- Michael Scott Moore is a novelist and journalist, who was kidnapped by Somali pirates and spent two and half years in captivity. His book "The Desert and the Sea: 977 Days Captive on the Somali Pirate Coast" is available on Amazon now: www.amazon.com...
He should have had Rick from Pawn Stars negotiate his ransom.
Pirate: ".. We demand $20mm for this man."
Rick: "Highest I can go is $8.75".
tsnorquist "its just not something that we can really resell, thanks for coming in and showing him to me though"
"you gotta keep in mind that I have to sell this as well, it might sit on the shelf for a couple years before it's gone."
We got to send him away to get fixed and clean up. Not really a market for him so it’s hard to put a price on it. If you don’t mind let me call someone to look at it.
"I don't know much about somali pirates, I've got a buddy that loves somali pirates. I'll give him a call."
Les Gold: What's the least you will take?
Joe "Correct Me If I'm Wrong" Rogan
Moore: That's wrong
Lol
Lmao
I want to take a second to acknowledge Joe, and how he has really single handedly brought real meaningful news and interesting intelligent human beings to our level for our well being. He is one of few people in his position that really uses it as a platform to inform us. Thank you Joe what the fuck is up with your shoulders bitch Rogan.

The empathy and forgiveness this man shows is really uplifting and I hope I can be half the man this guy is.
I started listening to Joe no matter what guest he has … it always turns out interesting, he's such a great guy to talk to.
But this is a whole new level of fascinating! Thanks so much for enlarging the likeable, graspable world by leaps and bounds!
ep 1150.. get the pirates on, lets hear their side.. we will pay the ransom...... dont worry
Tokin Scottish Guy I seriously would watch the fuck out of that. I know joe wants to try some khat
I love how Joe doesn’t care about being ignorant about things like not knowing what a “bulwark” was or what the Seychelles are. He has no shame admitting he doesn’t know and just asks the person straight up what they are. Not easy to do if you let your ego get in the way.
Ben N that's actually the biggest reason I watch Joe.
He had no choice to admit it there. He didnt do his homework
Bert Bert derp derp
Ben N definitely a sign of intelligence as well. ive seen neil degrasse tyson do it many times as well
Spot on. There's nothing wrong with asking questions if you don't know something.

Brilliant Bill joe is so condescending and overwhelming exagerates with his sighs and expressions especially when talking about science and space.
Looky looky: Condescending? You sure you're using the right word? He just seems really interested to me.
YES, much prefer this stuff to celebrity-hollywood types.
Joe secretly wants to try caht.
Hell yeah. Khat sounds bomb
Same tbh lol. I've heard in some cities in the US you can find it in Somali communities.
Its not that special. The high is like strong coffe with a little weed. But when I took it i gave a girl her first orgasm in her life.LOL

Only about 27 mins in watching it for the second time, I notice he pushes through the story and the facts, but is also so evidently scarred by it. Obviously it is expected, but it really makes you appreciate how brave he was to share this. His whole body language changes at times because of the memories, but he pushes through. Respect.
The issue is JR and his weak ass conversation and interview skills. If he just stopped neurotically trying to control this particular interaction we would be able to enjoy some kind of natural flow of narrative. Anyways, not hating on Joe, just upsetting to see time and time again some guest not being able to freely share and reduced by Joe's weird ADHD...
For some reason, I see it in Joe's eyes, I wanna picture he's thinking of Captain Sparrow every time he repeats pirate.
As I was watching this episode, I couldn't help but think that Joe would be a juicy target for a pirate. He's worth millions of dollars, famous, and beloved.
But as I thought about it more, I realized Joe would be the absolute WORST person to kidnap. Think about it.
Dana White would fund the money for a rescue operation because piracy is FUCKING ILLEGAL.
Eddie Bravo would fly a jet to Joe's location and spray it down with chem trails to weaken Joe's captors.
Joe's immaculate gut health thanks to ONNIT ™ brand probiotics would allow him to endure the chemtrail spray unscathed.
Putting Joe alone in a hot prison cell would just enable him a distraction-free environment to do hot yoga 24/7, making him even stronger over time.
Bill Burr would be able to fly the rescue team in with his helicopter.
Brian Redban would supply everyone with Rhino 2 boner pills to keep them awake and on alert through the long travel in Bill Burr's helicopter.
Young Jamie would use his illegally-obtained Huawei phone to hack the GPS location of Joe and his captors.
Brendan Schaub would be the first one out of the helicopter, smashing everyone in his path with straight rights while screaming "GADOOSH!"
Eddie, fresh from his spray session, would be flying-triangling every Somali in his path.
Tim Kennedy would be perched inside the helicopter, miles away, sniping strategically.
Cam Hanes would take a more stealthy approach, skulking around the perimeter with his bow before the main crew arrived, picking off guards one by one.
Joey Diaz would hop off the chopper high on edibles, Tommy Gun in hand, yelling, "COME GET SOME, COCKSUCKAS!"
And finally, once they freed Joe, Joe would give the main guard a THUNDEROUS spinning back kick to the chest that sends him flying off the edge of the flat earth.
GSP would come galloping in on a T-Rex and have Joe get on the back for an epic prehistoric escort back to the chopper.
Once Joe was back at his studio HQ, Yoel Romero would give him a stool and a Cuban cigar to help him recover and Bryan Callen would serve Joe cheese and wine, before they all feasted on wild buffalo cooked on Joe's pellet grill.
Moral of the story? Don't fuck with Joe "Pull that sucker up to your mouth" Rogan, or you will regret it.

Oh wow, Now that's a story.
This guy is incredible.
Eh
Starscraper Joes mind was blown , u can tell in sequences. Hes hella knowledgeable, so if hes fucking mind blown u know its deep
Joe's overall well spirited and honest, but making him an authority on anything but mixed martial arts is a long stretch, and I have been following him for more than ten years (early JRE - him, Eddy Bravo, Joey Diaz chillin on a sofa; I loved all Duncan Trusell episodes). The story of this episode is beoynd the depths of any of us. Let's agree on that.
I don't get why people always pile these unwarranted expectations on Joe. He frequently clainms to be a dumb ass, but he is learning an amazing amount pretty much every episode. The huge majority of people in the world will go their entire lives without a single 3 hour conversation on a topic they are unfamiliar with, all the while asking questions and increasing their scope of experience.
The mix of guests he has is second to none and I am sure he doesn't have the desire to master anything he hasn't already started to become proficient in. Look at his reaction to things he discovers that truly intrigue him: martial arts, podcasts, comedy, hunting etc. He also continues to add to these even in his 50's. People who knock Joe like that are pure salty that they will never have his drive, competence or come anywhere close to his level of success in multiple arenas.
'Nuff said. Great episode, did they mention an audiobook? I don't recall, will have to check audible, this would be great hiking material to get lost in with the headphones.
Naim Wiveld great comment.
This story is just insane. Glad he got back home and living his life normally.

I love Joe but sometimes he drops the ball a bit as an interviewer. How did his mom pay them the money? How did they meet? How did he get free? All really important and interesting questions. Guess I’ll have to read the book...
They brought up and answered all of these questions in the episode. Mom reached out to family, friends, and magazines he had worked for. Met the day of the interview. They brought the bail down to 1.6 and he was freed after 2 years 8 months.
Ian... I'm sure he means he wanted more specifics because I did as well. That could be a movie in of itself. An old lady negotiating and arranging her son's ransom, and then the actual trade. If he wasn't sitting in that chair telling the story I'd of certaintly expected the pirates to have killed him rather than returned him even after recieving the money. Just seems safer that way.
Glink are u deaf or something?
Well this guy does want to leave some information for people to have to read the book to learn. Or other topics may be triggers for him. I imagine they spoke prior to this and did a run down of what was on the table.

One of the best JRE podcasts's ever. When Joe shows his curiosity about any subject and leaves his subject to answer his questions he's at his best. Mr Moore's views on PTSD are the most realistic I've heard from anyone.
I'm so glad we have somebody like joe to give us real interesting interviews with honest questions and answers. Also, props to mr. I have never heared the word in english but it's a common expression in german. Michael Scott Moore holds german citizenship and lives in berlin so he must have mixed up the languages . Happens to me all the time concerning both english and german
