The headlines are just click bait. I always book a hotel in Spain, rather than an Airbnb. Always felt welcome and looking forward to the 2 weeks booked in July in Sitges. Colin UK.
As a veteran of many an AirBnB, I'm done with them. Don't get me wrong, if you are 20something or even older and just on a holiday with the boys, aribnb is perfect and part of the fun. But as I get older, I just want to know that I won't be going on any wild goose chases for keys, worrying about scams, or mysterious cleanup fees, etc. Give me a hotel every time. The Ercilla in Bilbao is awesome.
In Spain we do love tourist and visitors from other countries. We are just dealing with some housing problems at the same time. But we love people from other countries.
Good on you Stu! Thank you for correcting the record! The UK newspapers and “Euro Weekly News” which is just a recycled-story online rag absolutely specialize in clickbait headlines.
I just got back from a week cruising the Canary Islands. Never once felt unwelcome. Lanzarote even had signs up all over stating “we love tourists.” I know the conflict and pushback over tourism is real. But so are the open arms from most.
Honestly, as someone who plans on moving to Spain this year I am not opposed to Spain's current efforts to prioritize Spanish citizens. I will be one in 3 years, God willing...

Only if you have citizenship in a former Spanish colony, otherwise it will be 10 years. (But you can get permanent residency after five!)
My wife gets hers in 2 years, mine the following.
