English Mastiffs are really protective and yet one of the most gentle and easiest breeds in the world. I am now a Mastiff for life person. I cannot imagine not having a Mastiff for the rest of my days!
I love the conversation between you two where Rachel is asking about the comfort level with off-leash walking and Will's understanding and honesty. I think I'm more on the side of Rachel with my comfort - although I envy Will's confidence! Please continue these FANTASTIC videos! They are so helpful!
Kelvin Shine - 100% agree, isn't she, like, super-cute in that harness, looking like a little dumpling on legs... Shouldn't say that though: after all, she'll be an awe-inspiring huge Mastiff quite soon, but the cute-factor is enormous!
I went from Rottweilers to English Mastiff and back to Rottweiler just because of what we wanted to do as far as training. Wonderful breed. Literally the best with kids.
My husband works away from home, and my groomer had a litter of Dobermans. We had lost our Ridgeback mix so we really needed a deterrent dog, as my 89 y. o. Mom and I live alone. I had been in the pile of 12 puppies since they were born basically. I wasn't ever thinking of getting one - who wouldn't want to do that? So he arranged it and I got the biggest girl. He got her board and train for 2 weeks and it was great. But she is such a high energy wild butt. Every time she comes out of her room, my mom grabs on to something, even though Athena send to get that she is fragile. I'm 4'11" with degenerative arthritis and a plate in my neck. Our saving grace is that we have almost an acre of fenced in back yard, and a 2.5 y. O. Rescue lab mix. My son will get out his drone and they will run and jump all over the yard. Athena is high energy, but she doesn't jump on me, but she can run into you at top speed and you'll go winding. I made the mistake of letting her sleep with me, since the lab already did and I thought she'd get her feelings hurt. She wakes me by slapping my face with a paw. In retrospect, shoulda kept her in the crate. Most of our dogs have been labs but Athena is 10x smarter than our smart labs, but she uses her power for evil sometimes! Also she is my Velcro dog, she always has to have me in sight if I'm home, same with my grandson. We got her last November and my husband saw her at Thanksgiving for 3 days as part of his time she was at board and train. Then he saw her at Christmas and I took her to Jacksonville to see him in January 2020. The next time he was with her was Christmas Holiday. He works on base, so there are so many rules and with my mom's age it just wouldn't work out. Athena would be a much better behaved dog if he were here often. I have her e collar, but when she was at board and train, it left circles that are white I assume from high jolts. I rarely put it on her unless we're out in stores socializing. I love your baby! We also looked at German Shepherds and Malinois. With already having a lab mix, that turned out to be part German Shepherd when we did her DNA, the thought of a full German Shepherd would have been so much hair is have to vacuum multiple times a day! I love the Malinois, however I'd already snuggled with 12 Doberman puppies and knew her mom, dad and grandad (135 lb. American Doberman who loves me so much.). Her dad would hear the outside door open and would run and leak over the Dutch doors, springing off his back feet and landing at the door. I've seen more people run from him, cracks me up. I guess I already knew 3 adibermans that I could snuggle and pet at will so they didn't worry me like getting a Malinois that I've never known anyone. I think the energy level is about the same, but dobies don't bite when training for the most part, because they have scissor teeth. Anyway, sorry for the novel, but I look forward to seeing Eileen, but I knew you mentioned a Dobie and mine is perfection.
We've owned 4 Bullmastiffs and now have an English Bullterrier who is approaching 9 years old. We are thinking about another Bullmastiff in the not too distant future as I am lost without one. I would love an English Mastiff but do not have the room for one, sadly. You are correct though, once you have had a Mastiff-type dog be it Bullie or English, there is no going back. The reason we chose an EBT over another Bullie, was because we lost our Bullies fairly young due to cancer and we couldn't stand the emotional pain it caused, but once they are in your heart..well you probably know what I mean. Eileen is super cute, she is going to be so much cuddly fun ❤
Can I post a question here? I don't have an Instagram account, though I might ask my fiancee to post one for me on there. My fiancee and I were on the waiting list for an English Mastiff from Womlu when we saw that you had bought one from her too. Is there anything about owning an English Mastiff that you've learned that you didn't already know going in? or anything that you've had to deal with/train for that you weren't expecting? EDIT: Please never stop making these videos. We absolutely love seeing Eileen grow, and it's making us more and more excited to get ours.
My goodness- i just want to squeeeeeze that adorable face. Beautiful and huge pup! I have a kangal pup checking in at 35lbs at 10 weeks of age. We'll be on this ride together! I'll be tuning in for tips the whole way. Great videos
Love every episode of you guys sharing details step by step. I hope you will keep uploading such valuable and entertaining vlogs and it wont stop once WILL starts making international business trips.. Cheers
Great choice! I don't know who got ahold of these various mastiff-type breeds 100 years ago or so (probably mostly English folks like yourselves), but they did a helluva fine job on breeding for temperament---so many are just big, lovable lugs! Gotta love them, though I'm a hound dog man myself (coonhounds here in the U.S.). Eileen is just a big super cute doll-baby. She'll handle like a dream, especially after all the great training two super-conscientious people like you two will give her. Lots of fun times ahead!
Eileen is a great choice for you guys in your current circumstances. Cannot wait for you to get a Doberman when you have the time. I have a 7 month old Dobe and she has been the best thing I’ve ever done. Smart, loyal, energetic and so much lust for life !
Rachel you look stunning today with your outfit and hat! I am looking forward to following this journey especially with you taking lead. We’re getting a Newfoundland puppy in a couple months. And I’ll be taking lead on training her since I am home and my fiancé is at work all day. I’ve never trained a dog before so I’m excited to learn more from your guys channel and follow along with my own journey.
I agree 100% with your philosophy on manners. My miniature poodle weighs 7kg, but I have mobility /balance issues so even he could knock me over if he jumped up. I find the hardest thing is training PEOPLE to ignore the undesirable behaviour because he" looks cute"!! It's so frustrating!
Serendipity, got brother Filas almost the same day you got Eileen. I was watching your vid’s before Eileen and it’s nice to go through the Big Dog journey with Professionals. I’ll be watching every ep. and hope you do many. Q&A is great. Interestingly you posted a video about Filas at about the same time. Serendipity. Cheers!
I think, with big breeds it is extremely important to start leash trainning early, because they get strong fast and walks could be an issue. With a tiny dog is easier.
I've had an Italian mastiff before (cane corso) after she passed away my wife and I got an English mastiff and she is definitely more lazy but very gentle, also very sensitive, super lovey-dovey still has the stubborness of any mastiff breed but definitely more manageable then a cane corso. She is 4 months.
I love these videos where you answer questions and also your probably already planning this but I think we would love it if you also put up some videos where your just showing how your training Eileen also just wanted to say Eileen looks so adorable in her harness 😊
@@eileenthemastiff7731 thank you, we couldn’t have made a better choice, Teddy is the biggest smoochy baby. After having many rescue dogs & cats, our first pure breed puppy is perfect. English Mastiffs is a rare dog in Australia, all of the breeder are very strict & all know each other & will not breed with a dog/bitch with medical or temperament issues, teddy just got his full papers for breeding & we have 2 registered breeder wanting to use him ♥️
Rachel I know you will be awesome with Eileen! I'm a single mom myself and my boy at 7 mo is about to outweigh me soon, but this breed is amazing and if I can get him as obedient as he is without your fabulous man on call, I'm sure you will have the most perfect EM lady :D. As far as the question one person had about giant breeds interacting with other people who may be frail, my Odin knows that in order to get pets (so far he hasn't met a person I introduce him to that he doesn't want pets from!), he has to be in a down position. We have worked on this since he was able to be picked-up, so at the size where he could knock people over there really is never any jumping/pawing/pushing. The times when he does push his boundaries and *really* wants to be petted, he has been known to down then do a slow "Army crawl" with a hugely wagging tail towards the person he would love to get pets from, lol.
Love the videos with Rachel! Had to pause it though to comment: The thought of elderly ladies walking their Yorkies down the street, and suddenly seeing that tall Wiking-dude with tattoos, walking his massive Bullmastiff - and holding their dogs up above their heads, lol! Laudable bravery though, trying to protect their dogs from the warrior-dude and his war dog!
Love the Stevie Nicks hat Rachel! Been meaning to get one for ages! Working my way through your puppy course I got my boxer the day before you got Eileen so excited to work my way through with you. Also have a friend getting a lab who I have recommended you to x
Will and Rachel, I'm loving this! Eileen is gorgeous and it's great that Rachel is taking the lead role in training. My question is (maybe more for Will) what differences, if any, you notice between training Eileen and training Roxy? Thanks and thanks for sharing Eileen with us.
Please please keep the comments open! I love your videos! I own a nearly 15 year old Rottie/Sheperd, a 10.5 year old Landseer Newfoundland, a 3/4 Irish Wolfhound/1/4 Dane that is 2.5 years old, and an English Mastiff likely mixed with Boerboel, Corso, Bull Mastiff that is 2.25 years old? I never bonded stronger than with a Mastiff!
Sad hearing Will say how he looks as well as having big dog can make people cross road. To Will I say you are a really nice person and I love all your videos.
I have a great dane tilly and I have found that most people are drawn to her. Nobody has crossed the road to avoid her.. I have been balling my eyes out watching the videos about Mabel 😢
I have the opposite problem. I have a shy, reactive Aussie. (Working with him) people think they can come up and cuddle him. My friend has a rottie that loves to cuddle. People are afraid of him. So ironic.
Great choice for the right reasons. Cant wait till you train your future Dob. Ive had one in the past and i loved him. Great protection stories if your interested.🤣🤣🤣 just such a cool breed
Eileens looking bigger already!! I have a labrador and even with him i have people crossing the streets or picking their small dogs up when they see him. I dont really mind too much even though I know hes good with other dogs and can be well behaved with strangers especially young children. But I know he can look intimidating especially when he has his headcollar on a lot of people think it looks like a muzzle he doesnt always wear his headcollar only in public for that extra control as he can be a puller in busy places because he gets too excited but he walks perfectly for me on his regular walks.
Rachel and Will you two are my absolute favorites. Would you all ever consider getting a Malinois? I have two and most likely going to get a 3rd in the near future. They are the best breed I've ever owned. I can't say enough about their loyalty and intelligence.
My family is getting our first mastiff puppy in the upcoming weeks, as the litter was just born this past weekend. I love your videos, they have been so good in helping us to choose our new family companion. Would you give any advice on how I should continue to move forward as a first time mastiff owner, such as best equipment for training as well as in general/daily use?
Cool video, can you please consider doing a video on why you chose Eileen specifically over her litter mates. Or was she the only puppy available to choose from? Cheers.
Please keep going with your wonderful videos. I know that ALL dogs should be well mannered, but I find that if I'm walking our great dane, then she has to be better behaved than most other dogs simply because of her size. Where I live the small dog owners frequently create difficulties by not having full control over their dogs. Please could we have more videos addressing this topic of the reality of having a large dog out in public. Thanks so much.
Hey team, thanks for the uploads. My english mastiff Luna is 6 months now. You might get to this in future videos but i wanted to talk about English Mastiff enthusiasm levels. As you know they are very lazy! Luna is very well behaved, she can be off leash, she sits like a champion. However, sometimes I have troubles with recall and heel mainly because she is slow and is just "getting around to it" there is no sense of urgency in listening to me. Let me know how you go with training on these items and let me know if there is anything more i can be doing to get her immediate attention. Thanks, loving the videos. Nadine
Cross the road to avoid a big dog? After previously having an English Mastiff, I tend to run to them and had the exact opposite experience where everyone wanted to know what kind of dog he was, if he was friendly (as he was begging to be petted) and how much he ate. GOD English Mastiffs are the the most gentle, sweet, delicious dogs EVER and mine would run to any person he saw to get petted and loved.
Do you feed Eileen the same brand of raw dog food, as you do with the older dogs? If so what brand do you use and is there raw meals especially made for puppies?
What made you start using a harness for Eileen? Is this for when she gets a lot bigger and starts to pull? Is this better than a collar to teach not to pull on the leed as a puppy? How are you getting on with Eileen training? Is she still being a little stubborn or coming along nicely?
I don’t want to answer this question that’s for them but I don’t think it’s because of the pulling because I think they are already teaching Eileen to heel walk
Congratz on Eileen. She looks absolutely adorable. Not all your videos allows comments, so this is more of a generel thing. I think the pictures you use in your videos needs to be freshed up a bit. Always the same pictures. In some of your top 10, there are times when there isn't included pictures of the dog you are presenting. That's a bit of a shame.. Otherwise, great work guys :)
Hello. Males of this Breed being the size of poneys, I would like to ask if you have any notion at all of how much these dogs eat when offered a RAW BARF diet (with bones). Could you please give me an approximate notion in kg? Also, is BARF the best way to help these INCREDIBLE dogs surpass the 10 year lifespan threshold? Thank you.
I love English Mastiffs but couldn't handle the drool so getting a Leonberger again but our last was female already debating a sign to carry saying no doesn't have a saddle and yes it's friendly which I'm sure you will get with Eileen although a lot of people think Leonbergers are shepherd mixes so think their mean and cross roads and pick little dogs up 🤦♀️🤦♀️ our last used to pretend to be a bear for local infant school that did a teddy bear picknic every Yr in the park we hid in the trees and the teachers had the 5 Yr olds look for bears unfortunately the people who don't like big dogs don't see that or the PAT dog she was going into care homes to visit the residents
I love Leonbergers, I was debating them or my Mastiff but I just don't have as much time as I would like too keep up with grooming. Maybe in the future :)
@@sashastoddard9619 yeah they do need a lot. I did grooming and it's my way to relax plus a friend I went to coll with is a great groomer so if needs pro I go to her. I love mastiffs just not a fan of the drool give me lots of hair any day which is what I'll have with a Leonberger and a long haired german shepherd
Wow seriously nice intro! Off subject... I see a dozen chihuahuas a day. I've seen, while living here in CA, literally thousands of chihuahuas. I'm not saying you're wrong but from my experience I have never seen a merle chihuahua. Just saying. Nothing but love.
Just checked out Womlu Mastiffs and many of their females are obese and high in the rear. Not saying they don't love their dogs but there are plenty of other mastiff breeders out there.
I have a 6 month old golden retriever (47 lbs) and those same people will pick up their little dogs from several yards away. I was upset at first honestly, but I guess it comes with the territory? 🤣
I find myself more wary of small dogs than large ones due owners of larger dogs tending to put in the work. Big dog I'm usually on my knees fawning over it (if the owner allows). Walking my sibes their have been times smaller dogs owners let them run rampant getting in there faces (small dog syndrome is real if unchecked). Luckily my pups are well socialised and patient but sometimes I wouldn't blame them if they issued a correction. Problem is then the small dog owner would freak. I'm talking uneducated owners, not the ones who care enough to watch channels like this. All this said we've also had super experiences with respectful smaller dogs. If you've never seen a larger dog pretending a puppy is winning a gentle play wrestle you're missing out. It's hilarious.
Why people think small dogs don't need manners is beyond me. So often my Bullmastiff boy Boris has other little dogs running up snapping, barking, etc. I always question the owners on how they would react if my boy ran up to their dog doing the same and remind them that their dog could've been dinner if my boy wasn't a big softie!
What is Eileen relationship like with Sully? You talk about Eileen and Puppy together all the time but you only ever talk about Sully as a “lead” or “example” dog modeling certain behaviors. Do they have more of a realtionship then that?
Cool future idea with intro keep that the way it is but once she's full grown have a big of her just like that after the puppy pic also I hear there not healthy dogs anything you doing extra for that could be a good video to talk about

Mastiff puppy is bit too Vague
Different types off mastiffs lol
Your hat is cute and puppy is sooooo adorable
Cool video, can you please consider doing a video on why you chose Eileen specifically over her litter mates. Or was she the only puppy available to choose from? Cheers.
Please keep going with your wonderful videos. I know that ALL dogs should be well mannered, but I find that if I'm walking our great dane, then she has to be better behaved than most other dogs simply because of her size. Where I live the small dog owners frequently create difficulties by not having full control over their dogs.
Please could we have more videos addressing this topic of the reality of having a large dog out in public. Thanks so much.
Love your videos! You guys are fantastic
Will you always feed Eileen kibble? Love you guys and your pup is soo cute 🥰
Beautiful puppy
Who's whippet is that?
I like new opening 👍🏾
Good advice 👍
What is poppy dog breeds
Great Video. As your pup
Thanks 👍
Good chose
Between my chihuahua to my mastiff I can't get them to come. I wish I could afford you to travel to this side of pond. Be well 💙💙
Do you feed Eileen the same brand of raw dog food, as you do with the older dogs? If so what brand do you use and is there raw meals especially made for puppies?
Eileen looks in this uniform like dog for special tasks😉👍🐕 She is just gorgeus🌸
Where is the video of you deciding which dog breed to bring home?
I like Doberman's too, but I'd never get one because it can't protect me from a Pitbull, while out on a walk.
Amazing info 🔥🔥🔥
Does anyone know where they got their English mastiff off ?
What size harness is Eileen wearing?
lol and you guys are English as well so English mastiff fits perfectly
Thank you.
Pretty impressive...
You remind me of Ragnar Lothbrok
Rachel is adorable
It's funny my uncle has an English mastiff and she is a horse and I deal with it with our doberman
Mastiff puppies are the best!
Just checked out Womlu Mastiffs and many of their females are obese and high in the rear. Not saying they don't love their dogs but there are plenty of other mastiff breeders out there.
You don’t fuck with the corso anymore ?
Why do you look for low drive dogs?
I have a 6 month old golden retriever (47 lbs) and those same people will pick up their little dogs from several yards away. I was upset at first honestly, but I guess it comes with the territory? 🤣
Could you explain why you would choose a doberman over a shepherd? Just curious. Enjoy these vids
When are you getting your Kangal ?
Bear size poops!😂
Why people think small dogs don't need manners is beyond me. So often my Bullmastiff boy Boris has other little dogs running up snapping, barking, etc. I always question the owners on how they would react if my boy ran up to their dog doing the same and remind them that their dog could've been dinner if my boy wasn't a big softie!
She is getting big
why did u get a english mastiff instead of a cane corso?
More laid back...
What is Eileen relationship like with Sully? You talk about Eileen and Puppy together all the time but you only ever talk about Sully as a “lead” or “example” dog modeling certain behaviors. Do they have more of a realtionship then that?
I love Mastiffs but just cant handle drooling dogs .
I'll yap on about dogs all day with ya XD
My 10 year old Doberman has about a week left to live, Diabetes is a bitch . Best of luck guys 💚
So sorry to hear this ❤️
@@eileenthemastiff7731 My little Doberman boy left yesterday for rainbow 🌈 bridge . 10 years and 4 months 💔.
Here's one: why you chose an English mastiff over a boerboel?
Cool future idea with intro keep that the way it is but once she's full grown have a big of her just like that after the puppy pic also I hear there not healthy dogs anything you doing extra for that could be a good video to talk about
A day in the life eventually
