- Britain's biggest shopping centre owner Intu has fallen into administration but says its sites will remain open and continue to trade.
The collapse of the group, which owns the Trafford Centre in Manchester, the Metrocentre in Gateshead and Lakeside in Essex, will arguably be the most significant corporate casualty of the coronavirus pandemic so far.
The appointment of KPMG comes after talks with creditors stalled.

Shopping Malls have been dying everywhere for years
The Arndale and Trafford Centre have been keeping Intu afloat for years now. Someone will buy them as soon as they can drive down the price, it been sold before for 1.6 billion.

*Wow! By UK standards, Intu is a huge company. Although it should be remembered that they're **_'only'_** the bricks and mortar owners of this chain of out-of-town shopping malls. So it doesn't mean any jobs are lost in the retail outlets who lease units within these malls. Plus as it has gone into administration - as opposed to liquidation, I'm pretty sure some consortium will step in to take it on as a going concern. That's assuming of course that the UK isn't plunged into any 2nd or 3rd Covid-19 lockdown. But please God, don't allow it to be Sir Philip Green! Fingers crossed.*

It’s like the government has just decided that the pandemic is over (when it’s clearly not) so now there’s no going back. Everything is going a million miles per hour because seemingly the economy is more important than people’s lives. It feels scary to think 42,000 odd people have died in three months yet we’re all going about our days like it never happened!
Shame. Really sad..but I think it's a bit too early to draw anything from this yet.
The lockdown is easing and we'll have to wait and see if customers resume going to these malls - which I think they will.
The mall is technically at a sale price so it's more than likely someone with capital will snap it up.
During the lockdown, there are those who experienced an uplift on earnings (depending on the sector of course) and many consumers haven't had the opportunity to spend money so they have a large amount sitting in their bank account.
So let's not lose confidence - it isn't over by a long shot.

Though totally unrelated but I think Australia should start preparing itself for the upcoming war . In india we have deployed troops, tanks , fighter jets etc , japanese are also bolstering their defences by increasing deployment of troops and ballistic missiles at border and usa is also sending troops with aircraft carriers but Australia is somehow very silent and relaxed .
