Hey, missed the stream. What were your thoughts on Boynextdoors' comeback? Did It change anything rap wise. Like ranking or perception of their skill.
I think that the problem with those rap kpop lists is usually the fact that they're biased as hell. And also well, just not having enough knowledge of what a good rap is overall. AND also the fact that they probably don't know all of those groups so again those are just very biased, popular score based rankings
Knowing the channel, I'm fairly comfortable assuming they know all the groups actually. Their entire Niche is ranking Kpop idols & Groups in different categories, so I assume they're pretty knowledgeable in the groups.
I think they should've just titled the video "My Favorite Raps of Every Group of Each Agency" instead & then adjusted the rank a little so it was just what they LIKE the most. (It's confusing, because they knew what they were doing enough to put the weaker raps at the bottom & stronger raps at the top, making me think it was a ranking on objectivity, but also let their favoritism slide in just a little.)

Oh don't worry!! Yeah I agree in general. Albeit it's much more prevalent on Tiktok nowadays than UA-cam I feel.
You are probably the only channel that I can trust in term of KPOP raps lol, keep up the great work!

Much improved 👏 The original list just hurt. I would also love to see you rank companies by their best raps. Go through companies, more than the big 4, and rank them based on rapping.
The most egregious thing about this video to me was the omission of Epik High for YG & f(x) for SM..
But I weirdly thought about your channel when I watched this, but this original video just shows the girl that makes these knows very little of the older groups in all of these companies
True, honestly I wouldn't expect Epik High especially, or f(x) included... but the fact they included groups like GLAM & TVXQ, but then omitted others from the companies is wild to me. Not sure what the qualifications were for entry. But I'm really glad you thought of me when watching it
@@carkpop I think I expected Epik High cuz they included AKMU, since Black Label is "separate" but I knew as soon as she put Winner so low & picked Bang Bang Bang for BB that she didn't have enough knowledge about a lot of the groups...
And you're 1 of the only youtubers that actually goes into the technical side of rap in kpop, also knew you would pick Let Me In for Exo, lol, you were 1 of the only ppl that talked about how intricate the flows were, & it made me happy cuz Exo is an ult for me, SC are 2 of my biases, & knowing they were the first SM group whose rappers were taken seriously, but like you said, most SM rappers have done their best work on solos & features, or like Heechul randomly dropping a variety show ost to remind ppl he's actually a musician, not a comedian, lol
Kinda crazy the talent of former YG trainee's in other labels groups now. Makes you wonder why they didn't debut anyone for a while.
Hwiseo from Hikey is the Main vocal and Main rapper.
Hikey's leader is also former YG.
Minju from Illit is their Main vocal and Main rapper.
Julie from KIOF.
Seoyeon from froms_9 is their Main rapper.
Moon Sua from Billie is their Main rapper and one of the best female idol rappers in kpop
Ireh from Purple Kiss is their Main dancer
Chain from Purple Kiss is their Main Vocalist
Jongseob from p1harmony is their Maknae and Main rapper and already one of the best rappers in KPOP.
Hyunny is the Leader of VVUP, their Maknae is also former YG trainee.
Jaehyun the leader of Boynextdoor is also former YG and one of the best rappers in 5th gen right now could be the best.
YG also had Miyeon and Jinny. We can’t forget about them not debuting them oml. Jinny is another one of the best rappers in kpop for women rappers and she’s a very strong all rounder while Miyeon is probably one of the best underrated vocalists in all of kpop. There are idols who are perfectly rated vocally like solar or wendy and then there are overrated minan vocalists like Lily (shouty delivery is not very ear pleasing) or Yunjin but Miyeon has great technique AND timbre which makes her a great singer imo. I’m an opera girly tho so I am biased as we all have more pretty/soft vocal timbres 😅
@@MBJK_baby Lily is the best vocalist of 4th gen from technical standpoints, you can say you don't personally like her, but there's no way she's overrated.
@@Robalexe she is overrated, she has the best technique but technique isn’t everything in singing. You could have great technique but sound like a dying goat because of your vocal timbre. A pretty vocal timbre attracts more people compared to a loud voice like Lily. That’s why I’d actually put Haewon and Lily on the same position in a list about vocalists in general (not a technique focused list)
@@MBJK_baby Lily is the main attracting factor for people getting into Nmixx, especially in terms of singing, so I don't agree with you on that at all. Most people I've seen love Lily's voice.

Of course, your list is better, because the first list has no reason to choose MIROH to represent Stray Kids' rap. Also I wouldn't choose hellevator. I'll choose "Maze of memories" or "The Tortoise and the Hare" or "Venom"(Han's part in it when he switches flow like 8 times in 10 seconds is insane).

Maze of memories and TTATH haven't MVs and TTATH isn't technically so proficient anyway (but as a song is amazing).
Venom has a video tho, so it could be taken into consideration. Imho District 9 and Easy too. But Hellevator is a nice choice

To be fair, Big Hit Music debuted BTS. Not HYBE Corp. So the other companies and labels under it may not be as focused on hip hop as an element.

I noticed the original uploader of the big 4 rap ranking video didn't include f(x) under SM artists. So I was wondering if they had included f(x) in this ranking list, where would you place them, and which title track/mv would you have chosen to represent their best rap? :) Really appreciate your knowledge and effort. Imo venom is underrated. I’m a singer and only have knowledge of rap through the rap songs I used to listen to but it’s now some of my favorite raps in general, in a list that includes Tupac, Eminem, etc. Venom is great to hype anyone up while also having some great technical skills and I think that blend is why it’s one of my favorite skz raps now.
Now THIS is a way better one, for iKON I think I'm Okay and Anthem are up there too, it SOOO difficult to choose between their raps

17:16 OMG you are so right about Xdinary Heroes best raps being on their bsides or covers. Admittedly I am not as knowledgeable on raps as you but I have always thought their title track raps were underwhelming and sort of dorky sounding compared to what I've heard from Gaon and Ode elsewhere. Especially on covers I think they showed a lot of potential. Like I know xdh is more vocally focused but whyyy does JYP have to sabotage the rap line like this.

i feel like that person just listened to the five most popular title tracks of each group, and picked the fastest/most catchy rap lol. that video could have easily been fixed if they titled it "my favorite" instead of "BEST" but we know better than to expect that from k-pop fans (also it's quite likely that the video was just rage bait)
Because baemon has so much potential in rap with asa, ruka, and ahyeon but yg just doesn’t let them write their raps and in return give them terrible lyrics
For Kick It, Mark’s rap is actually my favorite part of the song. The silence into the beat drop, the rasp while simultaneously nasal, is just chefs kiss
I have a rap “ranking” video (more of a compilation tbh) but I make a very clear point to say that these are my favorites, from the groups/artists that I know (mainly 3rd gen-5th gen, but was made around Xikers debut so its really only them for 5th gen) and that the entire point of the video is to be biased.
Shut down's and Pink Venom's rap parts are seriously the best raps of BP's discography. Jennie's and Lisa's voices match so well. In d4's case it is that back in 2018 there was no strong female rapper in 3rd gen except Jennie (and Moonbyul from mama moo but I don't like her flow) so that rap part was really mind blowing.
+ BTS's rap line does not even have a competition in their company.

Okay one thing most people get wrong: fast rap or longer verse doesn't mean skill. YG has a talent for getting outstanding rappers like just look at Mino, Bobby, B.I and GD! SM also found a few with Taeyong and Mark for example. Hybe has Jhope and Suga and that guy is so talented it's actually scary. JYP has SKZ who have a very solid rap line and underestimated XH: they covered Hellevator (SKZ) and both Gaon and O.de showed amazing skills right there.

When you put someone who said in their interview that rap is about being cool and going to school and doing everyday things and having swag then you are lost to me. I am surprised you didn’t name Outro: Tear, Cypher Medley, Ugh, and Ddaeng by BTS. Is it because you are looking only at raps where all 7 are in the song? Instead of just the rap line?

This is one example why I feel it is harder to just enjoy the music with kpop. The discourse around it often goes outside of the music so much that I just forgot why I was here to begin with.
I am still confused about the distinctions between “title tracks” and “B side” and why it matters?
Title tracks vs b-sides are in any genre of music. The term originated with vinyl records, where the title of the album and the “side-A” tracks were the main side of the disc, and then you flip the vinyl over and there would be “side-B” songs. These were songs the artist wanted to share with the album, but weren’t promoted or talked about as much.
Obviously we don’t have Vinyls anymore, but the term “b-side” stuck. An artist in any genre except American pop, will create an album with a couple of “title tracks”. These would be either their favorite songs on the album or the ones they think will do the best for showing their sound, and promote those with videos, live performances, and radio plays … B-sides are then the songs that are not promoted, basically everything you named here 😂.
At the end of the day, the original creator probably limited themselves to only songs with promotion so they would have background footage for their video in the form of group MVs.. of course for nearly all of the groups there’s a better rap verse on the B-sides (like BTS), but I wanted to give myself the same limitations they had.
it's because it was limited to official MV releases. None of the ones you mentioned fall within that criteria. It's not that there aren't better rap in bsides, frankly almost all of the groups have better rap in bsides but the original video chose to only use songs with official MVs, so for the sake of fairness this list was made with the same criteria. We talked in the stream when we made this list about which song had the best rap which lived up to the criteria and it's War of Hormone. It's obviously another song if it was a choice between all songs in their discography, but that kinda defeats the point of the video.
I frankly can't see why you would critique the discourse in relation to this video since this is just a fun video made because of the love of rap and legit critiquing the ranking of raps by someone else by someone (with the help of many others) who actually knows stuff about rap and cares about it. I really recommend checking out his other videos if you're actually interested in hearing his and our community's opinion on BTS' raps! They're consistently ranked some of the best kpop rappers when we rank them and some of his videos are breaking down why the raps are good.
And concerning your confusion, the difference is that title tracks are the songs chosen to promote the album and the comeback so they're the representative songs for the album. It is not a term limited to kpop and originates from when records were used, simply referring to the songs with less importance. In kpop it refers to songs on an album that aren't being promoted. And the only importance here is because it's the limit set by the original creator of the list being critiqued.

a title track is the promoted song of an album/ep. its the song with a music video & the song most likely to have some type of live performance. i think another comment mentioned that the probable reason for choosing only title tracks was so that there would be footage used in the background for when the songs are talked abt in the original video.
The distinction is made because some people just don’t listen to bsides and when making a big list like the creator of the vid did it would take days if not months of work. It takes less time to listen to a groups promoted bsides (basically bsides with mvs) and titles. So yeah, it’s just a matter of convenience as people who make videos don’t want to waste months on one project where they could spend time doing other things that are more productive at the end of the day 😊❤

I like your video but Yes, Hybe (BigHit) debuted BTS and now most of their recent groups are not rap oriented. And so what? Not all groups have to be rap oriented and it's not a reason to act like you are disgusted by it. I much prefer diversity and barely no rap than mid one...
1. It’s a very odd situation where a key niche that made the company big & successful, hiphop, is utterly abandoned after the first group to where they debut 5 or 6 groups now and none of them have a strong hiphop foundation in a over a decade now. So, while I’m partly “disgusted” for me, it’s also a disgusting business division imo(?)… not like, one that will end their company or something but like, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it kinda thing.
2. Idk if you’re brand new to my Channel (if you are, welcome!!!), but a huge thing for me is the rapping side of kpop. Of course I enjoy kpop without rap focused stuff, but on YT, most of my content is looking for legitimate rapping & showing kpop rapping can be *good*, yknow? Since it’s often a joke to outsiders. BTS, whether fans want to admit it or not, was a huge corner stone in making authentic raps & real raps in kpop. So to see their company never allow another group to do that (lowkey not even having BTS do it nowadays either), just hurts me a bit. Not every group needs to be a hiphop centric thing obviously but 🙃🙃… NONE of their groups are now. So it hurts for me 😅

@@carkpop That's because BTS have 2 underground Rappers eg RM and Suga(aka Agust D) who already had a name for themselves as Battle Rappers under different stage names. While J Hope was part of the Underground Hip Hop Scene as Street Dancer who when listening to the men Battle Rapping went to Suga and asked for some pointers then went off and learnt to write his own lyric's and started joining in Battle Rapping. They also went to the USA to make sure they understood Hip Hop Culture under the watching eyes of Coolie, Tony Jones, Warren G etc. They are the Rappers who have colabs with Real Rapper's USA and OG South Korean Rappers. They are real Rappers not 'Kpop' Rappers.
