  • WHAT IS THAT STINK?? ROTTEN FOOD? Simple TRICK to Clean and sanitize your sink garbage disposal properly. Remove food and debris that get stuck in the garbage disposal which will begin to smell, with a simple trick using ICE. Properly clean your garbage disposal so there is no food or bacteria that will grow inside which will cause a bad smell in your kitchen or home.

    Excellent garbage disposal

    Baking soda will not remove bacteria. Vinegar will not remove bateria. You need to sanitize the disposal with chlorine bleach.
    The sink garbage disposal must be cleaned regularly because food, scraps, and debris get stuck inside and will start to smell very bad.
    This technique makes use of ice to cause and abrasive cleaning action on the inside of your garbage disposal. You will combine ice, water, and soap first to remove the large food debris. Then you will use bleach to sanitize and kill germs and bacteria which grow inside the garbage disposal.

      Eric Qu There is a slow process of liquid going through the drain so it swells up into the sink and because it is crushed ice it turns the ice and water the same color as the junk in your disposal..

    Oh My GOD !!! You are the Man!!! I Can't believe just how easy that was. Step by Step, You Saved me HUNDREDS of Dollars. I've been in Construction for 30 years I've owned & renovated 4 houses of my own. When it comes to Plumbing & Electrical, I Hate those 2 Trades. Now, at almost 57, I've sustained 8 back injuries & I now have SEVERE Arthritis, so messing around under the sink is Not something I want to do. Between Fixing it, Cleaning it & Sanitizing it, this Whole 10 minute Process was "On Point." Thanks So Much !!!

    Forgot something. The bottom side of the rubber guard. Use a brush and comet cleanser. If you don't it gets a thick black goo that stinks. I use ice cubes too. But before I do I pour Borax washing soda in the drain and let it sit a few minutes. Then ice and turn on the cold water and turn on the disposal.

      You're not suppose to stick your hand down a garbage disposal!!!! Good grief!!!

    • @desreversti
      @desreversti 8 місяців тому

      You'll want to physically disconnect power to it if sticking your hand in there.
      Unplug the power (or turn off the fuse if connected), verify it is off by turning on the switch you normally would use to make sure it doesn't turn on, flip the switch to off, and then it is safe to access.
      Physically disconnecting the power helps prevent it turning on and checking the switch/button normally used is to verify that power is not active.
      You'll want to ensure that anybody else who is in the room/house/apartment is aware of the work so they don't accidentally reconnect power.

    Great video! The only thing to change would be about the bleach; other videos and articles say that can corrode the blades. Instead, for a similar effect, you can let baking soda sit in the garbage disposal for an hour then rinse it down with vinegar, then run water with the garbage disposal on for a minute.

    Great video and seems very easy to do however, I would like to point out that bleach is very corrosive and can leave pitting in metal. If one does decide to use bleach dilute it first with water 50/50 solution should be adequate. Hydrogen peroxide would be my choice as far as killing the bacteria and the key to using this is total contact with the product and more importantly is the contact time. The longer the better and doing this a couple of times is not out of the question.

    • @jacob735

      @@jhawkins4412 I generally clean mine once a month, unless I smell an odor, then I do an extra time. After doing this, they also make a disposal cleaner, it's like a pack of powder stuff. You run hot water on about the size of a pencil, turn on disposal, and drop in pack, it creates a lot of foam cleaner that comes up from both sides of the sink for a couple minutes, then you just rinse it down. I do this if I smell a bad odor. It helps it smell good too. Good luck!

    Ice.. the bet way to go. Not only does ice grind up smoothly (not causing damage to the unit) like a chicken bone, but it also is just hard enough to sharpen & clean the blades while removing debris from the sides. No need to buy those packages for $$ when ice does it just as good. Add a lemon peal if you want freshness.

Waited 5 min, flushed it with hot water...nothing. But then, the maintenance guy said to hit the reset button!!! It works! Clean disposal and no smell. I think the thing is don't use too much ice.

    Found this out today by mistake just grinding up old ice. The stuff that came out of the disposal 🤮!
    It was the source of the smell the whole time!

    I wanna know is where did you get that switch. Looks like you could hit it with a bat and not brake.

    • @ninemilliondollars
      @ninemilliondollars 5 років тому

      That switch can be bought at any home improvement store. If you have one with the typical narrow switch and it is next to another switch, for like a light over the sink, you may have to widen the box that's in the wall to make it fit. Ask the home improvement electrical specialist. Have fun!

      its a standard "decora" switch. nothing exotic at all.

      it's just a standard "new style" early 2000's paddle switch (idk wth it's called) but it's pretty common, i grew up with these

    Thanx :) my dad is always busy and my grandpa died.. I didnt know what to do. Thank you so much..
    I accidentally put a decent amount of dirt in the disposal...
    Also..how much food is acceptable or unacceptable to be putting in there...
    Just wondering..🙄🤔

      It's not so much, of how much as it is how much at one time! 🤗
      The key is to feed it in slowly, giving it time to grind up waste and send it through the plumbing, and not packing the poor thig all at once!

      @@jhawkins4412 however yours works i guess. the more powerful it is the better it is at getting rid of stuff older low end models (like this kenmore/ise badger in the video) is very rusted out so i'd say a little and if it jams or clogs(or generally complains, buzzing obnoxious clacking/breaking noises ect) than you know what it's limits are

    Ice doesn’t dull the blades?

    • @laswan5
      @laswan5 2 роки тому +1

      They actually sharpen the blades. I have a new disposal with a manual and it said that.
      It also said no coffee grounds at all.

    I have a dishwasher connected to my sink so I’ll skip the bleach. I will try using Glisen foaming disposal cleaner and Ice cubes w/ vinegar and also orange pills.

      Hi - I just moved into a house with a garbage disposal and dishwasher. I’ve never used either in my life. Can you explain why you won’t use bleach for the garbage disposal since your dishwasher is connected to the sink? I’ll appreciate that so much, I don’t want to mess up my new appliances

      @@janeenpena151 actually I have an update. I have been using a splash of bleach in the dishwasher with every wash and it’s been great. No more smell on the clean dishes and no more smell from the disposal.

    Yeah that's not much ice. It's because you and I own the same piece of shit refrigerator! Huge fridge, lots of problems... teeny tiny ice maker. The ice trick down the disposal does work great.

  • @slpip
    @slpip 5 років тому +4

    Newer garbage disposal does not jam like the old garbage disposal and the newer garbage disposal cannot stand the ice hitting inside. This ice cleaning will damage the garbage disposal chamber and cause leakage. Bad idea!

      depends on the model also with old i don't think you mean properly old entirely cast steel, you mean these late 90's/2010 era ise badgers yeah, no it'll be fine if it breaks it it was rusted out, not the ice's fault
