    • @tomboling2309
      @tomboling2309 19 днів тому +1

      @@Costanza009 I will say the chances of a mighty ducks 4k boxset is 85% percent not going to happen. Bc Disney is more focused on there streaming & theater releases. And since Disney gave Sony there catalog titles to release on bluray & 4k. And maybe we will start to see some of the Disney catalog titles finally getting a bluray or a 4k release in 2025. But I am not going to hold my breath on more then a handful of catalog titles from Disney actually coming out on bluray or 4k in 2025. Bc I can't see Sony focusing more on releasing Disney catalog titles over there own catalog titles getting released first. Since Sony has alot of there own catalog titles that still are not available on bluray or 4k still. Sony best thing to do is to either start licensing out there catalog titles or Disney catalog titles to the smal labels to release either on bluray or 4k

      @@tomboling2309 their loss, that Trilogy on 4k I’d be standing in line for that. No profits for Disney, they’ll keep raising the price for Disney+ until people stop using because it’s too expensive. It just went up 20 dollars for the annual subscription. It goes up anymore, and I’ll stop it next year.

    Best Buy HAD to have lost a ton of foot traffic and internet traffic dropping ditching physical media. I know that I personally would go biweekly at least and now I have only been to their stores twice in all of 2024. It used to be fun to go and look at new releases and random sales, now I have to rely on the internet and Walmart when I need my physical media fix

      i TOTALLY AGREE. I USED TO DEFINITELY VISIT BEST BUY EVERY WEEK, SOMETIMES TWICE A WEEK. IT MADE MY WEEK. I PREFER PHYSICAL MEDIA AS IT CONSISTS OF EXTRAS LIKE DELETED SCENES AND COMMENTARY, ETC. STREAMING DOES NOT DO THAT, PLUS PHYSICAL HAS ATMOS SOUND. BEST BUY WAS STUPID FOR STOPPING; I THINK THEY LOST A LOT OF REVENUE AKA MONEY. THEY LOST ME. I HARDLY GO TO BEST BUY NOW. SINCE NO MORE VIDEO SALES, I ONLY BOUGHT ONCE: USB .

    I can only speak from experience with my friend that works at Best Buy‘s in New York City. He told me that their sales with everything has dropped and he believes it’s because there is less people in the stores and movies sold really good in his location (keep in mind. New York City does not have Walmart) I do hope Best Buy starts carrying movies again. It would make life easier for me and cheaper. I have a 115” projection screen and an Epson 4K projector, which apparently does a wonderful upscaling job, because I’m continually shocked how beautiful a well mastered Blu-ray looks. I just watched Hugo, and the detail, depth, and color richness is astounding. The 4K version may provide a slight uptick, but I won’t be upgrading to it on this and many other Blu-rays which are equally impressive. Hard to believe that it’s not the prime viewing option for the vast majority of people, all of whom now have at least a 1080p or 4K television to enjoy them on. I don’t see that a new release DVD is greatly less expensive than the Blu-ray version.

    Barnes & Noble has been the mecca for physical releases for at least the last four years and now people are starting to catch on. Their rotating sales from the boutique and studio labels have been a draw for me as there is always something on sale. It helps that the membership pays for itself a couple times over as they rarely ask me to join up again. I went five years before they asked me to join up again. And now they’ve added a five buck reward for every hundred spent on top of the 10% discount. It’s an awesome deal!

    I know we all want Best Buy to return to the physical market, but that’s a pretty ridiculous prediction. Just last year the completely removed all movies from stores to the point where Walmart got back stock and was selling 4K and Blu-ray steelbooks from Best Buy for $5. The rearranged the stores. They removed the online sale of movies as far as I can tell. And Best Buy was known for exclusives so seeing Walmart have exclusive releases is not new (they’ve had them for years as well). Best Buy knew the amount of revenue they would lose out after removing movies as part of their strategy so it’s not like they weren’t prepared.
    And quite frankly other big retailers like Target and even Walmart are drastically reducing their selection of physical media in stores.
    So it’s just wishful thinking on that one. Not bold.

    Ken I don't know what you been drinking before you made your predictions for 2025. But I am pretty sure none of those will actually come true in 2025. But if what you said does come true about paying higher prices then what we paid in 2024. Then we will see the start of the end of physical media & the downward spiral of physical media. And more people getting out of collecting & buying physical media all together. Bc if the price tag keep going up then we could see physical media gone by 2030. Bc there will be a price point that around 80% percent of physical media film lovers will say the prices are too high to keep collecting. And streaming services will take over physical media bc streaming will be cheaper then buying physical media. So all of us physical media film collectors lovers need to voice our options on all this higher price tags to the studios & small labels & tell them when the prices have gone to high

    I think a lot of the patents for the blu-ray format will expire in 2025, maybe 2026. If that does happen I think DVDs will be phased out for good, since companies no longer have to pay a licensing fee to make blu-ray discs anymore.

      Your comment is absolutely ridiculous and I don’t think you understand how licensing works. It’s not just licensing on the formats you have to license the movies. Also any licenses that are about to expired will be renewed because these companies make a lot of money off of Movies in general.

      @@michaeldietz2648 You completely misunderstood my comment. I did not mention anything about movie licenses, I was referring to the physical 'discs' themselves. Every blu-ray disc has to be licensed from Sony and other blu-ray disc manufacturers, whether it's some sort of flat fee or a royalty per-disc sold. If the patents were to expire, the blu-ray disc format would become royalty-free like DVDs, so they could potentially be just as common as a result.

      @@firesideentertainment I don’t think you understand even if Dvd was to become a free format. It still wouldn’t matter because they have to get the licenses to put the movies on it. Companies aren’t allowed to just manufacture disc and put anything they want on it. Like I said any licenses that expire can be renewed..
