@@TobiLaroux not true. Amy wrote most lyrics, excluding a couple of them like My Immortal and Understanding. The reason she doesn't like these songs is probably because they were written by adolescents with no knowledge, so they now feel cringy for her.
I'm 72 years old. I've heard a lot of music in my time. From the Beatles to Aerosmith to the Ramones to Heart, etc. But I must say that Amy Lee stills commands my attention. The early stuff is my favorite of hers, but I like all their songs. But something about this haunting song in particular, brings me back. Almost daily. Such a raw soulful song, such emotion. From such a young Amy Lee! It echos so many events in my life, with such clarity and understanding. Her star is bright and will Shine for a long time. (PS. Barbi this one is for you}.

The theme and lyrics are so perfect and her voice is so damn young. She was a teenager when she sang this sorrowful song. I can only wonder what made her so sad in such a young age.
Anonymous I know I'm late but she was depressed because her sister died and I've heard that the relationship she had with Ben Moody was emotionally abusive but I don't know if she was dating him at this point
@@euanwill5188 They dated for a bit when she was a young teen. Yeah Ben was increasingly toxic, abusive, and controlling, a very volatile person (he was also an undiagnosed bipolar). Amy's early depression was likely a confluence of several things including the early death of her sister, lack of professional help, moving around a lot around the country lacking social stability as a kid, her isolation, and an abusive relationship. She said years later that didn't she consider herself a sad person just a person who's experienced tragic, negative things and written about some of them, but It's obvious she was always troubled since the death of her sis when she was six. As a kid she was titling music she wrote "Eternity of the remorse" and "A single tear", which no happy stable child would do. And her early anxious stage fright that had her shutting her eyes to not look at people was probably a byproduct of all that. With things piling on over the years, art was the one outlet through which she expressed sorrow and negative thoughts, which is obviously heard in her songs particularly up to The Open Door. I mean The Open Door's last song "Good Enough" is the first happy song she ever wrote, which came about after a bunch of turmoil, therapy, her literally moving away to the other side of the country and engaging in a new life for herself

I am VERY late, finding Amy Lee And Evanescence. Their gothic, mostly sorrowful, and haunting music and lyrics speak DIRECTLY to my lost, and broken soul. "Solitude" is not even close to a favorite song that Evanescence does, but the lyrics and the theme hit directly, and right on target. Solitude is me, and solitude will be with me, (and my ONLY companion), throughout my life, it has become VERY PAINFULLY clear. And all the lost souls say........ I would love to have lunch with Amy Lee, and just talk to her about how she has come up with the lyrics that she has put forth in song, and music. I imagine we might have quite a bit in common. Ooh soledad
