    What an excellent video!
Really appreciate you showing the whole experience, it is very helpful to beginners like me.
Looked like lovely smooth waves, not contrary chop.

Thanks Denise for showing us that you can fall out too! It gives me hope. I've pretty much got ski surfing down having been a surfer all my life. But decent downwinders still elude me. Still warm here is Carlsbad CA, but winter is coming. Time to head down to Baja.

Nice that you have the surfing background. That must help! Cold in Carlsbad?? Okay, it's all relative :) Nicholas Cryder found some great downwinds in Baja. I hope you can get in some of this: ua-cam.com/video/Zppo2oZg5lA/v-deo.html

Not sure surfing helps... The timing and positioning on the wave is quite different... But at least you like waves and falling in! 😄

It's not the weed on the paddle that bothers me, its when I think there is weed on my rudder (or actually on the rudder!)

Nice video! Would have liked a bit longer sequences... Your swim looks a bit odd, clearly the wave broke behind you, caused the surfski to broach, and then flip. You could have probably gotten through if you had steered more aggressively to stay on course, but also by bracing really really hard, e.g. your full weight on the paddle and pushing yourself back up. (No, the paddle won't break!) Hey, if you don't fall in every now and then you're not learning! 😃
Overall the conditions looked pretty tough because you had that fast big stuff and almost nothing small to get you on. When it's like this I end up with all-out intervals interrupted by frustration pauses 😂
If you look at Sharon's vids, she goes a lot on the diagonal (with brief moments of going more straight down like in the clip you inserted). By going straight down, my experience is that one of two things happen: you go fast and run into the wave in front of you and stall, or you don't go fast enough and a small wave grows in front of you and you stall on that (I think this happened a lot on this day). If you go on the diagonal you can control your descent better and if the wave passes under you, you have a better chance at keeping your momentum (and finding a wave that is offset you can catch).
Anyway, I'm far from an expert, lots and lots to learn! It's always interesting to watch others' vids and wonder "hmm, what would I have tried here??"
BTW, you need to watch some of your older vids and see the progress!!! 💥

Yes to all of this. Thanks! It's all helpful. I know, the older videos are starting to make me cringe a bit, so I guess that's a good thing.
