. This is a great motivator to come back to the game.
3. Leaving it on for longer would show if the community started to get tired of playing it.
4. This could be seen as the casual game you go to when having a bad regular game.

Doom isn't the only hero that feels very off in this mode. They clearly had a lot of issues getting the old kits to work with the new engine. One of the funnier bugs I noticed was that symmetras teleporter just doesn't work on some maps, you place the exit tp but the spawn tp just doesn't get placed so the ult is completely useless.
Her tp spawns but there’s no indicator. On Numbani 3rd point defense you have to turn around and walk further into spawn lol

Because it is tank Doom ult outline, the middle of the ult looks much smaller than it actually is.

Same stuff with orisa pre ow2 rework. They planned to keep his voicelines updated for ow2 before they switched him to tank

4:53 Either they went out of their way for this gamemode because it's the only thing that makes this game fun besides 6v6 or maybe they will bring it back. I wish they could return the Uppercut but also keep the Block, have the OW2 Seismic Slam have the damage ramp-up of OW1's, and make his primary fire have the damage of this DPS Doomfist but with the reload of Tankfist. Also get rid of Empowered Punches and let his base Rocket Punch deal good damage. But if they can't do that and will instead choose between DPS Doomfist and Tankfist, I'll take DPS Doomfist

@@zぶi He doesn't need to block and his block is the worst out of all of the tanks on the game. JQ,RH,M,WB they don't have a block in fact if you make his kit similar to WB when he slams to gain shields the more people it hits for AOE. The slam from Tank DF is better (The width) so you keep that and give him OH the more characters it hits his voice line (Gauntlet Charged) gives you the indication you can now pick a target to do significant damage or 1 shot a squishy. His ULT can either be the old one or a new version where if you use it you can get the voice line I mentioned while it stuns a target in the vicinity when he lands you then pick a target and take them out. You need to go look at all of the former OW top DF players they're all saying his old kit needs to come back he's a high risk I reward Hero with Skill expression. I just dont Understand why are the OW2 players that never played OW1 DF think they know what's best when GetQuakedOn the guy who has made all the tech videos on this character says that he likes and prefers DPS DF over Tank DF go look at his old DPS DF videos it's a way more fun hero and he can be a tank as such with his old kit. I have seen and did this in OW1 with myself or someone else as DF while I am the only Tank and he's like Diva/WB in the backline. A WB& DPS DF dive comp in a 6v6 would be insane and someone can Keep a 1 shot Widow maker in check and look at her she has been a pain ask Chipsa he hates that Hero 😂.

i started to play at the start of ow2 and one thing i gotta say is that this version of doom is way harder
i've seen people say that this is in part because peak doomfist was 2018-2020 (obviously not including the tech cancels). how true is this?
also, funny enough, some of the tank doom techs feel good on dps doom (superslam, canceling anything with ult, though canceling slam doesn't feel good)

Its true its not the proper experience from back then but at the same time it adds to fluidity of the hero, cancelling abilities i mean, not working techs is an issue, another small issue is his slam shockwave appears to be giant circle like tank doom when in reality its like small angle making it feel like you are gonna hit the enemy but you dont. Overall its really fun experience tho, watching this gameplay just makes my eyes happy, the movement is so fluid that its just nice to look at, the uppercut, indicator slam and punch just work so great all together, they should never get rid of the hero

I've seen some other videos of you playing Offense/damage doomfist, and it is quite surprising how easily you can melt doomfist. If he were still a damage hero, I would increase his health to 350 so that he doesn't get obliterated by Zenyatta for example. I think thats why the devs gave him a passive, so that he has more health the more damage he deals, however it doesn't reduce his damage taken.
Eventhough I've played tank fist the entire time I've played overwatch 2, in my opinion it makes more sense for doomfist to be a damage hero, than a tank hero, for one simple reason. His gauntlet is canonically the most powerful weapon wielded by an individual. Though to be honest he can still be a tank, because tanks are just big damage heroes by the end of the day.
Yeah I realise that doomfist is kind of in an identity crisis right now with this gamemode being released. Where blizzard would not want him to be a damage hero again, because of his disruption. Him as a tank looses a bit of the identity that he once had. After all, he is the fighting game character, and loosing his uppercut distance himself from the fighting game character fantasy.
I feel like Tank Doomfist needs a rework, to incorporate the best aspects of his is damage and tank self. Bringing back uppercut while also somehow keeping power block, and also increasing his damage slightly.
Bastion is the same, they just "remade" the abilities instead of using the old bastion from 2017. There are a lot of small details that are missing.
They should have never removed the Uppercut ability, he could use the recharge button to use the block or something like it, i feel doom would be insanely fun with all those abilities

slam being cancelable kinda removes counter play you had in doom v doom. the good old days of upper cutting a doom mid slam and they are just stuck in the slam animation.
The min i booted up and played doom i noticed some things were off. It just feels so weird i cant explain it, i noticed i cant do alot of the old things i used to do with him because hes changed :(( Real doomfist players know exactly what i mean
I don't have much experience with DPS doom as i only started playing him very close to end of OW1 and just been stuck to tank doom for the most. Been having a blast playing him in classic even though I'm just feeding most of the time and rarely get impressive plays lol

I always wanted his slam to have a shield pop up outta the ground where the slam lands. That could replace the tankiness Block adds. Add some charge meter where Doom has to land a certain amount of damage or abilities before he gets empowered punch

I agree so much with your initial statement. This dps doom just feels "off" and I can't quite put my finger on it. Some of the abilities just don't feel right... it's still much more fun than tank doom, but considering o.g. McCree, Torb, Hog and Sombra in every game, it is a bit rough. Would've prefered 2-2-2. I also feel like a lot of my previous rollouts have been "patched" on the 2cp maps? Or am I just failing things that I did 9/10 times earlier?

I was like 30 seconds into a game nsaid "something feels off" im coping really hard with this but i hope when they bring back 6v6 they revert doom to DPS. Tank Doom is cool but but a lot of what i enjoyed about doom was lost with the switch.
i don't think the visuals like the ult visual and primary visual and a rework thing, i think it's just the overall graphics changes they made while making OW2, similar to how they updated sounds, redesigned characters, while i agree that OW1 doom ult visual looked better, i very much prefer the primary visual it's somehow more pleasing to look at and somehow makes it easier to hit targets? idk what it was but i always struggled to hit primaries as consistently with DPS doom in OW1 than when tank doom came out in the first beta, all thanks to that one visual change, i feel like the fact that the muzzle coming from behind your arm and being so white and long was too distracting for me

If you're playing against people that are experienced with DPS Doom, then the most effective playstyle is ambush and retreat. Tank Doom is a brawler that can stay in the fight longer and potentially get more picks whilst also having considerable mobility. The stats make tank Doom so much more impactful throughout the *whole* game.
I counted a total of zero, ZERO, “and they say” during entire video. Very disappointing.

Unrelated but when this mode dropped I saw a lot of dooms using the white suit skin doing a Tpose emote bug, someone knows how to do it?
I've done it on other skins by using the heart/dung beetle souvenirs, though I imagine any would work.
I never asked for 2017 June/july? dps doomfist. I just wanted A dps doomfist. So I’m happy with what we got. You still play him the same way you would 2022 dps doom more or less.

I didn't play ow1 but after playing the moth meta mode (which was kinda ass tbh) I can tell you I'd rather have tankfist.

1. Tankfist is more mobile. New slam is old slam and uppercut mobility in one
2. I don’t like one shots from hog/widow/hanzo so one shotting squishies to me felt unrewarding and too easy
3. Tankfist already feels feast or famine but DPS felt wayy more punishing to balance out his one shot. It makes sense but one shots don’t promote mind games which is what I like most about tank Doom
But that’s about it tbh. Although I do find it idiotic to have removed uppercut but ball can keep spamming his slams? How is that fair
