Sorry to say it, y'all, but you're not going to stop crying. The nice thing is that Frieren does happy tears, because it's about caring/sharing, not pain. I love the way they throw in just enough humor to keep it from getting too heavy.

I see you're already experiencing the phenomenon where you hear Himmel's voice at the beginning of a flashback and instantly have to fight for your life to not bawl your eyes out. Good.

I love that this show consistently breaks the mold of the "Nothing good ever comes from speaking with the dead" expectation that people have.
That eventual reunion in Ende is going to shatter us all to pieces.

The wonderful thing about Frieren is not that it's able to make people consistently cry so much, but that so often the tears are tears of joy and beauty..

The composer for Frieren's soundtracks is Evan Call, known for composing beautiful soundtracks for animes like Violet Evergarden, My Happy Marriage and Josee, The Tiger And The Fish. Up until the latest season of Frieren (28 episodes) he composed 70 soundtracks for Frieren alone, and all of those are bangers. If you like what you have been hearing so far, I assure you that you won't be disappointed continuing on. And in case you're wondering you can hear the full album of the soundtracks in Spotify.

Been watching anime since the 90s but this one is the best show ive seen so far. The writing and direction is just that good that ive teared up from episode one to the last episode in this season

There is wonderful video essay called "When you tell an entire story in 9 minutes". It explains how Frieren is written and why it has no fillers. The writing follows something called "bracketed ideas". The show is structured in a way that it builds its setups very meticulously and preemptively which allows for the pay-off to be very satisfying and not artificially shoehorned afterwards. Not only this but the pay-offs does not end up there. They continues being explored and having impact in other episodes which add nuances to the themes, character and the world. And this is why there are no fillers in this show. Because everything have meaning in the whole picture.
Another thing is that the show is grounded and realistic. A lot of people fall into the trap of the anime tropes while watching it - expecting power levelling, flexing and screaming who is who, which lead to someone getting stronger etc. But here the struggles are internal.
The relationships are very human like, instead of being hyperbolic and on the nose. Every action has consequences in the world the show is developed.

gandalf said: I wont tell you not to cry, for not all tears are an evil --- Ive learned to embrace the tears. why would I not let my eyes get wet when my heart is overwhelmed with joy and happiness? the beauty of the world is deserving of one's tears

this show is so effortless in its sadness. its not even necessarily just sad, its so unashamedly real as well, and that rawness of emotions slowly culminates in the watcher until they shed tears. the sadness isn't sudden and it doesn't smack you in the face like most animes. Also the stoicism of the characters in this show or lack of facial expression leaves so much for interpretation when it comes to how characters are actually feeling. it lets watchers decide the emotions and their severity themselves instead of trying to hold your hand walk you through the emotions. This show is just so incredible and unique like that in it's own way.
I also love the way this show tackles the idea of religion. it doesn't focus on 'how' it exists like most discourse these days, but instead focuses on 'why' it should exist. That's probably why Heiter was a priest worthy of being in such a prestigious and powerful group like the hero's party. His faith is not shaken up by the logic of how a heaven could even exists because he simply believes it should even if it doesn't make sense. his faith is formed by his unwavering desire for good instead of the belief in an entity that we never get to see like god.

Flamme's JP voice actress 'Atsuko Tanaka' passed last August 20, 2024. Her role as Flamme in this series is one of her last performances.
I hope you appreciate such a gentle yet wise voice as I do🙏

Always great to see new appreciation for Frieren.
+ Points for choosing to go sub (which can be a challenge for some) because while the dub is above decent, they took too many liberties in their translations and reinterpretations

I remember when I was first watching this episode, I thought Fern would say "Miss Frieren only brought me because Mister Heiter tricked her." but instead she said "Miss Frieren promised Mister Heiter." Fern knew that Heiter tricked Frieren (ep 2, when Frieren was pouring booze on his grave) and yet Fern says that Frieren "promised" him. In my head, I just find it really wholesome.

When she says a 'mere ten-years adventure' at the end, she doesn't mean it the same as before. Frieren now understand, in a somewhat limited fashion still, _what_ those ten years will be. She's echoing herself almost self-deprecatingly.

I always thought it was weird that Fern seemed to interpret Heiter sometimes clicking his tongue at Frieren to be a really serious thing and in the flashback Himmel tells Heiter he's being too harsh on her, but then a friend of Japanese descent told me that in several countries in Asia a parent or teacher or similar authority figure clicking their tongue at you that way was 100% an "Oh, crap. I'm cooked" moment, kind of like when a Latino or black parent gives you The Look (tm).

Actually a lot is happening in each episode. What is happening is subtle and is below the main plot. There is a wonderful video essayist who goes very deep in the theory behind Frieren's story telling and nuanced characters - Pay Talks Anime. He digs deep trying to theoretically explain why each episode of Frieren is very dense when it comes to the story, the development of the characters and the world and themes building and expression, and yet - it feels like nothing happens.
As an ex-writer I can share that if there are aspiring writers out there they should have this show as the ultimate target they should reach. The writers deserve an Oscar if this was a thing in anime.
I am joining you on this masterpiece of a journey.

Actually, it is better to listen to it after you have watched at least episode 7.

"Then I, Flamme the legendary mage will help you"
You can say what you want about Flamme, she was confident in her magic. That woman materialised her own legend through sheer willpower xD (SPOILER)

Considering what she taught Frieren, and her level of confidence, I think that's why Flamme is the only apprentive who left her mark on History. Because she was the only one to know the full power of magic, and yet ended up not being intimidated or belittled by it it. She saw the most incredible mage in the world and yet she could still call herself "great" without hesitation. She's got the confidence xD

Finally someone who honestly comments that the opening song does not match the opening/show itself (music-wise, lyrics = good). Plenty of other people in reactions just go autopilot mode "oooh what a nice opening song", and half the time I doubt that they really mean it.That opening just badly clashes with any other beautiful music piece that follows when the episode actually begins.

This series probably spiked the stock prices of Kimberly-Clark because of everyone buying Kleenex. I think for its 28 epi run, I cried in at least 12 epis.

Stupid show... Making me feel emotional stuff that makes me cry! Finding out that Frieren is 1000 years old and was the student of a mage that that's looked at as a fairy tale. Awesome!
