    What's happened to Boomerang is arguably even worse. It's supposed to be a channel for *classic* cartoons, so why is it constantly airing stuff made in like 2013?

    What's wrong with Cartoon Network now can be summed up in three words:
    Teen Titans Go

    • @Titan69
      @Titan69 6 років тому +25

      That's wrong, I mean sort of. Yes, it truly hurt to that a show that gave me emotions and laughs at the same time is now turned into that trash, indeed a big part of the fuck up caused by Snyder. But there are still many other shows that I'd argue are even worse like Uncle Grandpa and We Bare Bears (sure this show people might consider good but in my opinion this show has attempted to spread modern culture between children, looking at how much they loves selfies in this show, I agree it can have good messages sometimes, but they can be overshadowed by other stupidity), Clarence (yes), and the new PPG and Ben 10. I mean despite Teen Titans being one of my all time favorites the new Ben 10 and PPG have played equal parts in ruining CN as they're also hideous reboots of great old shows.

Drake and Josh was so good and popular that it made Cartoon Network and Nickelodean think that live action shows were the future of TV.

    I swear, Cartoon City is still the most immersive thing I've ever experienced in my life. Those little bumpers in between commercials brought me into the world of Cartoon Network like no other medium had done until then. It was like the characters had lives outside of each episode in a living, breathing world; it was so mystifying.
    Also, that It's Friday Night continuous shot sequence is one of the best things I've ever seen. I still remember how amazing it was to see that play on a Friday night after school. Best way to start the weekend off.

    • @Maya-ls3ky
      @Maya-ls3ky 6 років тому +20

      Monkey D. "Straw Hat" Luffy Honestly CN is a collapsing horse and it isn't because of the internet, smartphones and netflix, that is just the blame Miller places on hers and Stewart's failure to create consistent quality
      Both Nick and Adult Swim PROVE that a channel on cable TV can still be successful, and viacom is on higher cable packages for most people so the notion that TV is dying is a BS excuse for crappy leadership
      Current CN's biggest problem which is undoubtedly TTG is getting so put of hand and unfixable at this point that even if they quit overairing TTG the only solid cartoons of decent quality left would be We bare bears, SU and Gumball none of which live up to the 2000s classics or even Adventure Time and Regular show and dare I say they don't even meet Chowder and Flapjack quality
      The fact that they even lost Pokemon and they are behind nick @ nite shows how incredibly retarded the upper management at CN are right now, you can't reasonably say that people have abandoned TV to watch Gumball when these SAME people haven't abandoned TV for George Lopez reruns
      CN's two major mistakes under Miller was purposefully sabotaging content and quality on the channel to get people to an app nobody wants or ever asked for and their market and lack of users proves that and the fact that they put all their eggs into only TTG, which possibly assisted in getting nobody to the app, I am pretty sure most people who even still regularly watch CN instead of AS at this point are there for Gumball and Teen Titans which defeats the purpose of going to the app since its all they ever air on the channel
      Also putting out new episodes on the app like a month before they air on TV is a major mistake along with only advertising TTG and not having an effective block (Har Har Tharsdays or Fridays) doesn't bring any attention to your channel which you fucking need if you want people to even consider your god forsaken joke of an app, also the Boomerang rebranding was a complete joke/failure, with TTG's ratings in fast decline and both TTG and Gumball looking like their near the end of their series CN is going to probably be in a complete crisis in the next two years if Unikitty or any of the new shows they are making don't get people back to the channel, they'll never get anyone to the app until they entice people with content from the channel first

    • @OnlyZunkin
      @OnlyZunkin 6 років тому +16

      As somebody who has watched CN since literally day one, I am sad to say I have all but completely abandoned the channel. These days I barely even switch it on once a week, if that. I can't believe they have managed to utterly destroy something this iconic. I mean you really have to work at it to undo a brand that has revolutionized and led the industry for 20+ years. They could have stopped spending a even a single penny on new content and played nothing but reruns of their old shows and they still wouldn't have done anywhere near as much damage as they have.

    You have to really take into consideration what began to flourish around this time. Back in the 90's, kids were watching TV all the time because personal computers and the internet wasn't as developed with the dsl. Once smartphones began to bloom and especially websites like UA-cam, fewer people were watching TV for cartoons. Nowadays a kid can watch cartoons from hundreds of different places outside of cable TV. 90's were really the golden age of cartoons because kids really didn't have much options.

    The golden age of Cartoon Network was the 90s. Ed Edd and Eddy, Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, Johnny Bravo, Dexter Lab, the original Teen Titans, even occasional reruns of the Jetsons and Flintstones. Kids Next Door and Adventures of Billy and Mandy were good too. Then things went down hill around 2004-05 and never recovered. That's just my generation anyway. I'm 22 now and 2001-06/early 07 were my main CN watching years, pretty much my whole elementary school years. I witnessed the golden age, silver age and decline, and honestly people have different opinions on when CN died. I've been on UA-cam for over a decade now and I remember when people used to believe it was 2004, and honestly I thought a lot of their reasons were too superficial and not logical at all. Hanna-Barbera cartoons were decent but I couldn't get into most of them. Scooby-Doo and Tom & Jerry were the only HB cartoons I cared about on CN.
    Growing up was hooked and addicted into great originals like Dexter's Lab, Johnny Bravo, PPG, Courage, Ed Edd n Eddy, Billy & Mandy, Codename: KND, Foster's Home, Samurai Jack, Justice League/Unlimited, Teen Titans, Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, and much more! I loved CCF/Fridays especially when it went all the way through the late night when [adult swim] used to not come on everyday, and I remember when [adult swim] didn't start until 11pm too. I loved Toonami especially when TOM 3 was around from 2003-2007, which was my main time watching the block. Oh, and who couldn't forget Miguzi with great shows like Code Lyoko, TMNT (2003), or my boi Static Shock!?
    I loved CN when it had its checkerboard logo from 2004 & earlier and I loved CN when it turned into the City Era from 2004 and after. I remember like yesterday when the City Era first premiered and when Foster's Home first came out. I've complained about CN many times in the past and I'm aware of the mistakes Stuart Snyder made, such as TOM 4 killing Toonami in 2007 leading to its cancellation, Fried Dynamite replacing Fridays, CN Top 5 getting canceled, and the addition of live-action shows such as Re-Animated turning into that horrible OOJH series or CN Real. I didn't like the Nood Era, but even then you still had some good variety with Total Drama Island, Chowder, Ben 10: Alien Force, and Star Wars: the Clone Wars. CN got revived in 2010 once I hit high school, and everybody was hooked into Adventure Time and Regular Show including myself. I believe the revival era lasted from 2010-2014. Like many others, I didn't discover Young Justice until I saw it on Netflix a few years ago after it had already been cancelled, and I know why.
    CN is a shell of its former self with that horrible schedule lately, but honestly I've moved on. I enjoyed the golden age CN gave for me since 2001, but honestly television is dying and streaming services are becoming the norm as days go by. I watch a lot of my shows on my computer now or on Netflix. Times change, and we have to adapt to them. Kids of the 60's-80's could only watch cartoons during Saturday mornings. Kids of the 90's & 00's had 24 hour cartoon stations (especially the golden age of Nick, CN, and Disney), and now we are transitioning into kids watching cartoons on any platform they want to, which is actually happening now. Kids today can choose from Disney Channel, Disney XD, Nick, CN (yes even as bad as it is now), Discovery Family, or Netflix to watching their favorite cartoons. So I've moved on honestly. The best part about CN is that no matter how much time goes on, for us millennials the golden memories of CN's prime will always be inside our hearts for us to discuss and reminisce anytime.

      TWO96; Me to pretty much. They had some pretty good shows back then. I remember watching stuff like Time Squad, Ed Edd N Eddy, Samurai Jack, Megas XLR, Grimm Adventures Billy & Mandy & most of the stuff on Toonami. They also used to air allot of good anime on the late night block to. The new owners of CN completely ruined it just from what I saw from channel surfing recently. After going back to CN after so long I’m all like; WTF have they done?

    • @mqgTWO96
      @mqgTWO96 6 років тому +9

      Abraham Muwanga: You obviously don't get it. Where did I say ONCE in my post that the shows of my generation were better than the recent ones? My point has nothing to do with that. Didn't I say that early 2010's Cartoon Network during the Adventure Time/Regular Show era was really good? I admitted that. 2010-2014 was like a Renaissance for CN. Plus, anyone being realistic without using nostalgia would realize that a network reliant on REBOOTS or TOY-LINES is on life support. Teen Titans Go!, PPG (2016), Ben 10 (2017), and Unikitty are all shows that were either rebooted or came from a toy franchise (such as LEGOS).
      The Cartoon Network I knew had ORIGINAL CREATIVITY with so much variety on their schedule plus they put afford into epic blocks, specials and promos as well. Back when our world wasn't dominated by social media/internet culture. Because nowadays most of our pop culture has been taken over by social media, which has had an impact on a lot of TV stations (including CN). Cable TV is dying while we only have reality TV and live sports left. Netflix, Hulu and other streaming services are the norm for entertainment now.

    • @mqgTWO96
      @mqgTWO96 6 років тому +5

      TheAtom: I totally understand you. I'll never be like it was when we were younger and honestly I don't think there's any hope for CN in the future, not because of nostalgia or shows being better than others, but because of the times we're living in like I explained in my original post. If you go back to 2010-2013 Cartoon Network when they had Adventure Time, Regular Show, Amazing World of Gumball, The Looney Tunes Show, Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc, Young Justice, Generation Rex, Sym-Bionic Titan, Thundercats (2011), Cartoon Planet (for reruns of classic shows), etc. all at once. They had a golden opportunity to make that era the greatest since the early to mid 2000's Cartoon Network of our time, but they failed, because a lot of the action shows got cancelled due to (long story no time explain) and they lost variety, then when TTGO entered in 2013 they started making more reboots and cheaper shows. Since then Regular Show is over and Adventure Time is about to end. I have no idea where they will go from here. But like I said before, I moved on long time ago.

I used to stay up late with my brother for Midnight Run (we'd pretend we fell asleep in front of the TV if we got caught up that late), and hearing those familiar tunes, hearing TOM, seeing the graphic aesthetic... Christopher Bunnell It's a shame, because they're still making solid content. Say what you will about Steven Universe, but you at least have to admit that it's a competent series that doesn't pull many punches. Most people, myself included, are of the opinion it's quite good. Most people can also agree that shows like Gumball and Adventure Time are quite good after they've seen a good bit of them.
      More recent outings like OK K.O and Mighty Magiswords are also pretty solid. It's a very different kind of vibe than the early 2000s, but there does seem to be a sense of unity of tone in the programming.
      The management is just absolutely terrible. Like, I realize that these are probably awkward times to run a TV network, it probably feels like nothing you do impacts anything, but my God, the scheduling, acquisition policy, everything is just so shoddy.
      I'm genuinely concerned for when Gumball and Adventure Time end, because at the rate they're going, they might only have like 4-5 current programs when they do, and that's a problem.
      As much as I think the scheduling is odd/bad, I realize it doesn't really matter that much nowadays. Where they *should* be focusing is in greenlighting new projects. Content is King in the times we live in. I might be wrong, but I feel like they have enough surplus Teen Titans Go money to make at least one more show happen fairly soon.

    1. Regular Show (1-16-2017)
    2. Adventure Time (9-3-2018)
    3. Steven Universe (1-21-2019)
    4. We We Bears (5-27-2019)
    5. The Amazing World Of Gumball
    (6-24-2019)

    I was born In 94, I personally think cartoon network fail off around 2008 when live action started to take over. Every since then Cartoon network has never made a recovery. They did had decent programming after the live era like adventure time, regular show, ninjago series & a couple more but the damage was already done & the quality of decent shows wasn't enough to get cartoon network back on track.

      even outisde toonami they used to have action adventure shows oldies. SUperfriends, the hanna barbera superheroes, swat kats. Probably some others I'm forgetting(thundarr). They weren't great but they showed that even from the beginning, that had a place(and they had samurai jack later). And I kinda liked johnny bravo. but Dexter, and powerpuff girls worked because they were humour shows that were partially action shows. Dexter had an ep about action heroes, superheroes, super robots, and two side shows about superheroes. And powerpuff girls were superheroes with action. Seriously, everything's gotten awful. Last good cartoon from CN was an action comedy if you ask me. Which one did they cancel first, batman brave and the bold or young justice... anyway I was talking about batman brave and the bold. Action and Humour. Ther'es a segment for that. And ther'es a segment for straight shows. Shows that aren't humour. Straight up action series. And not about some bumbling kid.

    I can understand why alot of people would turn away from CN at the time of 2008 but if they gave stuff like Adventure Time, Regular Show Gumball and Young Justice a chance they could that CN really was restored in the earlier 2010s. A shame though CN seems to be in a similar crappy state now like they were in 2008

      I going to be honest I think that 2008 is worse than 2007 and 2009(please don't kill me), the reason I say that because I even with the good shows came out this year like batman the brave and the bold, flapjack and total drama and the nood bumpers, there were a lot of shows came that was it was honestly mediocre (Johnny test, George of the jungle, Chop sock chooks, Skunk fu!, Bakugan) most of the classic cartoons like athemocracy said move to boomerang, toonami was cancelled in that year, and this was also the year that the schedule was getting lazy at the time , 2007 and 2009 was bad (the fall era and cn real respectively I mean come on I know can do better than those mistakes) but I have never been this disappointed as much as 2008

Chowder and Flapjack? Awesome! Noods Era? Not bad imo. CN Real and canning so many greats at once....literally killing themselves. Honestly, I tried giving what everyone calls the good shows of the Renaissance era like Adventure Time, Regular Show, We Bare Bears and Gumball a chance, but I didn't like that humor and animation style, I'm not saying they're bad shows, they just weren't for me. And actually, the only acquired show of the Stu Snyder era I genuinely loved was Skunk Fu, I even have the DVD's of it.

    Cartoon Network in the 90's and early 2000's era was always a great kids channel to watch. Cause in the 90's and early 2000's era, tv executives back then had always known what kids really wanted to see. They knew that kids wanted to see cartoons with some mature quality and other stuff in them that you wouldn't often see in cartoons today. They knew that kids didn't wanted to be treated like kids. They wanted to be treated like adults. And that is the true money making strategy, which the executives in the 90's and early 2000's era were able to understand that very well. But of course now we're in a time period where all current executives of this era, don't understand that. And It's weird. Cause when I look at certain companies such as Nickelodeon, Adult Swim, Marvel, and DC, I notice that they all give the fans what they wanna see. Also cause just like the executives during the 90's and early 2000's, they are able to understand their fans real well. Cartoon Network for some reason does not. And because of that, I feel like what they do as both a network and studio is just dumb and backwards. They don't listen to what the fans really want, they're always ignorant towards great ideas, they treat the animators like crap, and worst of all they're always playing things too safe. So at this point, I feel like Cartoon Network has changed in a way that is not pleasing to anyone.

    • @KingBishop
      @KingBishop 6 років тому +5

      Carl Bloke yeah I really don't get why Cartoon Network doesn't know how to listen to the fans. Cause Adult Swim does that very well, and they're just a nighttime block. And speaking of nighttime blocks, I still can't believe that Cartoon Network freaking lost to Nick at Nite in the ratings. Now it would make sense if Nick at Nite was airing new episodes of whatever show they have on there. But loosing to George Lopez and Two And A Half Men reruns is just unquestionable.

    • @carlbloke8797
      @carlbloke8797 6 років тому +7

      Scott Venture got that right. And I'm sick of the cord cutting excuse people are giving to CN's bad decisions instead of the real problem which is the president who has done nothing to fix CN or made an effort to understand what the fans actually want. If they want to learn the real way to make money they should learn by treating their own audience with respect. Not pander too them. This is more evident in the fact that did NOTHING to celebrate CN's 25th anniversary outside of 1 bumper which was just half arsed at best(I mean seriously dabbing and the hotline bling?). They didn't even add Regular Show in the bumper. This is just a disappointment compared to how well they celebrated CN in its 20th by combining old and new shows with quality promotion of bringing back Cartoon Planet, voting and cool bumpers. This just shows how little Miller cares about the actual and just cares more about using CN as a brand to sell toys. In fact it's even been said that she puts more effort in managing Adult Swim than the actual main channel so it's blatant favoritism.

    I absolutely couldn't agree more. Personally, I've never been able to get into cartoons Post 2008. Even when things were getting sour and all of the toons and blocks that I grew up with started dying, I tried my utmost to remain actively watching the channel. I survived through CN Real, HAR HAR Thardays, and TDI/6Teen. However, despite what good Regular Show and Adventure Time did, I found the premise of the shows so simple and dull that they didn't appeal to me. They still don't. Animation around that period changed as well, resulting to cartoon shows relying on trying to be modern and uncreatively funny by including smart devices and memes. I don't find it charming.
    Aside from that, CN City was my all-time favorite block. The bumpers were so high quality and there were many for each series. It was nice being introduced to these bumpers during the commercial break, like a breath of fresh air that perfectly portrayed the characters in the small duration. I enjoyed the crossovers and the iconic locations that were all convincingly sewed into a single community. No matter what time of the day it was, you were guaranteed to watch a GOOD show. Those days, I didn't leave the TV screen. There was always a reason for me to stay. New cartoons were just as good as the cartoons cartoons. It was a great time to be alive. CN were at their peak. So I would have to agree with this video title.

    I think Cartoon Network did sort of die in 2008, but then it got back on its feet and was resurrected from its death bed in 2010 all the way up until about 2013-2014. Now I would say that, baring the end of TTGO (or at least a return to when it didn't dominate the schedule and starve other shows of a chance to succeed), the network is likely to die for good.

      Alessandro Lira Disney XD (not Disney channel) Is truly amazing and I can’t begin to describe how happy I am that it exists. It has many things over Cartoon Network rn (especially scheduling). The thing that keeps them from overtaking CN is there ability to produce quality in-house content. In my opinion Disney XD’s only good original show still in production is Star vs. the forces of evil, whereas I find every single current CN original to be quite good (TTG isn’t a CN original). Disney XD is doing everything right it just isn’t able to produce quality originals like CN. Which is simply because it’s a subsidiary channel and doesn’t have a lot of funding for originals.

What I'm getting at it Cartoon Network, for the main part, showed cartoons 24/7 but as other kids networks got more popular with all those mentioned above, Cartoon Network followed. Cartoon Network to me was a network that catered to everyone (young and old). Now not everything CN did was wrong (I like some of the current shows) but it felt cliche to other networks, Which could be why some classic shows were dropped and it seemed Cartoon Network was done in 2008.

    CN did die in 2008 tho. DBZ, Toonami, Billy & Mandy, The top 5, Lazlo, Og Ben 10, Fosters, gym partner practically all the city age shows got removed. Og pokemon, Teen titans, kids next door, squirrel boy, class of 3000, Ed edd n eddy, one piece a LOTTA shows I can't remember right now. By summer all them shows/blocks were gone. Keep in mind I was still in elementary still in their demo but most of the new shows didn't do it for me. By the end of the year I would some shows sometimes but no longer all day every day like a year earlier.

      It similar to 1992-2008 in Asia (where I live) actually have alot less TTG or other reboots and instead have shows like Adventure Time, TAWOG, WBB ( We Bare Bears) and Sometimes old shows like Billy and Mandy, Courage the Cowardly Dog at midnight.

    I’m 27 and still start my channel surfing from Cartoon Network even though I know that there isn’t a single thing I want to watch on there. That’s how deep the roots of CN golden age are in us 90s kids.
    Also, besides CN, we had Toon Disney which was pretty much Disney plus on cable.

    I'm 22 and didn't watch Cartoon Network as much after 2008 because that's when almost all of my childhood shows had ended. I grew up watching shows like Ed, Edd n Eddy, Codename kids next door, Billy & Mandy, and many others

    Cartoon Network is a shell of its former self, not respecting their viewers and their content producers by focusing and airing only one show for a majority of the blocks of airtime on their channel, and rebranding a classic channel to air shows that already air on the main channel

    Lots of nostalgia talking with friends at school about shows, rushing home to watch toonami, staying up late during summer break watching adult swim. Things are so much different now, as an adult I don’t even watch cable tv anymore. I’m actually surprised streaming hasn’t killed most channels anyway.

    I am soo upset because I remember what it was like rushing home from school to catch the airing of all my favorite after school cartoons. Then over the weekends for my Saturday night cartoon premieres…I wish companies would stay true to themselves.When looking for leaders be sure to make they carry and share the same desires you do. This is how tradition is kept and honored.

    • @athemocracy
      @athemocracy  3 роки тому +1

      The only problem is that so few would watch Saturday/ weekend premieres. Smartphones, gaming and streaming distract audiences from staying on one network for even half an hour.

    I actually think that Cartoon Network was dead (at least to some degree) ever since Hanna-Barbera completely folded its business in around 2001 and henceforth completely merged with Warner Bros. then. What is in short form, *_I'm a 1992-to-2001 (really a 1992-to-1997) Cartoon Network person!_*

    To me, Cartoon Network never died, neither was it always alive, rather it was in a coma for a period of time. This is other wise known as the Dark Age of Cartoon Network. This coma lasted around 2 and half years from September 1st, 2007 (When the "Fall" era was introduced) to April 5, 2010 (The day the first episode of Adventure Time aired).

    • @athemocracy

      Adventure time cemented their coma with its obnoxious humour, nonsensical premise and unappealing art style.

    I will atleast give credit to snyder for trying to fix the network near the end of his run with cartoon planet. I will still agree he's part of the problem CN changed for the worse. However 2008 to me is not the year CN died. I know exactly the day not just CN but the state of western animation changed forever. November 8, 2009 is the day CN and the identity of western animation Died

    • @athemocracy

      I give credit for Snyder's revival; I have in multiple videos. This video was solely about the perspective of CN's decline in 2008.

      It's just to me the US premiere of big picture show was the last good thing to come out of CN(other then chowder and flapjack). I still agree 2008 was the turning point for CN's decline but the series finale of Ed, Edd n Eddy was the final nail on the coffin for me. I remember watching it the day it premiered. I did'int realized it at that point but that day marked the end of CN.

    thank you for the explanation. I was an avid Cartoon Network follower until 2008 when the network went down hill. I have always wondered what happened to cause this shift in momentum and now I know. Needless to say I miss that time period '92-'08. It was fun while it lasted.

    2007 was CN's last good year because all their best shows were getting cancelled so CN has been dying ever since 2008 when some of their best shows I watched the 2000s were cancelled but CN had a lot of good shows in the 2010s so I'd say it died around the late 2010s when shows like Adventure Time, Regular Show, Gumball, and Steven Universe ended.
