It’s debatable wether seasons 6-8 are even THAT infamous or will stay that way forever. Considering how Fanboy and chum chum had a much lower score on IMDb than seasons 6-8 of SpongeBob and people are already saying the hate was overblown it wouldn’t be surprising that someone out there might say the same about 6-8.
I never judge SpongeBob by season, but by episodes and as someone who is a big fan of the show and have seen every episode from seasons 1-12 (and not the whole 13 season yet) I love soo many of them. Every season has some great episodes and I enjoy SpongeBob as a whole. I'm tired of people who say that only seasons 1-3 are good. :(
Here’s a hot take, Wormy is my least favorite SpongeBob episode of all time, and I don’t get why people tolerate the nightmares wormy gave us yet a pal for Gary and house fancy (more house fancy) are treated like crap even if a pal for Gary is a bad episode. (This doesn’t mean I hate season two though I just think it’s only the 4 best season)
Many fans hate House Fancy just because of the toenail scene and nothing else. Not only that, the post-movie era gets hate just because of the bad episodes. Seasons 4-5 have more good episodes than bad episodes. These seasons get hate just because of the bad episodes and the differences from the classic era. Something tells me that they have not watched a single episode from the season.

I think ppl assume that SpongeBobs downfall began at season 4 because the very beginning of season is the stupid wooden pick ep that made me feel so grossed out as a literal child. The ep was never funny, it was just gross so ppl wrote off the entire season but tbh some of my fav eps are from season 4-5 and i always thought they were from seasons 1-3 💀
season five is my favorite! i had it on dvd growing up and would watch it on the mini can dvd player so i remember it the most and have the most nostalgia for it
I kinda agree with you. Post-Movie SpongeBob is really overhated by many because of the declining quality of the show. People just assume everything after the movie is terrible. Season 4-5 are definitely underrated seasons. They did indeed have more good episodes then bad ones. Yes Post-Movie SpongeBob did had a lot of bad episodes but its mostly during the show’s dark age (Season 6-8). The show’s quality did improve after the 2nd movie but it now just feels like a completely different show. Though it isn’t as bad as it was during the 6-8 Seasons. Though the show still isn’t as good as it used to be, I just can’t understand how incredibly toxic these SpongeBoomers are.
Well I agree with basically all your takes here. I have never really heard the opinions of this "Greater spongebob fanbase" but if these are all hot takes then this fanbase must be the same fanbase that thinks The Last Jedi is the best Star Wars movie. Seasons 4 and 5 are actually great! I always considered season 4 to be right up there with season 3. Season 5 I can understand being more of a transitional Phase season. But even though there are a decent amount of meh episodes in seasons 6-8 I still enjoyed them. When seasons 6-8 were coming out I was kind of in the transition age of where spongebob was becoming "uncool" so I never fully finished season 7 or 8 until a year or two ago and enjoyed both seasons decently. But anyways, if this so called spongebob community doesn't like seasons 4 or 5 and also thinks House fancy is a bad episode because of a toe nail scene (which I thought was hilarious as a kid) then sorry but this is no fanbase I would ever want to be apart of. you're just straight up wrong with the last take. people do give those episodes hate, AND there are reasons why people consider those episodes better than post movie squid torture episodes. in jellyfishing for example, squidward is a complete jerk to spongebob and patrick at the beginning, and rather than coming off as genuinely afraid of spongebob like in episodes like boating buddies, squidward looks down on them condescendingly, and seems just mildly annoyed with them. squidward continues to be a jerk throughout the episode, and every time spongebob and patrick cause harm to him, its 1. unintentional and 2. funny. in newer episodes the jokes just dont land as well because squidward didnt do anything to put himself in danger, whereas in jellyfishing it is his own inattentiveness and cocky attitude that caused him to fall off of his bike and get stung by the giant jellyfish at the end. in addition, spongebob and patrick are genuinely remorseful at the end of the episode, and get some comeuppance of their own when squidward releases the jellyfish at them.
