I totally get it since I think I got the same vibes before meeting my husband. I was on a city bus and felt a strong energy from a car in the next lane. I couldn't see who was driving but could only see his hand on the steering wheel. I remembered his car and the wildlife fund sticker on his back window. A couple of years later, I ended up working for the same company as him and we started dating. He had nice hands and I eventually realized he drove the same car I saw when I was on the bus that day.

"From Scratch" was definitely one of my favourite shows from the past couple of years. I cried throughout the whole series. It was such a rollercoaster of emotions but had such a hopeful, beautiful message.

Why is a black woman playing the role of a Mexican immigrant? She doesn’t look like a fieldworker. She doesn’t look Mexican at all. The only people that look like this in Mexico are Americans that are visiting Mexico. There are no Black people in Mexico.
I’m so glad Sarah brought up “From Scratch”. I’ve seen the series twice now and cried my eyes out both times. Zoe is a phenomenal actress and she captures every role she does beautifully.

The director said the film shows the gray element of the culture. They ask no questions about that.
No. He didn't say "gray matter of culture," he said gray matter of life. So yes it's the story of the immigrant and Americans are tired of hearing it, but the story isn't the classic black and white immigrant story. It talks about the gray, the in between, the part that you can't deny as humans....that everyone needs a home and will fight to keep one or find another.

I just find it odd that people are always saying that immigrants need to be humanized when every Hollywood production about unauthorized migrants idealizes unauthorized migrants. There is no shortage of these stories. We have seen them over and over and over again.

I think for the real actor artists like Zoe, living and raising a family in Italy with her husband before coming back to the state has left a cultural mark on her. For example, she learned Italian to be able to communicate to her boys in one of their mother tongues. As a mom whose boys have parents with 2 distinct culture, it's really touching that she made sure she's just as much part of her boy's 2nd culture too.
