Ah those wheel scythes were always a death trap, I don't know why whoever employed the use of them throughout history ever thought they were a good idea. Rocks, shields, spears etc were always capable of overturning a chariot when they made contact. I think Alexander even countered them by actually letting them through the lines, leaving the operators completely exposed.

I don't agree with you1 Chariots are pretty useful! Especially the ones that are big enough to hold a bowman, spear thrower and a swordsman!! Chariots evolved over time the newer ones are way more practical for battles! The problem with chariots is they really can only be used on open ground and flat land otherwise you're risking the speed and practical use. For example it would be pointless to use chariots in the forest or rocky terrain! Keep in mind some lords and kings used chariots without the scythes attached and had a few armed men on board to protect him!
against well-trained armies maybe. but "letting them through" is a complicated maneuver to make if the army hasn't been trained for this. everyone needs to know what they are supposed to do the split second the order is given. if the troop cannot react in time, or there's been no specific instruction on this point, people panic, formation breaks, and real slaughter begins

Charging the front line into battle with a chariot never made much sense. Using them at a distance with archers along the perimeter of the battlefield makes much more sense.

Awesome movie and pretty accurate of what I know of the Roman empire
No ofence, but you need to study/learn more this is a movie and it's main purpose is to entertain, as far as gladiator fights, they were for most part performers (WWE style) not just mindless slaughtering each other in every event.

I'm a Christian and I shouldn't say that, but I would have liked to have been a spectator at such a spectacle. Not to see the convicts dying in the arena, but more to feel that electricity, that thrill and that tension that is in the air as a spectator.
It must have been exhilarating for sure, although way different from the choreographed and spectacular version we see here

Tbf in real life most of the time they didnt actually die in the gladiatorial bouts just fight until injured, the reason for this is because it wouldn’t make any financial sense to train up a gladiator only for them to immediately die so instead they’d be injured and unless the crowd or the emperor calls for it they’d be left alive
