You mean bullfrogs. There were already cane toads. Reminds me of that Paul Jennings story "Guts" about this spirit that tries to kill pests, which includes cane toads. It turns itself into something hollow with a prize inside, and when the offender goes in to get the prize, the spirit eats them, but it just looks like they go clear and disappear before they can grab whatever it is, before the form the spirit took also disappears. This includes a box with a fish for a feral cat and a roast chicken in a cottage for two kids. It's just they mention cane toads quite a lot. A cane toad is the first creature that one kid sees being eaten when it takes the bait, and later, they use a cane toad that's eating a dead possum to get rid of the cottage blocking them from leaving, because the form won't leave until it gets live meat. They try throwing the possum's nose in first since it's already dead, but the cottage throws it back out and makes sick noises.
American here. Sure the Simpson's may not have nailed Australia exactly, but they haven't figured out America yet either lol. The parody and stereotypes is what has help them stay on for 30+ years.
Bloody is a very a light curse word in England (particularly northern England). As the generations have gone on it's got less and less offensive and is probably dying our of use. Also, you missed out Bart's trail and booting! - "Disparaging of the boot is a bootable offense!"

I can't believe l've been watching "The Simpsons" nearly every day, since l was in my mid-teen years, when it first aired on TV here in Australia in February of 1991. I said back then this show was gonna last a very long time, and l was right! Anyway, I must have watched each episode 30 times by now over the years, and there are over 600 episodes of it! l'm not sick of it at all! I still love it! And l can't wait to see the brand new episodes of the show in the years to come 😍😁👍

Every episode of 'The Simpsons' is a laugh at American culture. Even the fact that the accents are so bad is a laugh at American culture because American TV and filmmakers have a reputation for getting such things completely wrong out of apathy.
The late chef Anthony Bourdain would approve of your reactions. He did go to Melbourne and Sydney on his show: no reservations, and said Australia has the worst tourist industry. He pointed out that the country’s mascots had to be the crocodile hunter and crocodile Dundee. I would like to see an “Aussies react to finding Nemo”, if not, maybe a reaction to either Anthony Bourdain or Andrew zimmern’s Australian episodes.

I'm from America. As in the US technically both continents are American. But whatever. Bloody is not a swear word here. The only time you'll even hear us say it is if we're actually talking about something being bloody literally. Or we're faking a British accent to be ironic or funny. As far as I know it wasn't even a curse word before the American revolution. American English and British English had started to split off generations before that. I don't even understand why it's a curse word for the UK other than I'm guessing a meaning of intent that it's being used like a standard curse word like the one's I mentioned. Although usually it's purposely done bad and extremely exaggerated on purpose for comedic effect. But there's several different southern accents for almost every southern state. And for the northern states like say Boston and New York, New Jersey, Minnesota and in the Midwest where I'm from I'm told we have an accent when people from new York and the north east hear some of our words. It's not what I would consider an accent and what's called a regular American accent but there's words and phrases that we use and don't even think about that apparently other Americans notice. Kind of like I've heard there is in Australia about the difference between a Sidney and Melbourne accent. Anyway point is bloody isn't and never has been a curse word here and only used as a literal description or if we're doing a very bad British accent. And trust me as much as we make fun of pretty much.......everyone. We definitely make fun of ourselves and self depreciate. To some of us it's damn near a language and constantly make fun of ourselves individually as our sense of humor. If you watch a lot of our television and entertainment you'll definitely notice. Especially if you watch Family Guy and especially South Park. The South Park movie alone and the Team America World Police movie also made by the creators of South Park are just a very tiny example of it. Frankly I don't know where the idea that we don't make fun of ourselves or have a sense of humor comes from. We do it constantly. Frankly if you jokingly made fun of our accent or said something deprecating to our face and wasn't malicious about it we'd smirk and laugh. So I don't get people thinking we don't. We have that stereotype for the French and Scandinavian countries and Germany and Italy. That they don't have a sense of humor. It's especially a stereotype about the French and Germans. I am American and wonder about the accents. Australia is a big country. Here in the States we have 100s of accents. Do you guys have different accents in different parts of the country?
We do have a few tell tale sounds that pop up here and there, but it's nowhere near that of the USA. Most people wouldn't even notice the dialect differences between our states. Our dialects are more likely to differ between the rural and the urban areas country wide. We have 3 main dialects in Australia, which are broad, general and cultivated Australian. In the defense of the Simpsons (sort of), they said the excuse is since the Simpsons is a exaggerated take on American people and culture making us look like idiots, they said Australians need to be like stereotypes too, especially because if they were normal it wouldn't be funny enough.
To be fair, that episode did have some jokes at America's expense, like the "Made in USA" motor on the embassy gate breaking down, or the Bart and Homer's lack of knowledge about the rest of the world at the beginning of the episode.

A lot of the accents in the Simpsons are intentionally awful. Dan Castellaneta (who plays Groundskeeper Willie) has admitted his Scottish accent is deliberately meant to be both a stereotype and a bad one, because it's funnier that way.
At the time that it came out, it was fairly obvious that it was referencing the caning of the American Michael Fay in Singapore. I guess it was safer to rely on some lazy stereotypes of Australia instead of Singapore. The Simpsons didn't seem so edgy after that.
I haven't been to the great continent of Australia in 24 years and I only have information from Perth/Freemantle and Hobart but VB was most popular in Perth. Swan was also tops. Hobart was Cascade. VB as well. Never saw Foster's and for good reason.
In the tv sitcom Seinfeld episode “The Stranded” (Season 3 episode 10) Elaine played by Julia Louis Dreyfus makes a crude reference to a dingo eating a baby. Which is cruel because a good woman went to prison and suffered terribly for years after a dingo snatched and killed her daughter on the night of August 17th, 1980.
Stuff from the episode that didn't make the clips does feature a lot of more self-depricating jokes but it certainly aims at at least the stereotypes without digging much deeper. Unless there was a boot, I dunno

This episode is intentionally mocking US media stereotypes of Australia, but especially Paul Hogan’s caricature of his own country. No one drinks Fosters in America either BTW.
The Simpson is self deprecating to America most of the time. A typical American family is not as terrible as the Simpsons but we all have some of that terribleness in our families. Also in this episode, the whole catalyst is because Bart can't understand a simple concept. It goes on to make fun of us when, at great expense, the US government had a machine installed to have the embassy toilets flush "the proper American way". Then Home jumps back and forth saying "I'm in Australia, I am in America", and then the Marine guard punches him saying "we don't put up with that kind of crap in America, sir". Then the gate motor at the embassy fails and there is a giant sign that says "made with pride in the USA". Heck the entire episode is a wink to how we Yanks don't have an understanding of Aussie culture.

To the American ear, the Australian accent is British-lite. That's why we mistakenly associate British things with Australians.

Which btw in the United States is meant to describe someone from the North of the East side of America by people from the South East side. It's a half term of endearment and half insult. I think Southerner's don't think we notice that but we do. As far as Australia, New Zealand and the UK we don't take it personally. It's just a thing because of the 1900's and it stuck. Not that we aren't responsible anyway we're the one's who made that word up. And honestly as an American. Unless they're a historian. We don't know wtf Yankee even means. Only the context it's used if it's by someone outside the United States or if it's someone from the South. To 99% of us Yankee Doodle Dandy doesn't actually mean a gd thing. We just know it started during the revolutionary war. And then became a slur for people from the North during the civil war. Kind of like Reb would be to anyone in the south United States. 🤷🏼♂️. Oh that's another to add to the swear list that's basically all of the United States but especially in the south.... God da#@. Cursing God with GD is pretty much the worst one you can say here. You say bloody and the response you'll get is someone looking at you to see if you're bleeding. Then probably check themselves to see if they're bleeding if they see you aren't. That is unless you're doing it in a bad British or Scottish accent. Which we will do and half the time sounding Australian and a lot of the time mixing all three together. But since we're purposely trying to do a bad accent ironically we usually don't care that it's bad. I'm guessing that The Simpsons, and probably most cartoon comedies are either purposely screwing it up or don't care that they are. Or they're really bad at it and actually trying. We're not exactly great at accents. Everyone else usually mimics them better including Australia. We're better at American accents. Most of us here in the north can do a semi decent southern accent if we really try because most of our family is from the South or have southern relatives. Although usually it's purposely done bad and extremely exaggerated on purpose for comedic effect. But there's several different southern accents for almost every southern state. And for the northern states like say Boston and New York, New Jersey, Minnesota and in the Midwest where I'm from I'm told we have an accent when people from new York and the north east hear some of our words. It's not what I would consider an accent and what's called a regular American accent but there's words and phrases that we use and don't even think about that apparently other Americans notice. Kind of like I've heard there is in Australia about the difference between a Sidney and Melbourne accent. Anyway point is bloody isn't and never has been a curse word here and only used as a literal description or if we're doing a very bad British accent. And trust me as much as we make fun of pretty much.......everyone. We definitely make fun of ourselves and self depreciate. To some of us it's damn near a language and constantly make fun of ourselves individually as our sense of humor. If you watch a lot of our television and entertainment you'll definitely notice. Especially if you watch Family Guy and especially South Park. The South Park movie alone and the Team America World Police movie also made by the creators of South Park are just a very tiny example of it. Frankly I don't know where the idea that we don't make fun of ourselves or have a sense of humor comes from. We do it constantly. Frankly if you jokingly made fun of our accent or said something deprecating to our face and wasn't malicious about it we'd smirk and laugh. So I don't get people thinking we don't. We have that stereotype for the French and Scandinavian countries and Germany and Italy. That they don't have a sense of humor. It's especially a stereotype about the French and Germans. We don't about the British they just assume we don't understand their humor 🤷🏼♂️. Oh and the Russians. I'm pretty sure it's a stereotype that they don't have a sense of humor either. I'd like to think most of us here aren't that stupid. But I honestly don't know 🤔. If you really want to know what we think of you Aussie's. Frankly I think that we are closer and more like your people and the Kiwi's than any other countries. We're both warm and welcoming. Mostly lol. Open and with everything out there loud and proud and wanting to connect with everyone we meet. Stranger or otherwise. So what some other reserved and what other countries call "loud". In both personality and apparently our speech. The way we both speak comes from a different part of the throat and the way we use our tongues (ha, ha). So to everyone our voices sound loud when we're just speaking normally. For lack of a better phrase we don't get butt hurt by every single little thing. And we're not as my generation puts it born around 1980 "puss#@$". You're tough, warm and nice and smile and laugh because it's who you are. We respect that. See ourselves in your people more than basically anyone else. I really don't know how else to put it. We really do love your people. I don't know why you think we don't have a sense of humor 🤨 or aren't self deprecating cause that's way off lol. Maybe you've only been getting some New York a-holes or people from Los Angeles there or something or only dealing with wanna be Donald Trump's on business trips. I dunno 🤷🏼♂️. But make fun of us and see how quick we laugh 😏. The only example I have of that is Farscape so you'll have to excuse my lack of experience. But it was hilarious. Anyway keep being you. I am American and wonder about the accents. Australia is a big country. Here in the States we have 100s of accents. Do you guys have different accents in different parts of the country?
We do have a few tell tale sounds that pop up here and there, but it's nowhere near that of the USA. Most people wouldn't even notice the dialect differences between our states. Our dialects are more likely to differ between the rural and the urban areas country wide. We have 3 main dialects in Australia, which are broad, general and cultivated Australian. Pete from Aussie English has a great video about these. :-)

In the defense of the Simpsons (sort of), they said the excuse is since the Simpsons is a exaggerated take on American people and culture making us look like idiots, they said Australians need to be like stereotypes too, especially because if they were normal it wouldn't be funny enough.
To be fair, that episode did have some jokes at America's expense, like the "Made in USA" motor on the embassy gate breaking down, or the Bart and Homer's lack of knowledge about the rest of the world at the beginning of the episode.

A lot of the accents in the Simpsons are intentionally awful. Dan Castellaneta (who plays Groundskeeper Willie) has admitted his Scottish accent is deliberately meant to be both a stereotype and a bad one, because it's funnier that way.
At the time that it came out, it was fairly obvious that it was referencing the caning of the American Michael Fay in Singapore. I guess it was safer to rely on some lazy stereotypes of Australia instead of Singapore. The Simpsons didn't seem so edgy after that.
I haven't been to the great continent of Australia in 24 years and I only have information from Perth/Freemantle and Hobart but VB was most popular in Perth. Swan was also tops. Hobart was Cascade. VB as well. Never saw Foster's and for good reason.

The Simpson is self deprecating to America most of the time. A typical American family is not as terrible as the Simpsons but we all have some of that terribleness in our families.
Also in this episode, the whole catalyst is because Bart can't understand a simple concept. It goes on to make fun of us when, at great expense, the US government had a machine installed to have the embassy toilets flush "the proper American way". Then Home jumps back and forth saying "I'm in Australia, I am in America", and then the Marine guard punches him saying "we don't put up with that kind of crap in America, sir". Then the gate motor at the embassy fails and there is a giant sign that says "made with pride in the USA". Heck the entire episode is a wink to how we Yanks don't have an understanding of Aussie culture.
