Comparing Taipei to these sounds like a normal hardware vs software comparison where the hardware always has a little extra something. In this case the "hardware" is Taipei. One of the best plugins ever made IMO.
That TimP is something else! The other controls on the Taipei (which is a different model) certainly have features but for an instant tape effect, that J37 just has it. The UAD sound flat in comparison.
Bro could you explain how to use Tim.P j37 tape in stereo track? i saw in his product page this note ( NOTE: Nebulas evf is mono only, in the case of using saturation on a stereo instance we should create Left and Right instances in program like meta plugin.)
Why do you keep pushing everything so aggressively into the red? Tape machines are NOT meant to be used this way, and even the best 'REAL' tape machines will create horrible distortion when pushed this way. Every time you opened the J37, you immediately pushed the drive knob beyond its kernal sample limit and completely destroyed the sound. That's like setting any limiter to 20dB of gain reduction and calling it a "shoot out" - everything will just sound terrible as it does here.
I'm watching on my phone in 144p so forgive me if I didn't see this (not really worth me checking out in these conditions) but I did want to note for Tim's tape- and really any nebula program that is adding harmonic content- it is more accurate to duplicate the programs and run them in dual mono. iirc the envelope follower in nebula is mono/mid/centre so technically the most accurate way is two copies of each programs with the channels separated to mono on each. it's a cpu hog but it both sounds cleaner and wider to my ears, and if you're going to use nebula you might as well I figure. it mentions this on his page btw.
Why did you have the de-emp switched on for the drum comparison? made the Taipei sound so much duller in the high end. Despite this, Taipei still wins on all counts :D
I agree that the UAD is nice but 2D compared to Taipei, but Taipei is a different machine altogether. I'm more familiar with the Studer sound so i can't comment. I can hear it's pillowing the transients nicely, but overall character i couldn't say how it compares.
The T Racks Studer is nice...but as a send channel the Taupe by Acustica Audio or Tascam Porta with T Racks...is going to give your more real saturation

Thanks for the comparison. All of them sound good in their own way, depending on what you want to achieve

With TimP I think it's more important to use the makeup gain instead of the output on the saturation, as doesn't it feed back?
not sure Fwuzeem. I dont think so you can push it pretty hard and its nice.
taipei is just beautiful

Hey there. Why was the Tim P one 3 plugins on a track instead of 1?
TimP is a Nebula library. You need to open multiple instances to achieve proper functionality.
Wow, wow wow for Taipei

how do u do that?
@@user-hy4xz1qt9h depends on the daw but basically just double up the preamp and have it just left channel one and right channel the other.

Both Nebula libs beat down UAD pretty hard to my ears. I’d use either, depending on how i wanted the high end to behave.
both sound cheap.
Tim Petherick 37J ..FTW
Yo Patrick! I didn't realize Taipei was an MCI
Yep well serviced 1/4 Mara Machine but not sure if its also a 16 or 24 track or just the 110 2-track?
Uad is so static and 2d sounding. The other 2 definitely won
The UAD Oxide Tape
Is UAD’s best tape
TAIPEI has it all
I have UAD, Slate, Satin, Taipei and a couple of real decks. Taipei is really amazing, as is Toneboosters Reelbus 4

my man!!!
Thanks Esteban! glad to see you here! all the best friend
uad studer is better. You must be able to operate the control panel. And the only plugin that can stand up to it is the t-racks studer.

Another UAD snake oil plug.
All of them not even so close to hardware
