Great work again on this video and do hope you get well soon. Your iceberg videos stand out quite nicely among others as they are short and straight to the point, avoiding unnecessary filler. Also really glad to see the Travelling Players getting some recognition nowadays outside of Greece, it is quite a good piece of historic narration of the life of Greeks and the internal conflicts that the people and nation had gone through in the 20th century.
Thank you! Im glad youre enjoying the videos! The Traveling Players as well as the rest of the films of Theo Angelopulos where actually recommended to me by a Greek Historian when I was Athens so I definitly do want to check out the rest of his films as well. From what Ive seen he is a truly a fantastic filmmaker.
@@antonioalexander1 Aye, his filmography, pacing and themes are quite good in showing the true depths of his work and the aspects based on historical reality. It does help in understanding the Traveling Players if you know a bit on 20th century Greek history but it is an enjoyable film nonetheless. There are a few other historical based films based on Greek events or created in Greece which I could recommend you if you would like.
@@antonioalexander1 Currently theres three movies I would recommend although I am not fully certain wether or not two have english subtitles: - Z (1969): Filmed in France due to the Greek Junta being in charge, its an anti-authoritarian and anti-Junta film describing the events of the final moments and assasination of Grigoris Lambrakis, a major political figure of the post civil war Greek left and the major conspiracy which led to it. Its soundtrack is one of the best I have heard in a movie and its pacing and filmography do both Lambrakis but the whole era and situation a great honour in properly showing the political witch hunt against the Greek left and the authoritarian ways of the Greek parastate. - Loafing and Camouflage (1984): A comedy about the life of conscripted soldiers in 1967-1968 before and during the Junta and how their lives have been impacted by it along with how their pasts have caused them to be where they are. A far more comedic film but one that resembles the autobiography of its director while he was indeed a conscript in the army. - Deep Soul (2009): A movie about the Greek Civil War sometimes characterised as the "Brother War", showing two brothers fighting against each other in the opposing Communist and Monarchist/Republican fronts. The movie also has one of the final perfomances of great Greek actor Thanasis Veggos before his death two years later. Theres more but I cant say I remember them all fully, so if anything else arises I will add to this list, but I hope these for now are good and enjoyable for you and hope maybe they do leave an impact.
I didn't see it here but I would also recommend the movie "Waltz with bashir" about a man telling the story of when he was a soldier in the first Lebanon war.
Amazing video as always Your iceberg videos are really well made, I still watch the disturbing book iceberg sometimes anywat hope you get better from the rona man
It’s stupid that it goes from somewhat unknown to literal porn, there are a lot of experimental movies like “come and see” or just lesser known like “cross of iron” that should be between.
suprised i didnt see all quiet on the western front or even nausicaä of the valley of the wind but well the manga show more of the war side than the movie version ever did.
Sorry for the shorter iceberg, next month there will be a longer one
I Whis Rambo was on the iceberg that a war movie
