The ad paints Aborigines as mystical, Other, backwards (the boy's half naked) and spiritually superior. A caricature stuck in the past. Most Aborigines I know grew up in the city, have never been to central Australia, and are as spiritually inclined as I am (I'm "Anglo-Aust."), and they don't care for this ad campaign. Prove to me these ads are benefiting Indigenous Australians, economically, culturally and emotionally. Prove to me it's not exploitation.

Sure - The Australian Aboringinal people have a highly developed spiritual connection with the land. Going "walkabout" is to put aside everything and to journey into the bush to connect your soul to the the land. This ad is encouraging people to put thier highly stressful lives on hold - to visit Australia - and to reconnect with who they truly are as a person through seeing the incredible natural wonders Australia has to offer. The cinematography is astounding...I'm really not sure why most posters fail to see the power of this piece of film. It's clever, has a hook and a heart....and the casting of an aboriginal child to bring us to his land is well done. I think those who find no value in this are young, male and have never been to Australia.

I think you're right to a point. Advertising is designed to manipulate, but then that can be said of almost all communication. In this case I think the cynicism is particularly overt, and I guess that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. There's a difference between saying 'Come to Australia, you'll enjoy yourself' and 'Come to Australia, your urban lifestyle is shallow and meaningless and is slowly killing you.' It's so calculated and is clearly designed to exploit peoples personal sorrows.

If people think this ad "depressing" and the music "depressing" then they obviously have no soul. All countries have unique terms by which they are known ie: Canadians=RCMP and snow...UK..fish and chips, the pub etc and so it is with Australia...the outback, g'day mate, and walkabouts...that's just the way of it...I don't think this ad is racist but then I'm not an indigenous person...but do hope that I'm aware enough to know the difference.
Hello Leonardo. I've searched for hours and this music is not available for purchase. What I ended up doing was downloading and extracting the music from the youtube video. I then edited the music, (removed the talking, extended the song), with Wavepad.

@MissCarolion Well as far as I know crocs can't climb limestone escarpments hundreds of metres high. I have swum in plenty of amazing spots in NT like they do in this ad. Now swimming at the bottom of the falls is another story..
