I would recommend to most young people to spend some time doing this before they settle down and “get on with life” and not wait until they are 50 or 60 years old. You might find that you enjoy it and spend the rest of your life this way. I’m in my 50’s, raised my son, lost my wife, and spent decades working crazy amounts of time to support a lifestyle I no longer believe in. So now I’ve got a truck and travel trailer and I’m going to give it a shot. I don’t want to be old and sitting in a care facility waiting to die and wishing I had taken the opportunity to do this. Now if I could find a lady friend to go with me I’d be in heaven lol

Beautiful i have lived in my van for 8 years its not the destination that matters its the journey that counts good luck to you all life is for living enjoy xxx
1998, I spent the summer planning a trip across the States in a 1955 Volkswagen Bus with westfalia camper kit...Extra motor on the roof rack, two spare tires, extra brake lines, all the fluids.....then my girlfriend at the time got an apartment for us in the Northern San Francisco Bay Area and my dream fizzled away.......I have only myself to blame. I'll spend the rest of my life wondering what could have been. DON'T BE ME, GO FOR IT.
I am 81 born at the end of great depression - my sister and I were raised in a very small homemade trailer and loved every minute of it - great family saw more learned more that trailer was home very small but we never noticed - our safe nest of love - never fear for your children. I am moving in a van conversion the end of July my son is converting van for me now. WOW!!!!!!! I cannot wait, best life ever - what a big front yard - never dull - never boring - my life will be beautiful missed it so. Go for your dream your children will so enjoy it and miss it soooo if ever forced to live in any other manner. I admire what you for your way of life.
I originally found this -movie/documentary in 2019, right after I purchased my first van in California. I’m now on my 3rd van and it’s so weird how far removed we are now in 2024 from this type of “original style van” life. I’m so grateful I found this documentary. It’s help shape so much of who I am when I’m moving about this country in a van. Thank you!
This is really giving me courage. Ever since I moved out with 19 (am 35 now) I kept moving around, never really content with how my life was. I moved 11 times since then, that's like every second year moving to another place and even though I've always been dreaming of, you know, traveling and freedom it is only now after massive changes in my life that I realize that this vanlife thing might be my way of living, at least for a while. Because that restlessness in me, the inability to settle down for good, it stems from within and it is about finding myself, learning to trust myself, learning to be independent and have courage not just in myself, but also the world around me. I'm a fucking coward, but I will do this. It will take time until I've paid off my university debts and such, but i will do it.

The admiration I have for these people is HUGE. I moved to Spain 17 years ago and that was a BIG challenge, and now i'm itching for something new. I watch lots of these type of videos and this is the best by far. One day I will make the decision to go...One day...
The cinematography is superb! The drone shots are awesome. I loved being able to see land that I'll never see in my lifetime. The narrator's voice was peaceful, serene, and genuine, not to mention smooth as buttah! Listening to all the stories made me think about possibilities in my own life or opportunities for change. I loved when one of the travelers said, "Fear is the enemy." So true! Thank you for sharing this beautiful documentary. I know it represents countless hours of hard work. Bravo!
Such a great view, detailed, honest with real people from different backgrounds. I am 48 now, kids grown up, looking a vans now, been a dream of mine way way back. My teenage daughters are both supportive, needs to happen. Thanks so much for the insight.
But that has to be very difficult on a big family in such cramped space, which appears to include a large dog as well. I bet they would enjoy a little more space if they could??
When the beautiful Italian artist was talking about her husband Johnny ....and how she couldn't believe she found him and that she was afraid something would be broken and needs fixin...It took me a minute after not seeing Johnny in the van before I realized Johnny is the van ... Ive heard of a Van man ..but never a Man Van ..lol 😳😍man!!!
I like to drive but end of day I want to sleep in a safe and secure place , would never feel safe in the open. So I can just watch these people for their bravery, can never attempt it sadly.
That's it..I've had it with the rent rut.. searching for my van now😉 no way will i lay in a nursing home bed in the future and say i wish i had or if only,
Make a list and check it twice. You'll have the same expenses (you just pay them in a different place) and then some. A lot of people think they use fewer resources, but miss what they use in laundromats, etc. You spend more time shopping for food because of limited food storage, etc.
I have been planning a "try-out" trip for the month of July 2018 in New England, USA. We're taking a tent with us for stops along the way between visits to 5 family members, in 5 states. We will also head down to Rhode Island for a day trip, though there are no relatives there. This movie is inspiring, and educational. I really liked the honesty in the interviews! We will be travelling in a 2005 Dodge Gran Caravan named "Fiona". (Driving east on the Highway one day, her shadow looked just like an Ogre from the Shrek movies!) I feel more compelled than ever to be one with the No-mad Nomads here in the US. As a retiree living in someone else's home for 6 months now (VERY GRACIOUS HOSTS!!!) I don't feel homeless...more like houseless. Thanks for such an honest and inspiring movie. Happy Trails where the Rubber meets the road, from Cris Y-D
you just made our day with your comment, seriously. We're really happy and glad that our movie can inspire people, that's what we like most of all! :) I wish you a great trip in USA with Fiona! :)
Loved the film very much! I’m getting my van in 3 weeks! My father passed in January of this year and it’s really put life in perspective for me while dealing with the loss of my best friend and a wonderful Father all in one. I’m ready to travel while I’m still somewhat young. Hopefully I can find some sort of peace out there in the world because I’m definitely not finding it in my current daily life. Safe travels! Thanks
Sorry for your loss. I also recently loss my Mother and 6months later my girlfriend. Sitting in a House alone as made the depression overwhelming. Driving passed all the places i had so many memories is Painful. Traveling and seeing NEW places and not being reminded constantly of the past is one way to get out of a rutt. Plus meeting new people everyday vs staring at the walls is great therapy. Traveling has saved my life in alot of different ways. Wishing you the best. Good Vibes 👣
Been watching this movie again, what a great footage, great Skills Armando! Would like to meet you up sometime on the spot! Best of luck to you both guys and congratulations to your van renovation it’s just stunning 🤩 🤙
This is so inspiring. Down sizing is scary...vanlife is out of the ordinary and travelling the less travelled roads is challenging but what is life if not an experience?
My plans are to trade in my car on a purchase for a van in August once my lease is up. I'm currently researching my products to be used in my van build. I will continue to work for the boat manufacturer I'm employed with while living out of my van. This isnt a challenge for me because I was an otr truck driver for 12 years and working in the field of a seamstress/upholster I have tools and ideas that will allow me a peace of mind. Yes, like everything in life there will be repairs needed, so what, its life. Thank you all for sharing your experiences.
I do work and live in my apartment , but i have my van for traveling and holidays and its beeing used about 100days a year currently, one of the wierdest things i find while traveling is people permanently living in a van looking down on everyone that choose to have their "van" as a holiday cabin instead of their perm home ..
I (personally) think it's a silly idea to look down on anyone, much less someone who explores when they can. :) A cabin in the woods? Grin. How cool. I think the most important thing to keep in mind is: who you are, where you want to discover, and having joy along the travel. It doesn't matter how many days. It matters the experience.
The greatest behind the scenes vanlife portrait I have ever watched! Thank you so much for this epic and inspiring journey. See you on the road, someday.... 😊
Hi Armando ! What a really great movie you made ! We just look at it during a rainy day on our VW T4 (@RideOnSulley) and it really spoke to us 😂 Keep on inspiring us with your stories and your good technicals advices !
Westfalia~ I know it must be annoying (to say the least :( ) ...of course it's true- vanlife is the one for me... no ambiguity- just like you! I was a bit worried I was fooling myself, that people were making fun of me, however I've always known how I feel about this. I can't wait to do this!
@@Westfaliadigitalnomads cojones much needed esp. as a woman :) - its about bucking the system by going around it harmoniously. I love van/ bus/travel life- ultimate dream with good intentions!
Great film. Thank you so much. I was travelling when I fell pregnant 26years ago, so travelling stopped - kind of. We’ve spent the last 26 yrs between here and Kenya 😂. The youngest child is nearly 18yrs and I’m planning to live six months a year on the road to avoid the grim British winters, from this time next year. This film is such an inspiration - makes me want to jump in the van and leave now!!!! 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for this video! Amazing places, amazing people and most important of all: AMAZING REALITY. In this documentary you show the realness of this type of living and this is really important 'cause as many of the people in this video has said social media show only a part of this. Great job!
Enjoyed this video! When I needed a vehicle a few years back, I bought a van and started with little 1 night trips. You can do a smaller version of this lifestyle too. I look forward to exploring where I live now with my van and small trips.
Stunning..... what an amazing and inspiring piece. You should be very proud of your project. I am blown away visually but also the content was very well put together.
What an amazing vid. Great to see Mike Hudson AKA Van Dog Traveller, hope your ok Mike. I cannot wait to leave the 9 to 5 and set off on my travels. Set myself a goal, hope the other half wants it as much as i do, Fantastic people ,such an inspiration, keep living the dream people. Peace and Love x
Thank you so much for this wonderful video. Thanks to the witnesses for sharing their real life experience. -Yves, surfing plannet Earth with a Westfalia since 1982 :-)
Now, guys, this documentary is a treat! I was pointed towards it via Rich's last video where he did a quick interview with you guys and I'm so glad I watched it. The videography is spectacular and the interviews done in a way that makes them a pleasure to listen to. So much insight into the van life from so many different perspectives. I've always wanted to convert a vintage bus into a mobile home (I could do with a van, but I'll never get my wife to give up all of her comforts, so I'm afraid I'll have to compromise) which is why I'm so interested in all the van life videos by Beyond The Van, The Indie Project, Explorer Buddies and so many others. This documentary has given me great ideas and renewed the spark. Who knows? I might actually go through with it in the future. You certainly wet my appetite. 👍😉
thanks a lot for your comment. We're so glad we can inspire with our movie, that's our goal! I should thanks Rich as well! :) remember: is a plan, not a dream :) so make it happen!
This has to be, by far, the best video I have seen and heard, about the nomad lifestyle. It has been very informative, very touching, very exciting, and very real, about the wonderful experiences one can have and enjoy while traveling in a van or RV
I love that documentary. It motivates me even more than I was to change my life and move towards living in a van. Thank you for helping me to be sure ♡
Cool movie! I live in the US, where a lot of people live in vehicles because they cannot afford housing, or housing is in some parts really expensive, and they don't want the lion share of their money to be spent on housing. Some seem to thrive, but others not so much.
for sure US is different from Europe. As well here there are people almost forced to live out in a van or in a car unfortunately. Sometimes it's a choice, sometimes not :(
A very real look at different reasons for taking up vandwelling either temporarily or as a lifestyle - the different psychologies behind vandwelling. It looks as if vandwelling is a worldwide attraction for young and old alike, and makes more and more sense to more and more people, especially now that there are technological improvements in solar and batteries and and high top vans to choose from. It seems the biggest problems on the road are vehicle failures and one needs to pay more attention to what is going on with the van - preventative and scheduled maintenance is important, plus upgrades to make the van ride more comfortable.
Thanks for watching the movie! We're glad you liked it :) I suppose vehicle maintainance is pretty important! I suppose is the same in a house, you have to keep things working right?
@@Westfaliadigitalnomads Hello. Have you given thought to doing a sequel to this movie? Van tours and interviews are quite popular, and your movie helped dispel that vandwellers are all scrubby and down and out people. I loved the optimism and good cheer presented in the movie. I for one know I would be blissed out in my own DIY van, and I contemplate on it every day.
ColleenKaralee Peltomaa indeed! We already got some new interviews, the sequel will focus more on vandwellers of our age (not millennials and so on). People that lived the “rat race” and jumped on a nomadic lifestyle!
@@Westfaliadigitalnomads I look forward to it. I've been binge watching CheapRVLiving elderly interviews and some are living full-time in a van out of financial necessity and some voluntarily b/c of a long suppressed travel bug or because of more even access to children and g'children spread far apart. Myself, my dream is to be a true snowbird - a bungalow in Canada and one in Florida and vandwelling to live on campus when I'm taking courses, or hiding out in the driveway or backyard of grown children I'm visiting with. I don't have a travel bug but do know people who would make a great mentor for me. My health is better than ever it was when I was young, proving that one can cleanse and regenerate the mind and body when free from demands. In fact, one of my favorite mentors spent about ten years in his motorhome on his back happily out-of-body travelling, and I know an American buddhist monk who enjoys the zen-ness of his converted van. So, it appeals to all types, eh!? My biggest angst is trying to decide if I want the bed front to back or side-to-side, lol. Anyone feng shui a converted van? Looking much forward to your next flick.
Sempre belli i vostri video. Dolci, a tratti commoventi. Pieni di entusiasmo. Libertà, voglia di vivere. Inteneriscono il cuore. Ripuliscono la mente dalle brutture della vita di tutti i giorni. I miei complimenti. Tu armando, insieme a tua moglie, sarete sempre i più belli di questa epoca abbastanza ridicola. GRAZIE
Wonderful documentation! And so inspiring! I would love to see more of these :) And the choice of music just fits perfect. Looking forward to buy a van in 3 years and start my own adventure!
Superb congratulation to both of you for the great effort invested in making this excellent film which among many positive points will be an inspiration to many to show that there are a lot of options to make life better. Thank you for sharing.
This is seriously one of the most amazing documentaries I've ever seen, so inspiring! Now I want to go and get my own van right away haha thanks for that!
I would love to have met everyone in your video. They all seem to have very enlightening and interesting perspectives. I crave the idea of challenging my own perspectives. Hope to see more. Thank you for sharing your project!
Roc Diver thanks for watching:) we do connect will all the people we’ve met in the last 7 years while on the road and the ones in the movie are just few of them
Very, very well done, 5 stars. It must have quite some time to assemble and edit. I appreciate it and it was most inspiring. I currently live in Australia and next month, will be picking up a van in Calgary, Alberta to travel North America in. Again thank you for an excellent video.
took more than 3 years to record the interview and around 6 months to edit all the footage, but I simply love to do it! Safe travels and enjoy your North American journey :)

Nicolas Couchot thanks Nicolas, really appreciate your comment and so glad that the movie inspired you, that was my goal :)
Nicolas Couchot I’ll maybe do a new one only on Jamaican Blue T4 hahaha
Haha ! We'll be happy to be on this new movie ;)
Excelente documental 👌🏼
Beautiful movie. Enjoyed it very much. We made the first step building an expedition vehicle and date is set to start our journey.
always glad we can inspire other people, so happy for your journey :) Maybe our paths well cross one day!
I'm working on saving for my van. This just makes me even more excited.
XDrZaneX thanks for watching! And safe travel as soon your van will be ready :)
So did you get your van? 😁
Westfalia~ I know it must be annoying (to say the least :( ) ...of course it's true- vanlife is the one for me... no ambiguity- just like you! I was a bit worried I was fooling myself, that people were making fun of me, however I've always known how I feel about this. I can't wait to do this!
well, I would say Vanlife is not for everybody. Takes a lot of "cojones" to do so, at least in the way we do. :) But gives a lot of freedom
@@Westfaliadigitalnomads cojones much needed esp. as a woman :) - its about bucking the system by going around it harmoniously. I love van/ bus/travel life- ultimate dream with good intentions!
You've changed my mind and rebirth my oldest dream. Thanks a lot.
Wow, thanks for your comment! Best reward ever :)
fantastic film very inspirational to complete my van conversion project
Thanks for your feedback, I'm sure you'll do a great job on you van. After that you'll be ready to explore :)
Thank you so much for this video! Amazing places, amazing people and most important of all: AMAZING REALITY. In this documentary you show the realness of this type of living and this is really important 'cause as many of the people in this video has said social media show only a part of this. Great job!
Hi Anica, thanks so much for your comment. Showing something real was our main goal with this movie...seems we got it! :)
Thanks for posting this. Love the interviews.

Enjoyed this video! When I needed a vehicle a few years back, I bought a van and started with little 1 night trips. You can do a smaller version of this lifestyle too. I look forward to exploring where I live now with my van and small trips.

Thank you so much for this wonderful video. Thanks to the witnesses for sharing their real life experience. -Yves, surfing plannet Earth with a Westfalia since 1982 :-)
Thanks for this beautiful and really inspiring video!
patricidio cristiano thanks for watching and so glad we can inspire with simple stories
Thanks Jose, your and other people words is what make us continue exploring this lifestyle :)
Please keep those videos coming! We appreciate them very much!
you can find the new videos in our playlist VANLIFERS
Thank you so much. Yes, I am going to watch more of your videos from the playlist. All the best!
What a content guys, surprised you have only 7k subs. Inspiring me fix my van ASAP and hit the road :))))
Anton Narnickis don’t loose to much time with te van, when ready start and go!
I love that documentary. It motivates me even more than I was to change my life and move towards living in a van. Thank you for helping me to be sure ♡
your comment is my greatest reward for the time spent on this movie, so happy it can inspire more and more people! :)
Great insight. Thanks for y’all input in this. Happy Holidays to y’all n wishing y’all the best of blessings. 😎🤙🤙
Very inspired by the Video..GOOD JOB
Thanks for your feedback, we're glad to inspire others! :) That's what makes us happy!
A sympathetic though still honest, I think, explanation of what constitutes living and traveling on the road. Very entertaining and informative.
thanks a lot for your feedback!
Realy nice movie 👍👍
Interesting people with good choices.
Thanks for the amazing documentary! Loved it, inspiring and tutorial, especially for someone who will start his Van Life in September!
Wish you all the best for your new life! Safe travels! :)
This documentary was awesome!!! Loved every story!! Thank you for sharing❤️❤️❤️
Thanks for watching it and for your feedback! :)
Sempre belli i vostri video. Dolci, a tratti commoventi. Pieni di entusiasmo. Libertà, voglia di vivere. Inteneriscono il cuore. Ripuliscono la mente dalle brutture della vita di tutti i giorni. I miei complimenti. Tu armando, insieme a tua moglie, sarete sempre i più belli di questa epoca abbastanza ridicola.
GRAZIE
Awesome video. Opens my mind up to new possibilities. Thanks. God bless.
Big Blade thanks appreciate :)
Really good movie guys, thoroughly enjoyed it!
Thanks Ash :) appreciate your time for watching the movie and for your comment :)
Wonderful documentation! And so inspiring! I would love to see more of these :) And the choice of music just fits perfect. Looking forward to buy a van in 3 years and start my own adventure!
thanks for your feedback! So happy that the movie can inspire to make it a plan, not just a dream!
Beautifully made and inspiring documentary !
