Nicely done! Nosferatu was on my 'To do' list many years ago, but never got round to it. Ended up doing 'The Knock, E4 6a instead. Originally planning on a dyno from the horizontal break to the finish, and when I got there, realised just how far it was PMSL.
Yep…it was E6 back in the day…pads and the likes defo round it out at E5… cool it was onsight. seem to remember we top roped it once… and piled ru cksaks and a couple of ropes as “ 1984 landing pads."
Well done acknowledging the pads/spotters. As mentioned below, its E6 without the pads 😉 Interesting question, what's harder, Nosferatu with pads, or The Nock without? Would be good to get your opinion.
I tried this back in Feb '98 without spotters and mats. I found the boulder part not too bad, if I remember rightly (I mean, I did it many times), but couldn't get the top move as I'm only 165 cm. Yeah, same heigh as Johnny Dawes, but he's not human!
A pretty similar experience for me but done in the 80’s, similarity in that equally i’m 165 but topped out and have subsequently soloed on quite a few occasions since (need to undercut the top break!)
@@mikelea3406 cool! I'm sure I tried the undercut but it just didn't work. In the end the disappointment of nailing the bouldering bit (in a different way than my mate Simon Nadin who was taller) but then failing the top got to me!
Well would be difficult to keep up with Si in any respects. There are some circumstances where height can hinder success and ref Si - despite protracted attempts, Thing on a Spring always evaded me! Some you win, some you loose…..
@@mikelea3406 ahhhh, should have said. It's not that Simon Nadin, it's the other one from Sheffield. He was still a handy climber in his day, he managed E8, which isn't bad!
Mate, there's no fuckin' way that's E6 even without pads. With the three pads you used you'd be lucky to get E4. EDIT. You used FIVE PADS? This is a joke.

Most excellent !
Congrats on the onsight and thanks for another quality video!
Thanks! More on the way!

Sounds like you would have used pads if they'd be around!
Top effort well done!

It's not E6 even without pads Dave.
Hi Dave, I'll give it a go when the weather clears up, thanks for the suggestion!
my guy hung on forever great send
I think you've found the secret to trad😂 some routes have taken me over an hour, hanging on forever is the way🤙
bon effort!
It's E6 without the pads, E4 with; but still nicely done.
Damn. You copied my post. 😉
I'm kinda surprised you were carrying nuts, is that just force of habit or did you think you might place some?
Hi Jeremy, I didn't know if there might have been some smallp placements along the way I hadn't spotted, nuts are pretty light anyway!
I have also onsighted nosferatu with no pads. ( in those days we didn't have pads & I don't like pads
Using pads on routes is cheating.

I flashed it on solo in 97 without pads or spotters.
So why no helmet on anyone there? Not the climber or belayer has one on.
You are absolutely right, I should be wearing one, I just forgot in all the working myself up beforehand, well spotted!
No helmet, no pads, no sticky boots when I did the first ascent 😂
@@andybarker7372 we've got things easy these days!! big respect for the vision of everyone putting up early hard trad routes.
@@andybarker7372 That's a good effort for 1980.
Spicy 6A+? 🤣jk nice one dude
Have my children 🤯😍😍 E6! That's like almost as hard as Yosemite, have you seen free solo
Free solo with Alex handhold is my favourite film!, I love the bit where he climbs that rock!
It's not even E6 without pads. You can have hard E3 for this ascent.
Fair comment
This is mega wtf
Gotta find some more low hanging e6's now👌

@@PeakDistrictBouldering I'll have a look, cheers!
No it isn't, it's pathetic. Five pads and three spotters is ridiculous.

Didn't fancy breaking my legs for no particular reason lol
Lookout everybody the ethics police are about
Si have you even done it?? I’d like to see the proof of you doing it without pads before making this kinda comment!
