This is the most effective DIY bumper tab repair I could find on UA-cam without having to buy expensive tools. I used an old, rather thick metal screen as my mesh, but your tape looks MUCH easier to use.

Thank you for creating this video. I came upon it by accident and it just happens that while I was washing my roommates Honda, I noticed that the bumper wasn’t properly attached. Upon further inspection, I saw that the tab was cracked. I am a 62 year young woman who has been doing things that I have never done before with the help of UA-cam! I am in the process of learning the fine art of using compounds, polishes and wax for color correction. This whole deal started while I was washing the 86 Honda to get the dirt off the windows. I was going to borrow it while my car was in the shop. The roof of the car was bleached white. I took a magic eraser to it and found out that wasn’t the paint that was bleached out but the peeling clear coat. Well 3 days later, I got it all off. I learn new things everyday. Maybe today you all learned something from me. If I can do it, you can too. Get comfortable reaching outside your comfort zone. ❤

I have just one criticism... sorry. Bumpers are typically made from thermoplastics such as polycarbonate, ABS, PBT, polypropylene or a combination of a couple, e.g. PC/ABS or PC/PBT alloys. A coffee cup lid is typically made from polypropylene or polystyrene. For the longest lasting bond, you should always look for the little recycle symbol printed somewhere on the inside of the bumper. It will have a number within the symbol, like a 4 or 5, and sometimes state below it the plastic... PC/PBT for instance. This is for recycling purposes, but also tells you what type of plastic your bumper is. The numbers represent a plastic, but usually if it's an alloy, it will have a number 7. I've fixed motorcycle fairings and had to order plastic alloy welding rods of exactly the same material, as this will provide the best strength, longest lasting bond. It could be that you got lucky and used a polypropylene lid on a polypropylene bumper. Good job anyway, but that is my only advice. Hope it is helpful.

Thanks for sharing the video. Your method was pretty innovative and ingenuous and addition of the meshed tape to the equation definitely helped. It stabilized the plastic piece you tried to attach to the bumper, freed your other hand and made the area you tried to fix more accessible for using the soldering iron (to tack the plastic piece you made).

I was looking on here on how to properly remove a rear bumper to paint. My 08 Civic is in almost perfect condition except the exterior paint is chipping. In addition, both rear and front bumpers were missing clips. The previous owner backed/drove into the curb and pulled them out. Had a moment of panic when I realized I didn't mark where to drill, CRAP!! So I guessed and it turned out great anyway. Doesn't look like the bumper cover was ever torn off. The way i did it was i tape it with duct tape to hold the bumper up to the body and used the silcone glue and left the tape on for three days for it to cure and filled the remaing gap after i took the tape off.used cooking oil to remove the tape glue.

3m or bondo makes a small kit for bumper repair. Worked excellent for my car. Same tab issue as you. Just has to sand it down so the top isn’t so high like you were mentioning

Thumbs up my friend! I have never had to deal with this exact situation, but I am sure I will need to repair plastic the same way in the future.

All the thumbs downs are from "Welders" who don't how to do anything but weld and think they know everything, because they know how to weld.

Congratulations for you idea and your job. You did great and your video was very professional. I have a similar problem on my 2015 Subaru where the wheel liner joint the body of the car. I will certainly use this idea.
    Again, congratulations.

some might be critical but you have given out of your time the general idea in the procedure and have made a contribution in sharing your skills that others may improvise from ! you are one of millions of fine Americans but your failure to unite and stop your government from laying waste around the globe is about to end similar to wwll .God bless you all to expect to reap what you have sown.

You can also do without welding. Adhesive glues work/ permatex sold at auto body supplies sell it or Auto Zone stores may have it too

Wow... I never thought about "welding" plastic parts on cars! The plastic surround on my driver's side mirror is cracked and opened. I had it glued together for a few years, but now it's opened back up again! I may give this a try!!! Thanks!

As long as you have the right type of plastic it bonds very well.
