Cronenberg was also approached. Lynch ended up directing the film version of Dune instead, which heavily inspired the earliest Star Wars scripts (e.g. The Jedi became Force sensitive by eating a magic spice.)

You remind me of the guy who voiced Darth Maul in Clone Wars He also dabbled as Palpatine in the Disney show and all the video games. Sam Witwer, I think. He was in the US Being Human, too.
I might be wrong, but I believe "The Hidden Fortress" was the inspiration for Star Wars. Not Yojimbo. Both Yojimbo and The Hidden Fortress are Akira Kurosawa films though.
