I'll never forget my first camping experience down there early 90's. We lived in Kona and decided to head south because we heard that the waves were gonna be good so me, my older brother and 3 of our friends head down there and on the way down the dirt road we stopped at Uncle Abel's place who was the only one living down there at that time, and we stopped to talk story with him and told him we was gonna camp and surf. He told us before we headed down to the beach that if we see anything not to worry because we had the blood. The sun was setting and we made it down to the beach and was the only ones down there and saw that the waves was pumping and we were anxious to wake up early the next morning to surf. We got there just in time before it got dark and we set up the 2 tents we had next to the trees to your right in the beginning of your video. We set up the tents to where the doors were kinda facing each other and it was me, my friend keawe and kapono in one tent, and my older bro and Pat in the other. It was getting late so we all decided to try and get some sleep so we could get our surf on in the morning. Not long after we're laying there for a bit and i was assuming everyone else was just about passed out and it's quiet other than the surf pounding, and all of a sudden I hear my brother in the other tent call out our names quietly but none of us in our tent responded or moved and I thought my friends were passed out sleeping until he called out our names the second time and he said get in here right now meaning into the other tent with them Wich was only a 3 person tent, and the sound of his voice the second time he called out our names sounded like he was serious and scared something was happening so without any of us saying anything the 3 of us all got up at once opened our tent and we all at once dove in their tent scared AF and we asked them wtf is going on and they said shut up and look! meaning look through the side of the tent and through the tent you could see flames perfectly spaced out and at first I thought it was a bunch of cars lined up on the highway going really slow, but the highway is about a mile or 2 away so it couldn't be because it was right next to our tent. What we were seeing was the torches of the night Marchers and we could hear the drums playing in the distance, we were camped right next to their path and it looked like they were heading towards the huge heiau on the cliff that you can see in the very beginning of your video @ 0:06 Wich was a place of worship and sacrifice. We all laid there faced down in that tent scared to touch the sides Wich is funny now but not so much when it was happening. That next morning we woke up and cleaned every single piece of opala/trash we could find on the beach to pay our respects and we was blessed with good surf after we got done cleaning the beach. On our way out heading back home to kona we stopped again to talk story with Uncle abel and we told him what happened and he said to us I told you guys no worries you guys get the blood. Till this day I still get chicken skin telling my friends about what happened that night.
