Rick, Just got my remote fob programmed and worked great at first. I am encountering an issue though. The remote start only works after I manually turn the car on. For example, I double lock and hold and it doesn’t turn on. I get in the car, push the start button and fire up the. Engine. Power it off, lock the doors, then double lock and hold and it’ll work. @@RickKruger Nope, after trial and error, it seems my remote start will only work after I manually turn on the engine, and power it off. For example, I double lock, beep, and hold remote start and it doesn’t turn on. I get in the car, push the start button and fire up the engine. Power it off, lock the doors, then double lock and hold and it’ll work. It's about a 5-10 minute window from the initial time I manually start the car until it stops working again. Had the locksmith come back out to reprogram and no luck.
@@dan5979 It was $75 for the key fob which I ordered online. The company I work for has access to Honda software so I didn't pay additional to program it, lucky me 😀 I'd say $150-250 could be the range for part and service depending on dealer. Also some dealers may not program it unless you also buy the fob from them. A private locksmith is also a good idea to check with if you want to buy the fob on your own.
MrGcotallat Your lights stay off so your car does not attract attention to itself while running. You see the lights blink a second time for your verification. Runs for 10 minutes in 'stealth mode.'

I just got a 2022 Honda Accord Sport and these videos were confusing me for days before I realized that the car I got includes remote start even though it's a Sport version... because it's a hybrid. Remote start comes standard on the hybrids, at least in 2022.

Remote start works fine, but I do note the "engine immobilizer" light flashes after turning off the car and locking the doors with the remote. The fob was programmed by a locksmith, not the dealer, who was not interested in performing the procedure. Do you see the flashing LED once you lock the doors?
Yeah I bought a 2019 Accord LX 1.5T at Naperville Honda Illinois and they said they wouldn’t program a remote start cause something with the warranty and it would kill the battery, then again this was the salesman who told me this not any mechanic
Excited to see this. Just bought a CPO Accord Sport 1.5T here just outside Detoit. I’m going to be in Indiana in mid-December. Can I make an appointment in your service department and get this done? Also, is your mechanic modifying the ECM in any way, or is it just a matter or programming the new fob to the car? THANKS!
I was just about to pay 425 to get a kit installed in my car for remote start but I have a buddy that works for Honda and sometime this week I’m going to get it programmed I see your update and have a 2020 honda accord lx cvt is their any way for me to know if my car has been updated I bought it in June of 2022
Hey so I just did my 2018 Honda Accord this afternoon remote start works and all but the heat dose not come on any idea why is that is it because the temperature dose is not cold enough?
Have you tried this on a 2020 Sport 1.5T yet? Most comments are about 2018 and 2019 vehicles. The dealership said that the 2018 instruction manually clearly states that you can do this but the 2019 and 2020 do not, however as from the video that is not true for the 19s.
So to be able to remote start from your phone or Amazon Alexa, you need to have remote start ability and then sign up for hondalink. Will this trick work for that? Honda link shows only touring being able to work with remote starting from home and without being in range. Does this trick work even if not using Honda link to remote start from far away from the car? I'm sure people who live in houses or have the car in a garage next to them doesn't need to do all that but for others who live in an apartment or park on the street that would help.
Bringing it in to honda later today wouldnt they question? I bought fob online honda site.. could they somehow see if I ever had remote start enable? Or am I overthinkng it
Well if you want to add just like the video explains, you need to do it before your local Honda dealership does the latest software update! I have just been informed that this no longer works if installed after update, but does still work if done before latest software update!!
Does this mean that there is a remote Honda starter module already installed in these Accords that just do not have a key fob programmed to activate it?
The hack works cuz I got it done today. Also just an fyi that if Honda dealership doesn’t want to program the key fob any company that programs keys can do it. I paid $65 for the fob and $40 for the programming, so it was definitely worth the risk since I was told that it probably wouldn’t work by a dealership.
So the dealership doesn’t have to add anything to the car to make it start with key fob? You just need the ex key fob and have then do what i seen in the video?
This just encourages cold cylinder washing. Apparently, the advantage is that it will always try to cool or warm to 72F, turn heated seats and heated mirrors on and rear defrost, too. No ability to hack those preset auto start features, yet. I won’t turn on my heat or AC on for a mile or two.
How can you tell if you have the new update or not? I recently bought a used 2018 accord sport 1.5 and only got 1 key might as well try this if I want a second key.
To keep fobs themselves serve pretty much the same price. You could always purchase the one with the remote start for EXL ask them not to do any software update before programming it and if it works great if it doesn’t you’ll just simply have the lock and unlock portion of it.
I called my local Honda service department asking if this would void the warranty. She advised that if it caused problems with the electrical system it would since my VIN doesn't have remote start listed as a feature. I have a 2020 Accord Sport 1.5. I noticed in the comments below your parts department said it would not void the warranty since it was considered an OEM addition. Is there any way to get clarification on it? It seems like the information you see on the internet isn't consistent when it comes to the warranty. I do however appreciate your video very much. Thanks for any guidance you can offer.
Rick Kruger thanks! I had it done today and happy to say it worked. After using some Honda points from the purchase of my car, I only paid $102 for the key and programming
Yes it is the same as 2018 Accord LX or the 1.5T Sport. The part # for an EX Accord key fob is: 72147-TVA-A01 . Should cost about $109 + labor to program.
Hey Rick, Can you please ask your panel of experts (Derek) if he thinks this same trick will work on the new TLX? I'm hoping since they're both Honda, it should work...? (the a-specs don't have remote start)
How can I get this done to my car, cause the Honda dealerships around my way are idiots. They told me that I would have to get a whole new starter for my car to remote start 😒😒😒
Simply tell them you want to program a remote, don't tell them about wanting to do it for the remote. Buy the remote straight from the parts department, then tell service that you need it programmed as an extra remote.... the started just works. 👍🏽

I just contacted a Honda dealer near me and the service guy told me I can’t do it on a 2020 accord lx. I need to buy aftermarket. I’m watching this video and I’m shaking my head and they were charging me insane amount for just labor to install remote start. Any can recommend a dealer in so cal that can actually do this?
Rick Kruger that’s about 3 hrs away I’m closer to Los Angeles the inland empire. Ill call around. So I tell the service guy just program it to my car or say I want the remote start feature?
Oscar Martinez Jr You simply need to purchase the key for an EX or EXL accord that has the remote start button. The part number is in the description under the video above. They should charge you no more than 1/2 hour labor rate. So find out with the dealerships hour labor rate, and it should be half of that plus the cost of the remote itself.

Hey Rick, does this still work? I have a 2018 LX, want to be sure there has not been a new software program installed that will block this before I go in and buy the new fob.

@@RickKruger Rick, I just bought my 2018 Accord LX from a local Honda dealer. How do I find out if they did a update on the software? I don't want to purchase a key fob and pay to have it programed and it not work. Any suggestions? Thx

Rick,
Just got my remote fob programmed and worked great at first. I am encountering an issue though. The remote start only works after I manually turn the car on.
For example, I double lock and hold and it doesn’t turn on. I get in the car, push the start button and fire up the. Engine. Power it off, lock the doors, then double lock and hold and it’ll work. Has anyone heard of this or any possible attempt in fixing it?
What about just: Lock once, then good start for only 3 sec.?
@@RickKruger
Nope, after trial and error, it seems my remote start will only work after I manually turn on the engine, and power it off.
It worked for my, 2018 Accord Sport 1.5t now with remote start :)

I'd say $150-250 could be the range for part and service depending on dealer. Also some dealers may not program it unless you also buy the fob from them. A private locksmith is also a good idea to check with if you want to buy the fob on your own.
How do you keep the lights on once remote started to know it’s on??? Besides the 3 blinks would be nice.
MrGcotallat Your lights stay off so your car does not attract attention to itself while running. You see the lights blink a second time for your verification. Runs for 10 minutes in 'stealth mode.'
Just unlock the car if u want your lights on

Can you program two key pobs at the same time? Just don't want to be charge extra.
Choua xiong No, one key at a time. Up to a total of six.
Hey Rick. Does Remote start hacking affect the engine or electrical system months or years later?
No it does not. But what I believe is that the automatic climate control does not go to 72° like a car that has it standard. FYI.
Hi is the dealership the only people who can program key to do it or can a local locksmith that program keys?
It's who I would trust!!
Isn't there a remote key thats colored blue on the back? Can that one be used for a 2018 honda sport 1.5?
The BLUE is the Hybrid Accord key fob. NO.
Yes the price is for all of it.
Have you tried this on a 2020 Sport 1.5T yet? Most comments are about 2018 and 2019 vehicles. The dealership said that the 2018 instruction manually clearly states that you can do this but the 2019 and 2020 do not, however as from the video that is not true for the 19s.
DeadS1337 There are no changes from the '18, '19 to the new '20.
Ab Panda That is correct. HondaLink is only on the Touring models.
My local dealership said it can’t be done. On my 2019 accord. I called Honda motors they said the same. What can I do?

This will NOT work if your car has the latest software update done first….. just fount out.

You need to buy the EX black key fob. Part # is in description.

AtomicHotRod It appears that they do use the same wiring harness.

Just leave it on Auto. The car should go to 72degrees while running.
Christopher Bohnyak That is correct, just like you see in video.

So I have a 2018 Honda Civic lx and it doesn’t have push start is there a way to get remote start added to my key
CamTheManFishinn No sorry only on the Honda accord like it stated in the video
How much is the total cost? Including programming and the key fob? Also how much do Honda dealerships sell the key fobs for?
You will have to check for actual pricing from your local dealer. But the black part of the fob is around $70 and a 1/2 hour labor rate of the store.
This key will then allow you to open the trunk then right?
Alex Florido Darn, good question! But I believe the answer is no.
So the Accord LX wasn't selling as being equipped with remote start but it's built into the system and all it needs is that remote start remote?
It must also be programed by a Honda Tech. to the car too.
What exactly should I be asking my dealer to do and what if they do t want yo do it
