Wine Folly has made huge contributions to my wine education, but your presentation style has mesmerized me as well. I swear I would watch you read the phone book. Good thing I am learning about wine too. Thanks for what you do. And Peace Out!
You’re right! I’m just showing the most widely emulated wines that have french-origin grapes. CdP has a foundation in Garnacha which has been proven to be from the Iberian peninsula 🇪🇸
Even though I'm pretty good wine wise this was a useful reminder, and also a good xmas prompt for some wimes I don't normally buy, like Merlot( yes, I'll be watching Sideways over xmas)😀
@@winefolly 0:38 "Did you know that of the top 10 grape varieties planted worldwide, 7 originate from France?" Proceeds to list 6 French grape varieties in the list. Malbec is later mentioned in the video to round out 7 French grape varieties, but isn't one of the top 10.
I have tested a lot of wines as my father is a wine importer. Without being snobbish I can honestly say that France makes some of the best wines in the world. The new world wines can be good, but almost never reach this level. But unfortunately the market is well aware of this so you pay ridiculous money for the most famous French wines. 😂 Blame rich people who pay for the brand, and who mix it with coca cola….
Almost never means sometimes they do. Even blind judges by the top French judges. See 'The Judgement Of Paris', 1976 I believe. Year after year for sometime many countries are represented in the top 10. France is not the only country with sun and dirt. Additionally, many French winemakers have been working abroad and training abroad for decades, so there's that.
Aside from that, I have been disappointed paying up for French wines, just as much as I have been disappointed paying up for wines from other regions. The game is global, plain and simple.
I am a simple man, if I see “Grand vin de Bordeaux” on the bottle, I buy it. If I see “made in china,” I curse. If I see “Chateau Mouton Rothschild” - then I know I am daydreaming.
I mean this full must have been a school teacher cuz when you're taping stuff up on a wall it looks like a chalkboard listen go back to your basement and stop talking about wine this is amateur night😅😅😂
Absolutely the best wine educator out there! Cheers 🥂

You’re too kind! Thank you for the support and love!
You had me at “Sancerre” and “Chablis”. Love that map at 5:22.
oooo yeah! Those are the ones.
Another adorable and informative video ❤Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great tutorial! I was just in Paris and had many of these varietals- extraordinary! 🎉🇫🇷
wow that sounds like a delightful adventure!
Great video! I would've guessed that Sauternes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape or even Beaujolais would be considered more "famous" than Cahors or Meursault

Great geography lesson - thank you!
I hope it helped you get a better understanding of French wines!

Always my favorites
that would be a stellar line up actually.
I am about to order my Christmas wine. I'll get two bottles ; a Champagne and a good Bordeaux.
yum yum yum! Any favorites from BDX? (omg the 2020s are lit!)
🎉
Happy Tastung Salute
Thanks.Wine Folly
0:45: I thought Syrah (Shiraz) originated in Persia (present day Iran).
That’s very astute! This was a longtime theory that was disproven with DNA analysis.
1:07 When did China annex Kyrgyzstan? 😅
How is it possible you didn’t mention?
Châteauneuf-du-Pape
No worries! I got you! ua-cam.com/video/aLCocZki2tA/v-deo.html
"For less expensive Chablis style wines go to Macon"... Petit Chablis be like d'awww :(
Awe! You're so right! Petit Chablis is nummers! Priced very similarly to Macon wines.
7=6?
Do you mean the nine regional wines include 3 crafted of Chardonnay? Is that what you are expressing? Not sure what this means.

ah yes! good eye! A mistake!
Americans always like to say, a wine pairs well with lamb, but how many Americans eat lamb on the regular?
I mean, less and less. We mostly eat chicken it feels like.
Hey hey hey don't forget Canada. Niagara region is kicking a** in cool climate chardonnay.
It certainly does
Question of taste ; red ones i prefere italians

Based on what you said at the end, I really do believe your dad is a wine importer. It sounds like you've seen a lot!

Yeah, that's like seeing a Ferrari Monza SP1 in the wild.
No boujolais nouveau?
it deserves honorable mention.
"Sauvignon BlanK" 😢
Yes sad face indeed. I can't help but enunciate all the consonants in "blanc." Otherwise the "c" feels left out.
@@winefolly Well it is supposed to be left out!
Original wine influence? thats SHIRAZ city and from IRAN, not french!!! read history not story...
This theory has since been disproven through DNA analysis, but it’s certainly a great story!

???
A wine channel troll. Too much!
I wish! But they don't let wine into classrooms because then y'all kiddos would never learn how to spell :)
