Same here - just got around to it on PS Plus and it was a real WTF moment. I only found one Reddit thread about it at the time, so I’m glad it’s blowing up a bit. For those of us who play older single player games (i.e are PAYING PS Plus users), this is awful.

This change is so soooooo bad. I hated the way Xbox would push stuff like this on the dashboard and praised Sony for restraint and having such a clean design for game tiles with full bleed game art. This just ruins that so I hope this gets enough attention for them to take notice and revert back.

Only some games even use them. Its super nice when they have trophy tips as one of the cards or a resume activity card you can just click on but other than that its useless

I liked the resume activity option as it just automatically loaded your most current save and got you back in the game a bit quicker. I thought I was going crazy when it wasn't popping up anymore.
It's impressive how the PS5's UI was bad, and now it's worse. If you move between PS3/PS4/PS5 a lot you soon notice how the PS5 is by far the most irritating to use, and the most unintuitive.
It’s funny how some things bother some people but not others, and the other way around. What you showed here today is nowhere near as egregious as not allowing us to alphabetize our trophy lists or worse yet, not allowing us to delete ganes with partially completed trophy percentages from our trophy lists. That is so so so much more offensive, especially to trophy hunters. Server shutdowns? Glitched lists? Devs made bad decisions and made their game stupidly difficult? You’re screwed. Nothing you can do once you cross the 1% trophy completion threshold. That is infinitely user unfriendly and needs to be amended. There is zero legitimate reason why we should not be able to permanently delete (not just ‘hide’) games from our trophy lists, no matter how far along the trophy progress is.
We are back to PS3 release SONY. All the PS5 “features” ruined the experience. ODIN’s RAVENS IS SO DUMB! Same with DMC5 asking me to play the boring Bloody Palace. Or Elden Ring always showing Melina! AND I HAVE NEVER USED THE ACTIVITY CARD IN OVER 2 years of use!
Ugh. Playstation's turning into Xbox now. Ironically enough, even Xbox has been a lot better about showing less and less ads, especially after its last dashboard update, but Xbox from 2013-2022 had ads plastered everywhere on the dashboard and it was inescapable.

Microsoft's Xbox one lost me as a customer when I had to sign in over 50% of the time online just to play an offline mode game. I got rid of it. I sold over 100 games and the system. Now this ads with Sony will lose me as a customer, too, if they don't do something better than this. No more BS. All I want is to buy the game and play it straight up.

I wish Sony would just put out an update where you can choose a "Lite mode", where nothing except the game thumbnail and the achievements are on the bottom or top left (like the ps3/ps4 for example). I think the news thing could be ok but they'd have to do the following: 1. Make it an option - default it to on, if you must, but let us turn it off. 2. After a month, it goes back to the key art - until a new (relevant) news story is published 3. It must be relevant - only news articles that pertain to the game and its content specifically should be included (e.g., patch news, dlc, updates etc) 4. Don't make the news title look like it's the name of the game

They've lost a customer who played their games and brought all their system since i was a little kid, They lost me forever and now they are trying to Force PC players to join their eco system by Signing in with a PlayStation account for Single Player games on PC like God of War Ragnarök. Console platforms need to be regulated in the EU at least in the same way as gatekeepers like Apple's iOS and iPadOS are. The fact I cannot purchase applications from other stores renders the PlayStation Store an effective monopoly.

This is one of the big reasons why I don't like the Xbox dashboard, ads everywhere. Although, even this isn't as bad as that because Xbox would have ads for movies, TV shows, and other products other than games too. Still, this is a step in the wrong direction. I hope they change it back but I don't have confidence they will.
For Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled (a 5 year old PS4 game), they’re advertising Crash Team Rumble (an online only game that’s no longer being supported).
The Worst Example is any of the Tomb Raider Games. It literally gets rid of any key art, and just shoves Merch in your face with a message telling you to go buy it.
Anyway the best PlayStation interface will always be the PS3 one. So clean with our own wallpaper. Second is PS4 and PS5 is by far the worst one. So generic with no customization at all for any esthetic changes.
Thanks for the confirmation, thought I was going mad, kinda annoying for games where they're no longer being updated and the news page isn't updated either so it no longer is showing game art (cyberpunk is one example that had cool art depending which part of the story you are in/choices you made etc which you don't really see anymore)
I thought and hoped Sony was better than Microsoft in this aspect. I turned my Xbox on and the first insufferable windows tile that popped up was an ad telling me to vote.
Playing MHW and the background is just a big white screen saying there will be save bonuses for Wilds. And while that’s all well and good, that’s not what I want to be seeing before starting up the game every time.

It’s getting more and more challenging to justifying having a console nowadays. The PC revolution is coming
Microsoft's Xbox one lost me as a customer when I had to sign in over 50% of the time online just to play an offline mode game. I got rid of it. I sold over 100 games and the system. Now this ads with Sony will lose me as a customer, too, if they don't do something better than this. No more BS. All I want is to buy the game and play it straight up.
Price increases, removal of features, locking PC content to signing into PSN. I love PlayStation but the decisions lately are just baffling. Glad I’m canceling PS plus. Ads on the Home Screen really?
I wish Sony would just put out an update where you can choose a "Lite mode", where nothing except the game thumbnail and the achievements are on the bottom or top left (like the ps3/ps4 for example). Nobody would use the over cluttered UI that steals your attention to use your console just that little more anymore

I think the news thing could be ok but they'd have to do the following:
1. Make it an option - default it to on, if you must, but let us turn it off.
2. After a month, it goes back to the key art - until a new (relevant) news story is published
3. It must be relevant - only news articles that pertain to the game and its content specifically should be included (e.g., patch news, dlc, updates etc)
4. Don't make the news title look like it's the name of the game
Need as many people as possible to speak out on this. Such a dumb update because what’s the point in me seeing an ad for a game from 3 yrs ago? First the new update caused FF16 to have sudden crashes and that game is legit the most bug free game to release in modern times. Now this nonsense smh

So if you start planning a Microsoft game you might get an ad for gamepads. How long until it's gate raid, laundry detergent or gamepads? You have to assume Sony's getting an ad cut, don't like this either, I prefer the box art or the like

I literally sold my PS5 2 months ago, I'm going full PC now because i am tired of Sony's Censorships, Marketing, Ads, Greed, Bloated Store with $5 Indi games that look like mobile games, always paying a Subscription to play online with friends and everything else, I owned every PlayStations mainline system and now.... Now I Hate Sony and Sony just keeps getting worse and also woke... They've lost a customer who played their games and brought all their system since i was a little kid, They lost me forever and now they are trying to Force PC players to join their eco system by Signing in with a PlayStation account for Single Player games on PC like God of War Ragnarök.
I'm Done with Sony and I'll never buy any of their products, Games, PlayStation, Mobile Phones or Camera's or even their TV's, I'm never buying another Sony product again

Console platforms need to be regulated in the EU at least in the same way as gatekeepers like Apple's iOS and iPadOS are. The fact I cannot purchase applications from other stores renders the PlayStation Store an effective monopoly.

Thanks for calling this out. This ad shit really pissed me off, especially when I was about to play Shadow of the Tomb Raider and it showed merchandise for the game rather than the damn game art.

This is one of the big reasons why I don't like the Xbox dashboard, ads everywhere. Although, even this isn't as bad as that because Xbox would have ads for movies, TV shows, and other products other than games too. Still, this is a step in the wrong direction. I hope they change it back but I don't have confidence they will.
I really just want backgrounds! Give us dynamic backgrounds, or just let us make screenshots be our background.
For Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled (a 5 year old PS4 game), they’re advertising Crash Team Rumble (an online only game that’s no longer being supported).
I wish we could get our home screen folders back. The PS4 home screen was way better. The PS5 is a cluttered mess in comparison.
The Worst Example is any of the Tomb Raider Games. It literally gets rid of any key art, and just shoves Merch in your face with a message telling you to go buy it.
Anyway the best PlayStation interface will always be the PS3 one. So clean with our own wallpaper. Second is PS4 and PS5 is by far the worst one. So generic with no customization at all for any esthetic changes.
Thanks for the confirmation, thought I was going mad, kinda annoying for games where they're no longer being updated and the news page isn't updated either so it no longer is showing game art (cyberpunk is one example that had cool art depending which part of the story you are in/choices you made etc which you don't really see anymore)
I thought and hoped Sony was better than Microsoft in this aspect. I turned my Xbox on and the first insufferable windows tile that popped up was an ad telling me to vote.
Playing MHW and the background is just a big white screen saying there will be save bonuses for Wilds. And while that’s all well and good, that’s not what I want to be seeing before starting up the game every time.

Wish the game icons were a bit larger, they absolutely can be without bumping into the other ui elements & themes working like the ps4, where the key art only takes over when you delve into the news & details of a game
One of the more stupid ones is roblox where it displays news advertising a now unplayable elf themed game from last Christmas because it's the only news for roblox
So they pretty much removed a feature in Resume Activity (that a lot of people i know used) and now you have to manually bypass menus and loading screens… cool
