8:04 the determination in Sams face in that moment, followed by that soft smirk when he manages to cut off the forearm prior to the hardening. You don't see him do any expressions like that in the main story. This loss completely destroyed him in more ways than one
Sams ideals died with him in that moment, it broke him. You can see a smidge of it coming back on his last fight with Raiden, the way he blinks to Wolf when he dies.
What kind of ideals does Sam have anyway? "If I lose to evil, my ideals are wrong"? That's the weakest logic ever. That's like the bastardised offspring of "might makes right" and "stand against evil". Good people stand against evil DESPITE occasionally losing, because only the naive believe good always wins against evil.

Sam's blade is a family heirloom that was already really sharp to begin with, so when it got made high frequency, it became insanely sharp. TL:DR: Sam's sword is really fucking sharp.

I just love the way it is directed. Sam takes blow after blow with a plan in mind. And when he sees opportunity, he seizes it. But then Armstrong also has ace in hand and that moment of realization from Sam is just amazing.
It’s because Sam ignored Moonson’ line about losing a limb or two wouldn’t stop them. But to be fair to Sam, up until now, everyone who got their arm cut off was basically out of commission. It was amazing how Sam lured Armstrong closer by letting him have a few hits. He realized too late though that he could still attack.
Dunno about it being explained that he's wearing an exoskeleton/suit/w/e in particular, but it is specified after Raiden defeats him that the only truly cybernetic part of him is the arm he has to have replaced because of... Er... This. And since he's specified to have no/almost no other enhancements, there's not a lot else for him to be working with other than a powered exoskeleton sort of thing. It's possible it IS most specific about it being an exosuit sort of thing at some point, but I don't remember it as clearly as the whole "Wow, that guy who gave you so much trouble and was your worthy adversary and all that was almost 100% human" thing.

I want to point out that Sam was probably the closest one to beating Armstrong out of any of the other members, being the only known person other than Raidan to deal actual damage to him. So when Raiden said 'Let's Dance!' as he drew Sam's sword, Armstrong couldn't help but fear the smallest amount of fear from his previous encounter with the person who said that line.
I wonder why he didn't have any cyb enhancements. I also wonder why he sided with Armstrong, they didn't explain that or his motives to give up and adopt different ideals.
Well, to be fair, he wasn't exactly an unaugmented human. The armor he wore was a powered exosuit, which multiplied his strength, endurance, and a speed beyond a normal human. However, said exosuits had existed long before fully body cyborg conversion, being at least 13 years old tech by the time of Rising, as Gray Fox wore such an exosuit (only it was grafted to his body). We can get a good idea to the minimum level Sam was augmented, as Gray Fox was able to catch a stomp from Metal Gear Rex, and it took two stomps to kill him. Since it had been 13 years since then, I imagine Sam's armor was probably more advanced than that. Sure, while this means that Sam had super human abilities, and thus could stand a chance against cyborgs, but there is only so much an suit of armor could do compared to full cyborgs like Raiden or the Winds of Destruction. This means that that Raiden's first body already was superior to Sam's exosuit, a gap in physical abilities that only got bigger when Raiden upgraded. Exosuit or not, its still a huge testimate to Sam's skill. In short, Sam was probably stronger than the original Cyborg Ninja, Gray Fox (since the powered exoskeleton tech certainly improved in the 13 years since), but was weaker than Raiden's original cyborg body.

Sure he doesn't have THAT many augmentations, but it's foolish to say he has none. That's just simple fanboyism. laz kar Actually, Raiden never cut Armstrong's heart. He ripped it out with his hand, and it seriously looked like Sam was stabbed in the chest and not the heart. He died, yeah, but it didn't say if it was from blood loss or from heart puncture/disintegration. Raiden looked over him and said he was human, but that's that, really. No details on his death. Either that, or, I need to watch Sam dying again.
I'm pretty sure Armstrong only stabbed him in the shoulder in this. I'd guess that being the reason he's got a more cybernetic looking right arm, shoulder and partial chest. Probably why Sam looked at his own wound after he said that losing a limb or two won't stop them. You don't even see his arm after it.
I feel like it might actually be a little fun to Sam as well. Not to the extent of how Armstrong is treating it, of course, but just based on some expressive cues Sam gives, I feel like he might just be enjoying it a bit as well.
Did you guys know that the Murasama is a high frequency blade? This means that the sword can not only kill people/cyborgs, but it also weakens a person's molecular bonds. What I am saying is that the reason why Raiden kill Armstrong is not because of his ripper mode, but the Murasama can slice through any kind of metal, including adamantine (did I spell it right?)

I just love the way it is directed. Sam takes blow after blow with a plan in mind. And when he sees opportunity, he seizes it. But then Armstrong also has ace in hand and that moment of realization from Sam is just amazing.
It’s because Sam ignored Moonson’ line about losing a limb or two wouldn’t stop them. But to be fair to Sam, up until now, everyone who got their arm cut off was basically out of commission.
It was amazing how Sam lured Armstrong closer by letting him have a few hits. He realized too late though that he could still attack.

Dunno about it being explained that he's wearing an exoskeleton/suit/w/e in particular, but it is specified after Raiden defeats him that the only truly cybernetic part of him is the arm he has to have replaced because of... Er... This. And since he's specified to have no/almost no other enhancements, there's not a lot else for him to be working with other than a powered exoskeleton sort of thing.
It's possible it IS most specific about it being an exosuit sort of thing at some point, but I don't remember it as clearly as the whole "Wow, that guy who gave you so much trouble and was your worthy adversary and all that was almost 100% human" thing.

I want to point out that Sam was probably the closest one to beating Armstrong out of any of the other members, being the only known person other than Raidan to deal actual damage to him.
So when Raiden said 'Let's Dance!' as he drew Sam's sword, Armstrong couldn't help but fear the smallest amount of fear from his previous encounter with the person who said that line.
Notice how he was also so keen to make sure Raiden didn't get Murasama, knowing full well what the blade could do.

I wonder why he didn't have any cyb enhancements. I also wonder why he sided with Armstrong, they didn't explain that or his motives to give up and adopt different ideals.
Well, to be fair, he wasn't exactly an unaugmented human. The armor he wore was a powered exosuit, which multiplied his strength, endurance, and a speed beyond a normal human. However, said exosuits had existed long before fully body cyborg conversion, being at least 13 years old tech by the time of Rising, as Gray Fox wore such an exosuit (only it was grafted to his body). We can get a good idea to the minimum level Sam was augmented, as Gray Fox was able to catch a stomp from Metal Gear Rex, and it took two stomps to kill him. Since it had been 13 years since then, I imagine Sam's armor was probably more advanced than that.
Sure, while this means that Sam had super human abilities, and thus could stand a chance against cyborgs, but there is only so much an suit of armor could do compared to full cyborgs like Raiden or the Winds of Destruction. This means that that Raiden's first body already was superior to Sam's exosuit, a gap in physical abilities that only got bigger when Raiden upgraded. Exosuit or not, its still a huge testimate to Sam's skill.
In short, Sam was probably stronger than the original Cyborg Ninja, Gray Fox (since the powered exoskeleton tech certainly improved in the 13 years since), but was weaker than Raiden's original cyborg body.
***** Why do people say he has no augments when he quite obviously has a suit that increases his speed and strength and agility? Sure he doesn't have THAT many augmentations, but it's foolish to say he has none. That's just simple fanboyism. Look at the ground he covers with his leaps and dashes in Raiden's second fight with him and tell me he has no god damn augmentations.
Skeith Eh, Mistral is also kind of a smart fighter. She always makes sure she has dwarf gekkos around to rebuild her spear, and even packs extra ammunition on her back.
That said, she definitely could have used those extra arms to throw projectiles, so yeah

Actually, Raiden never cut Armstrong's heart. He ripped it out with his hand, and it seriously looked like Sam was stabbed in the chest and not the heart. He died, yeah, but it didn't say if it was from blood loss or from heart puncture/disintegration.
Raiden looked over him and said he was human, but that's that, really. No details on his death.
Either that, or, I need to watch Sam dying again.

I'm pretty sure Armstrong only stabbed him in the shoulder in this. I'd guess that being the reason he's got a more cybernetic looking right arm, shoulder and partial chest. Probably why Sam looked at his own wound after he said that losing a limb or two won't stop them. You don't even see his arm after it.

Did you guys know that the Murasama is a high frequency blade? This means that the sword can not only kill people/cyborgs, but it also weakens a person's molecular bonds. What I am saying is that the reason why Raiden kill Armstrong is not because of his ripper mode, but the Murasama can slice through any kind of metal, including adamantine (did I spell it right?)
