There is a hell is one of my favorite albums ever. I absolutely love it. It all started with me just hearing a snippet of crucify me on a compilation video. Absolutely love that album.
I've always considered "There is a Hell..." to be a landmark metalcore album. It just slaps from the first second until the last. Even though I'm not a fan of That's the Spirit I love Sempiternal and their newer stuff is pretty good.
Tom van der Stoep In the context of Nik’s usage of the words (hence the quotes cause that’s how quotes work) yeah, “starting a surge of bands trying to sound like Sempiternal” could be considered the start of the era. Sure, it’s not technically the start of that “catchy post hardcore/metalcore” genre that BMTH had with There Is A Hell and Sempiternal.
Diamonds aren't forever is metalcore. Not deathcore. Count your blessings also isn't deathcore. It's just a metalcore written in more dark scale and in drop B which is an absolute key to evil sound

TIAH was actually the last album of theirs I listened to in full (i believe i listened to it sometime before amo dropped in 2018) but I think it's their best album, it combines the craziness of Suicide Season with the melody of Sempiternal, and even though I don't think all of their best songs come from TIAH, the sound and energy of that album just feels so authentic
I believe it's their most mature sound design; also, the songs' structures are more complex and beautifully written; lyrics are also very very inspiring (especially Crucify Me). But the drums are poorly mixed. The Sempiternal mix is way better
I actually started listening to them with Thats the Spirit! Definately different to the earlier stuff but I enjoy and like all eras of their music! Ok maybe Go to is an exeption...

I've listened to BMTH since Count Your Blessings, and it's been an interesting ride over the years. Some of those years I hated, but ultimately learned to appreciate whatever direction they go, because they are just good at making music in general. There just aren't that many bands of this caliber that can change their sound so drastically over 15+ years, and still have a huge fan base. Hate em or love em, these dudes absolutely crush it.

Suicide Season will always be their best album for me, it's just so goddamn heavy and uncompromising, but also groovy and catchy as fuck. Definitely had a major role in shaping my metal tastes and still sounds fresh even 12 years later

Couldn't agree more on the growth aspect. Back in my high school days, I'm gonna be straight with you, I couldn't stand these guys. Just wasn't for me. Loved the scene, it was just them specifically along with some others. Then I grow up, Sempiternal roles around....OMFG!!!!! Hands down one of my favorite albums ever. That was the bridge I needed to begin to love everything from Rawr! to Parasite Eve. Find a comfortable starting point and I promise you will learn to love every song in their catalog. BMTH🤘

In my honest opinion, TIAH is BMTHs best album. Hate me if you want but hey this shit hits HARD.

BMTH is one of the only bands I really feel could have at least one song for everybody. Their range over the years is huge.
